Abstract:Evolving air emissions regulation presents a serious compliance challenge for all oil and gas operators in the United States of America. In Appalachia, a legacy producing region, the rapid development of the Marcellus and Utica shales has led to a rapid expansion of operations across the states of Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Ohio. Driven by this unprecedented development, increased public pressure, and lawsuits, new regulatory programs are being developed at both the state and federal levels. This article discusses the evolving air regulations impacting operators in the region and how operators can implement an air emissions management system to help them stay compliant.
