This study investigated the feasibility of using fresh activated sewage sludge as inoculum for the microbial valorization of segregated municipal solid waste and evaluated the quality of organic soil amendment generated. Organic fraction of municipal solid waste, which consisted of vegetative (vegetable, fruit and flower) wastes was seeded with activated sewage sludge and processed by rapid aerobic microbial treatment. Efficacy of microbial valorization process and quality of final product were assessed by physico-chemical analysis. Suitability of final product was assessed with regard to heavy metal content, pesticide residues, microbiological quality and phytotoxicity. Quality of the soil amendment generated was compared with the control product generated with a commercial microbial inoculum. Phytotoxicity experiments indicated the stimulatory effect of sewage sludge seeded soil amendment on plant growth but inhibition was observed in closed growth test due to the evolution of gaseous phytotoxic agents. The study suggests that segregated municipal solid waste can be effectively valorized with activated non-dewatered sewage sludge as inoculum and the quality of soil amendment generated was comparable to compost intended for unrestricted applications.  相似文献

Pig manure rice straw compost was extracted using different extraction methods, and the composition of each extraction was identified by chromatogram and spectroscopy in order to investigate plant growth promoting factors. Compared with direct extraction, aerated and non-aerated fermentation extractions were better for nutrient accumulation, especially for high molecular weight substances. Cucumber yields of aerated fermentation extraction of compost (AFEC) treatment were 16.5 and 57.6?% higher than the direct extraction of compost (DEC) and non-aerated fermentation extraction of compost (NAFEC) treatments. Humic acid-like and fulvic acid-like substances were the main components in all extracts. Furthermore, AFEC showed the most humification and aromatization. Humic substances extracted from AFEC (H-AFEC) increased shoot dry weight by 2.8 and 7.4?%, compared to humic substances extracted from DEC (H-DEC) and humic substances extracted from NAFEC (H-NAFEC). In conclusion, AFEC was the best extraction method to get more humic substances to stimulate plant growth.  相似文献

More and more sewage sludge is being produced in China. Safe and economical methods for sewage sludge disposal should be found considering the increase in sewage treatment. In order to verify the feasibility of sludge disposal on newly built highway embankments, five treatments (0, 15, 30, 60 and 120 tons ha−1) of sewage sludge compost (SSC) were added to a silty-clay embankment soil on the Xi-Huang highway. The results showed that amendment with SSC increased soil available N, available P, organic matter, cation exchange capacity, and water content, and decreased soil bulk density. Application of SSC enhanced ryegrass growth and reduced runoff and soil erosion. Heavy metal losses from sediments in runoff remained constant or decreased relative to the control until a rate of 60 tons ha−1 was exceeded, when heavy metal losses appeared to increase.  相似文献

The effect of co-compost application from sewage sludge and pruning waste, on quality and quantity of soil organic carbon (SOC) in four Mediterranean agricultural soils (South Spain), was studied in soil microcosm conditions. Control soil samples (no co-compost addition) and soils treated with co-composts to a rate equivalent of 140 Mg ha?1 were incubated for 90 days at two temperatures: 5 and 35 °C. The significances of incubation temperature and the addition of co-compost, on the evolution of the different fractions of SOC, were studied using a 23 factorial design. The co-compost amendment increased the amounts of humic fractions: humic acids (HA) (1.9 times), fulvic acids (FA) (3.3 times), humin (1.5 times), as well as the free organic matter (1.4 times) and free lipids (21.8 times). Incubation of the soils enhanced its biological activity mainly in the amended soils and at 35 °C, leading to progressive SOC mineralization and humification, concomitant to the preferential accumulation of HA. The incubation results show large differences depending on temperature and soil types. This fact allows us to select suitable organic amendment for the soil when a rapid increase in nutrients through mineralization is preferred, or in cases intending the stabilization and preservation of the SOC through a process of humification. In soils with HA of more than 5 E4/E6 ratio, the incubation temperature increased rates of mineralization and humification, whereas lower temperatures limited the extent of both processes. In these soils the addition of co-compost in spring or summer is the most recommendable. In soils with HA of lower E4/E6 ratio (<5), the higher temperature favoured mineralization but not humification, whereas the low temperature maintained the SOC levels and even increased the HA/FA ratio. In these soils the moment of addition of organic amendment should be decided depending on the effect intended. On the other hand, the lower the SOC content in the original soil, the greater are the changes observed in the SOC after amendment with co-compost. The results suggest that proper recommendations for optimum organic matter evolution after soil amendment is possible after considering a small set of characteristics of soil and the corresponding soil organic matter fractions, in particular HA.  相似文献

This study investigates the characteristic of heavy metals (Pb, Zn, Cu, Cd, Cr, Ni and As) in biochar derived from sewage sludge at different pyrolysis temperatures (300, 400, 500, 600 and 700 °C). The heavy metal concentrations, chemical speciation distribution, leaching toxicity, and bio-available contents were investigated using ICP-OES after microwave digestion, a sequential extraction procedure recommended by the Community Bureau of Reference (BCR), an improved nitric acid–sulphuric acid method, and diethylenetriamine pentaacetic acid (DTPA) extraction method, respectively. The results showed that a great percentage of the heavy metals remained in biochar, the concentrations of heavy metals in biochar (except Cd in B7) were higher than that in sludge, and the enrichment of the heavy metals in biochar enhanced with the pyrolysis temperature. Although the effect of pyrolysis temperature on the chemical speciation distribution, the leaching toxicity and the bio-available contents of heavy metals in biochar was inconsistent, the potential risk of biochar on soil and groundwater contamination was lower than sewage sludge.  相似文献

Environmental problems associated with sewage sludge disposal have prompted strict legislative actions over the past few years. At the same time, the upgrading and expansion of wastewater treatment plants have greatly increased the volume of sludge generated. The major limitation of land application of sewage sludge compost is the potential for high heavy metal content in relation to the metal content of the original sludge. Composting of sewage sludge with natural zeolite (clinoptilolite) can enhance its quality and suitability for agricultural use. However, the dewatered anaerobically stabilized primary sewage sludge (DASPSS) contained a low concentration of humic substances (almost 2%), and the addition of the waste paper was necessary in order to produce a good soil conditioner with high concentrations of humics. The final results showed that the compost produced from DASPSS and 40-50% w/w of waste paper was a good soil fertilizer. Finally, in order to estimate the metal leachability of the final compost product, the generalized acid neutralization Capacity (GANC) procedure was used, and it was found that by increasing the leachate pH, the heavy metal concentration decreased. The application of the sequential chemical extraction indicated that metals were bound to the residual fraction characterized as a stabilize fractions.  相似文献

The application of organic materials to replenish soil organic matter and improve soil structure and fertility has become a common agronomic practice. This research deals with the effects of soil amendment with winery and distillery waste composts on organic carbon (C) mineralisation in two arable soils. A sandy-loam and clay-loam soil were treated and incubated with a number organic materials obtained from the co-composting of different proportions of grape stalk, grape marc, exhausted grape marc and vinasse, with sewage sludge or animal manure. Moreover, the effect of compost stability on C mineralisation dynamics was studied by applying organic materials from different stages of the composting process. The results obtained showed that the addition of exogenous organic matter stimulated microbial growth, enhanced soil respiration and increased water-extractable C contents in both soils, particularly in the days immediately following amendment. The initial composition of the different organic materials used, especially for the mature samples, and the texture of the receiving soil did not influence significantly the C mineralisation final values, with around 11–20% of the added organic C being mineralised over the first 140 days. However, the contribution of organic amendment to the labile organic C pool, maximum rates of soil respiration, as well as the extent of initial disturbance of the soil microbiota were all found to be related to the degree of organic matter stability. Moreover, irrespective of the type and stability of the organic amendment, the mineralogical composition of the receiving soil was found to significantly influence its resilience in such systems.  相似文献

The suitability of using cement-stabilized sludge products as artificial soils in earth works was evaluated. The sludge products investigated were cemented sludge, cement-treated clay-amended sludge (SS+MC), and cement-treated copper slag-amended sludge (SS+CS). The leachability of lead (Pb), zinc (Zn), copper (Cu), and chromium (Cr) were assessed using the sequential extraction technique, toxicity characteristic leaching procedure (TCLP), NEN 7341 availability test, and column leaching test. The results indicated that Zn leachability was reduced in all the cement-stabilized sludge products. In contrast, Cu was transferred from the organic fraction to the readily leachable phases in the cement-stabilized sludge products and therefore exhibited increased leachability. The increased Cu leachability could be attributed to dissolution of humic substances in the sludge as a result of elevated pH. Good correlation between dissolved organic carbon (DOC) and heavy metal leaching from the cement-stabilized sludge products was observed in the column leaching experiment. Even with a cement percentage as small as 12.5%, calcium silicate hydrate (C-S-H) was formed in the SS+MC and SS+CS products. Inclusion of the marine clay in the SS+MC products could reduce the leaching potentials of Zn, and this was the great advantage of the marine clay over the copper slag for sludge amendment.  相似文献

Resource recovery treatment of waste sludge using a solubilizing reagent   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
The dewatering of waste sludge continues to be a major problem in wastewater treatment. In this study, the solubilization treatment of waste sludge and extracellular polymeric substances using a solubilizing reagent was examined experimentally. For this purpose, a compression test of thickened waste sludge obtained after solubilization treatment was carried out. The total solid content of the dewatered cake was over 30% when using hydrochloric acid or acetic acid as the solubilizing reagent; however, it was about 20% when using sodium hydroxide. The thickened waste sludge was effectively solubilized when the concentration of acetic acid in the sludge, assuming that it was diluted by free water and not bound water in the sludge, was greater than 0.3 kmol/m3. A flocculated sedimentation test using the supernatant water after solubilization treatment was also carried out, revealing that it functions in a similar manner to commercial flocculant in aggregating solid particles under gravity. This result indicates that the supernatant water can act as a bioflocculant. Methane fermentation of the supernatant water was subsequently carried out. The findings showed that by using acetic acid as a solubilizing reagent, solubilized organic substances in the supernatant water could be recovered as a bioenergy resource.  相似文献

Composting is a good method for recycling surplus manure and stabilizing organic matter from biowastes. Compost is used as a soil amendment and recently, for restoration of vegetation in barren areas. We investigated the relationship between the type of woody biomass (using Robinia pseudoacacia, Japanese larch and apple) and the humification index (HI) of the resulting compost. This study evaluated the difference in HI between the three compost types, and the structural features of composts and extracted humic acids (HAs). The HIs for R. pseudoacacia and apple were larger than that for Japanese larch after composting for 11 months. The structural features of the Japanese larch compost were also different from the apple and R. pseudoacacia, with a very high carbon/nitrogen ratio. The average molecular weights and ultraviolet–visible spectra (A600/C) of HAs extracted from composting samples at 0 and 11 months indicate that the humification rate of Japanese larch was slower than that of R. pseudoacacia and apple. During composting, the average molecular weights of apple and R. pseudoacacia decreased, while their A600/C values increased, but the reverse was observed for Japanese larch. The humification rate was found to depend on the type of woody biomass being composted.  相似文献

The concentration of hardly biodegradable humic substances in sludge would relatively increase after anaerobic digestion due to the degradation of other organic substances. Thus, extracting humic substances from digested sludge as a liquid organic fertilizer was tested using alkaline treatment and ultrafiltration, and the dewaterability of the residual sludge was also tested. The results showed that the contents of humic acids and fulvic acids in digested sludge were 16.4 mg/g total solids and 88.9 mg/g total solids, respectively, and most of the humic acids had a molecular weight higher than 50 kDa. Hence, the membrane with a molecular weight cut-off of 50 kDa was used for humic acids recovery from the centrifugation supernatant after alkaline sludge disintegration with an optimum NaOH dose of 0.1 mol/L. Under these conditions, the total concentration of humic acids and fulvic acids was 4239 mg/L in the retention solution, which can be further concentrated and processed for liquid fertilizer. The total recovery rate of sludge humic acids and fulvic acids was about 25 %. The dewatering performance of the residual sludge was better than that of the untreated sludge when the residual sludge was diluted to a water content of 95–98 % and then conditioned with polyacrylamide at a dose of 10–30 mg/L.  相似文献

The investigation was carried out in a 2 year experiment to evaluate the benefits and hazards of the use of composted sewage sludge as a restoration agent for the soil of the nursery forest intended for growing Pinus sylvestris seedlings. The grey forest soil (Haplic Greyzem) was amended with compost at the 25, 50, 75, 100, 150 and 175 t ha(-1) application rates on a dry matter basis. The organic matter content increased with the increase in sludge amendment as well as the metal content. However, the concentrations of individual metals were below the current limits established for Russia and European countries. Sludge amendments enhanced the germination and decreased the mortality of the seedlings. The effects were more obvious for the soil with the highest sludge treatment. The beneficial effects on the biomass of seedlings and the height of the shoots as well as on the length of the roots of the pine seedlings were greater in plots with the highest rates of composted sludge. The application of composted sludge to soil was followed by an increase in microbial biomass and to a lesser extent in basal respiration. In the absence of any detrimental effect on microorganisms, this study lends support to using composted sewage sludge as the organo-mineral fertilizer for the soil of nursery forest.  相似文献

The effects of amendment with municipal solid waste compost (MSWC) and anaerobically digested sewage sludge (SS) on the compositional and structural features of soil humic acids (HAs) were investigated. For this purpose, HAs were isolated from MSWC, SS, and two different Portuguese soils, a sandy Haplic Podzol and a clay loam Calcic Vertisol, which were either unamended or amended with MSWC or SS at a rate of 60tha(-1). The isolated HAs were analyzed for elemental and acidic functional group composition, and by ultraviolet/visible, Fourier transform infrared (FT IR), and fluorescence spectroscopies. The application of MSWC and especially SS to soils determined an increase of C, N, H, and S contents and E(4)/E(6) ratios (i.e., ratios of absorbances at 465 and 665nm), and a decrease of O, COOH, and phenolic OH contents and C/N, C/H, and O/C ratios of soil HAs. The FT IR and fluorescence results showed that the organic amendments, especially SS, caused an increase of the aliphatic character and a decrease of the degrees of aromatic polycondensation, polymerization, and humification of amended soil HAs. Both MSWC and SS affected more markedly the clayey soil HAs than the sandy soil HAs, possibly due to less extended mineralization processes and the protective action of clay minerals on amended soil HAs.  相似文献

The present study evaluated the possibility of using the dewatered municipal sludge for non-agricultural purposes. The sludge was amended with soil and was applied at 0, 165, 330, 495 and 660 t/ha to promote the growth of Canna. The results showed that the Canna growth pattern exhibited a pronounced positive growth response in the range of 165–495 t/ha, and the Canna could not survive at an amendment rate of 660 t/ha. The analysis of chlorophyll fluorescence parameters showed that sludge did no harm to Canna, while under the conditions of barren soil alone, the plants were put into nutrients stress conditions. Due to the application of sludge, the concentration of heavy metals (Cu, Zn, Cr, Cd, Pb and Ni) in soil increased. However, by planting of Canna, contents of Cd, Ni and Zn showed trends of decline; Cd and Ni have shown a significant decline in concentration, while Zn had only limit response. As a result, dewatered sludge might be used to amend the barren soil and Canna could be used for phytoremediation of sludge.  相似文献

The production of solid organic waste (SOW) such as sewage sludge (SS) or municipal solid waste (MSW) has been continuously increasing in Europe since the beginning of the 1990'. Today, the European Union encourages the stabilization of these wastes using biologic processes such as anaerobic digestion and/or composting to produce bio-energy and organic fertilizers. However, the design and management of such biologic processes require knowledge about the quantity and quality of the organic matter (OM) contained in the SOW. The current methods to characterize SOW are tedious, time-consuming and often insufficiently informative. In this paper, we assess the potential of solid-phase fluorescence (SPF) spectroscopy to quickly provide a relevant characterization of SOW. First, we tested well known model compounds (tryptophan, bovine serum albumin, lignin and humic acid) and biologic matrix (Escherichia coli) in three dimensional solid-phase fluorescence (3D-SPF) spectroscopy. We recorded fluorescence spectra from proteinaceous samples but we could not record the fluorescence emitted by lignin and humic acid powders. For SOW samples, fluorescence spectra were successfully recorded for MSW and most of its sub-components (foods, cardboard) but impossible for SS, sludge compost (SC) and ligno-cellulosic wastes. Based on visual observations and additional assays, we concluded that the presence of highly light-absorptive chemical structures in such dark-colored samples was responsible for this limitation. For such samples, i.e. lignin, humic acid, SS, SC and ligno-cellulosic wastes, we show that laser induced fluorescence (LIF) spectroscopy enables the acquisition of 2D fluorescence spectra.  相似文献

The application of biosolids such as sewage sludge is a concern, because of the potential release of toxic metals after decomposition of the organic matter. The effect of application of sewage sludge (Sw) and compost (C) to the soil (S) on the Cu and Cd sorption, distribution and the quality of the dissolved organic matter (DOM) in the soil, was investigated under controlled conditions. Visible spectrophotometry, infrared spectroscopy, sorption isotherms (simple and competitive sorption systems), and sequential extraction methods were used. The E4/E6 (lambda at 465 and 665 nm) ratio and the infrared spectra (IR) of DOM showed an aromatic behaviour in compost-soil (C-S); in contrast sewage sludge-soil (Sw-S) showed an aliphatic behaviour. Application of either Sw or C increased the Cu sorption capacity of soil. The Cd sorption decreased only in soil with a competitive metal system. The availability of Cu was low due to its occurrence in the acid soluble fraction (F3). The Cu concentration varied in accordance with the amounts of Cu added. The highest Cd concentration was found in the exchangeable fraction (F2). The Sw and C applications did not increase the Cd availability in the soil.  相似文献

Polyetheramide(PEtA) resin was synthesized by the condensation polymerization of N,N-bis(2-hydroxy ethyl) linseed oil fatty amide diol (HELA) with resorcinol. It was further treated with different percentage of toluylene 2-4-diisocyanate (TDI) to obtain the urethane modified polyetheramide resins (UPEtA). The structural elucidation of PEtA and urethane modified polyetheramide(UPEtA) were carried out by FT-IR, 1H-NMR and 13C-NMR spectroscopic techniques. These analyses confirm the formation of PEtA and UPEtA. Physico-chemical and physico-mechanical analysis were performed by standard laboratory methods. The resin composition UPEtA-24 showed best physico-mechanical properties with scratch hardness 2.0 kg, impact resistance 150 lb/in. and good bending ability. The thermal stability and curing behavior of polymers were respectively studied by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Thermal analysis shows that these coatings can be used safely upto 190 °C. The coatings of UPEtA resins were prepared on mild steel strips. The anticorrosive behavior of UPEtA coatings were investigated in acid, alkali, water and xylene. All the coatings exhibit good chemical resistance performance in acid, alkali, saline and organic solvents, while the resin UPEtA-24 shows the best performance.  相似文献

In this study, we have developed urethane modified polyesteramide (UPEA) resin by the condensation polymerization reaction of N,N-bis (2-hydroxy ethyl) jatropha oil fatty amide (HEJA) and itaconic acid to form polyesteramide (PEA). The latter was further reacted with different percentages (16–22%) of toluylene 2,4-diisocyanate (TDI) to prepare UPEA. The structural elucidation of HEJA, PEA, UPEA was carried out by FT-IR, 1H-NMR and 13C-NMR spectroscopic techniques. The coating was made on mild steel strips. The physico-chemical and physico-mechanical analyses were carried out by standard laboratory methods. The thermal stability of polymer was studied by thermogravimetric analysis. Thermal analyses shows that these coatings can be used safely up to 230 °C. The corrosion protective behavior of UPEA coatings was investigated in acid, alkali, water and xylene. All the coatings exhibited good chemical resistance performance in acid, alkali, saline and organic solvents, while the resin UPEA 20 showed the best performance.  相似文献

Polymers formed from peroxidase-based free-radical polymerization reactions were characterized for rates of mineralization against lignin and humic acid controls. Degradation studies were carried out in soil systems over 202 days and cumulative net CO2 was determined. Whereas mineralization of the humic acid and alkali lignin controls totaled ca. 20% at the end of the test exposure, there was essentially no net mineralization of the hydrolytic lignin control. Mineralization of the test samples totaled 5% for poly(p-ethylphenol) and 11% for poly(m-cresol). At the same time, mineralization of the poly(p-phenyl phenol) totaled 64%. Conversely, the readily biodegradable polymers cellulose and PHB reached values of 91 to 97% in less than 60 days. Our data suggest that the mineralization kinetics of the enzymatically derived polyaromatics mimic those of the naturally occurring heteropolymers.  相似文献

Modification of soil humic matter after 4 years of compost application   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
Two soil plots, 1 ha each, were amended yearly for 4 years, respectively, with 35.8 and 71.6 Mg ha(-1) yr(-1) of mature compost (CM) obtained from food and vegetable residues. The compost, amended soils, and a control soil plot after 4 years (S4), were analyzed for humin (HUC), humic acid (HAC), fulvic acid (FAC), and non-humic carbon (NHC) content. Compared to S4, the amended soil contained more humified C (HAC, FAC and HUC) and less NHC. Further evidence of the effect of compost on soil organic matter was obtained by the analysis of the humic acid (HA) fractions isolated from both the compost and the soils. These were characterized by elemental analyses and Diffuse Reflectance Infrared Fourier Transformed spectroscopy. The HAs isolated from CM and from S4 were significantly different. The HAs isolated from the amended plots were more similar to HA isolated from CM than to HA isolated from S4. The experimental data of this work indicate that the compost application may affect significantly the soil organic matter composition, and that the approach used in this work allows one to trace the fate of compost organic matter in soil.  相似文献
