In this study, the most dominant regional transport pathways for the city of Thessaloniki, Greece were identified and linked to air quality issues with respect to particulate matter (PM). Using air mass trajectories, cluster analysis techniques and PM10 measurements of a background-urban station of the greater Thessaloniki area during 2001–2004, it was found that north-eastern and southern flows were the most frequent in appearance with high potential to influence the city of Thessaloniki, especially when coinciding with biomass burning or Saharan dust events correspondingly. These incidents appeared to occur mostly during summer adding to a PM10 monthly mean up to 10 μg m?3. High concentrations of surface PM10 related to north-eastern flows were in most cases accompanied with high aerosol columnar optical depths implying that particulate matter transport from the North-East was multi-layered. South-southwesterly flows originating from N. Africa, though less frequent, seemed to affect decisively Thessaloniki's aerosol budget especially during transition seasons. These flows were related with an increase of the monthly PM10 average up to 20–30 μg m?3 for the time period studied. Finally, northerly flows were found to transport rather clean air masses that did not seem to contribute to the air quality deterioration of the city.  相似文献

A series of source tests were conducted to characterize emissions of particulate matter (PM), carbon monoxide (CO), carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4), and total hydrocarbon (THC ) from five types of portable combustion devices. Tested combustion devices included a kerosene lamp, an oil lamp, a kerosene space heater, a portable gas range, and four unscented candles. All tests were conducted either in a well-mixed chamber or a well-mixed room, which enables us to determine emission rates and emission factors using a single-compartment mass balance model. Particle mass concentrations and number concentrations were measured using a nephelometric particle monitor and an eight-channel optical particle counter, respectively. Real-time CO concentrations were measured with an electrochemical sensor CO monitor. CO2, CH4, and THC were measured using a GC-FID technique. The results indicate that all particles emitted during steady burning in each of the tested devices were smaller than 1.0 μm in diameter with the vast majority in the range between 0.1 and 0.3 μm. The PM mass emission rates and emission factors for the tested devices ranged from 5.6±0.1 to 142.3±40.8 mg h−1 and from 0.35±0.06 to 9.04±4.0 mg g−1, respectively. The CO emission rates and emission factors ranged from 4.7±3.0 to 226.7±100 mg h−1 and from 0.25±0.12 to 1.56±0.7 mg g−1, respectively. The CO2 emission rates and emission factors ranged from 5500±700 to 210,000±90,000 mg h−1 and from 387±45 to 1689±640 mg g−1, respectively. The contributions of CH4 and THC to emission inventories are expected to be insignificant due both to the small emission factors and to the relatively small quantity of fuel consumed by these portable devices. An exposure scenario analysis indicates that every-day use of the kerosene lamp in a village house can generate fine PM exposures easily exceeding the US promulgated NAAQS for PM2.5.  相似文献

Uptake, accumulation and translocation of caffeine by Scirpus validus grown in hydroponic condition were investigated. The plants were cultivated in Hoagland’s nutrient solution spiked with caffeine at concentrations of 0.5–2.0 mg L?1. The effect of photodegradation on caffeine elimination was determined in dark controls and proved to be negligible. Removal of caffeine in mesocosms without plants showed however that biodegradation could account for about 15–19% of the caffeine lost from solutions after 3 and 7 d. Plant uptake played a significant role in caffeine elimination. Caffeine was detected in both roots and shoots of S. validus. Root concentrations of caffeine were 0.1–6.1 μg g?1, while the concentrations for shoots were 6.4–13.7 μg g?1. A significant (p < 0.05) positive correlation between the concentration in the root and the initial concentrations in the nutrient solution was observed. The bioaccumulation factors (BAFs) of caffeine for roots ranged from 0.2 to 3.1, while BAFs for shoots ranged from 3.2 to 16.9. Translocation from roots to shoots was the major pathway of shoot accumulation. The fraction of caffeine in the roots as a percentage of the total caffeine mass in solution was limited to 0.2–4.4% throughout the whole experiment, while shoot uptake percentage ranged from 12% to 25% for caffeine at the initial concentration of 2.0 mg L?1 to 50–62% for caffeine at the initial concentration of 0.5 mg L?1. However, a marked decrease in the concentration of caffeine in the shoots between d-14 and d-21 suggests that caffeine may have been catabolized in the plant tissues subsequent to plant uptake and translocation.  相似文献

Natural mineral dust storms (DS) from the Arabo-African region blow over the Mediterranean, reach Israel, and add to the anthropogenic particulate pollution. The effects of mineral dust on air quality in Israel were investigated using only PM10 and PM2.5 automatic measurements. The method does not require any other inputs such as satellite observations, model back-trajectories, dust forecast models, or mineralogical analyses. The method employs an automatic algorithm with three thresholds: the half-hour PM10 average must be above 100, this level is maintained for at least 3 h, and the maximum concentration recorded is above 180 μg m?3. The algorithm was designed for Israel, but can be adapted for other locations. The contribution of DS caused PM10 values to exceed the Israeli annual standard of 60 μg m?3 year?1 in 6 of the 12 years examined. The DS contribution to PM10 annual average ranged from 9.4% to 29.5%. The level recommended by WHO, 20 μg m?3 year?1, was exceeded every year even without the DS contribution. The number of days in which the daily Israeli standard (150 μg m?3) was exceeded during the 12 years was 6–20 days per year. The number of days in which the daily standard was exceeded shows an increasing trend of 7 days per decade.PM2.5 in Israel is in the range 40–56% of PM10. PM2.5 values were over the recommended standard with and without DS. The contribution of DS to annual average of PM2.5 ranged from 3.6% to 19.1%.The automatic algorithm was calibrated with a list of Dust Storms identified by visual means supported by mineralogical analysis. Mineralogical analyses of single particles were performed using Environmental Scanning Electron Microscope (ESEM). Two representative samples are given. The main difference is that the particles of the Saudi-Arabian storm had much more palygorskite, while the North-African storm had more sea-salt and organic particles. The mineral composition differences indicate that analysis can differentiate between sources.  相似文献

Recent research interest has been focused on road dust resuspension as one of the major sources of atmospheric particulate matter in an urban environment. Given the dearth of studies on the variability of the PM10 fraction of road deposited sediments, our understanding of the main factors controlling this pollutant is incomplete. In the present study a new sampling methodology was devised and applied to collect PM10 deposited mass from 1 m2 of road pavement. PM10 road dust fraction was sampled directly from active traffic lanes at 23 sampling sites during a campaign in Barcelona (Spain) in June 2007. The aim of the study was to gain more insight into the variability of mass and chemistry of road dust in different urban environments, such as the city centre, ring roads, and locations nearby demolition/construction sites. The city centre showed values of PM10 road dust within a range of 3–23 mg m?2, whereas levels reached 24–80 mg m?2 in locations affected by transport of uncovered heavy trucks. The largest dust loads were measured in the proximity of demolition/construction sites and the harbor entry with values up to 328 mg m?2.The city centre road dust profiles (%) were enriched in OC, EC, Fe, S, Cu, Zn, Mn, Cr, Sb, Sn, Mo, Zr, Hf, Ge, Ba, Pb, Bi, SO42?, NO3?, Cl? and NH4+, but several crustal components such as Ca, Ti, Na, and Mg were also considerably concentrated. Locations affected by construction and demolition activities had high levels of crustal components such as Ca, Li, Sc, Sr, Rb and also As whereas ring roads, characterized by a higher load of uncovered heavy trucks showed an intermediate composition.Levels of PM10 components per area were also evaluated to quantify the resuspendable amount of each element from 1 m2. In the inner city environment mean values of 1363 μg Ca m?2, 816 μg OC m?2, 239 μg EC m?2, 13 μg Cu m?2, 12 μg Zn m?2, 1.9 μg Sb m?2 and 2.0 μg Pb m?2, in PM10 in all cases, were registered. Moreover the deposited PM load at demolition/construction sites acts as a reservoir or trap for traffic-related particles, which gives rise to large amounts of hazardous pollutants, available for resuspension.  相似文献

Several types of fuels, including coal, fuel wood, and biogas, are commonly used for cooking and heating in Chinese rural households, resulting in indoor air pollution and causing severe health impacts. In this paper, we report a study monitoring multiple pollutants including PM10, PM2.5, CO, CO2, and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from fuel combustion at households in Guizhou province of China. The results showed that most pollutants exhibited large variability for different type of fuels except for CO2. Among these fuels, wood combustion caused the most serious indoor air pollution, with the highest concentrations of particulate matters (218~417 μg m?3 for PM10 and 201~304 μg m?3 for PM2.5), and higher concentrations of CO (10.8 ± 0.8 mg m?3) and TVOC (about 466.7 ± 337.9 μg m?3). Coal combustion also resulted in higher concentrations of particulate matters (220~250 μg m?3 for PM10 and 170~200 μg m?3 for PM2.5), but different levels for CO (respectively 14.5 ± 3.7 mg m?3 for combustion in brick stove and 5.5 ± 0.7 mg m?3 for combustion in metal stove) and TVOC (170 mg m?3 for combustion in brick stove and 700 mg m?3 for combustion in metal stove). Biogas was the cleanest fuel, which brought about the similar levels of various pollutants with the indoor case of non-combustion, and worth being promoted in more areas. Analysis of the chemical profiles of PM2.5 indicated that OC and EC were dominant components for all fuels, with the proportions of 30~48%. A high fraction of SO42? (31~34%) was detected for coal combustion. The cumulative percentages of these chemical species were within the range of 0.7~1.3, which was acceptable for the assessment of mass balance.  相似文献

Emission factors (EFs) of pollutants from post-harvest agricultural burning are required for predicting downwind impacts of smoke and inventorying emissions. EFs of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH), methoxyphenols (MP), levoglucosan (LG), elemental carbon (EC) and organic carbon (OC) from wheat and Kentucky bluegrass (KBG) stubble burning were quantified in a US EPA test burn facility. The PAH and MP EFs for combined solid+gas phases are 17±8.2 mg kg−1 and 79±36 mg kg−1, respectively, for wheat and 21±15 mg kg−1 and 35±24 mg kg−1, respectively, for KBG. LG, particulate EC and artifact-corrected OC EFs are 150±130 mg kg−1, 0.35±0.16 g kg−1 and 1.9±1.1 g kg−1, respectively, for wheat and 350±510 mg kg−1, 0.63±0.056 g kg−1 and 6.9±0.85 g kg−1, respectively, for KBG. Positive artifacts associated with OC sampling were evaluated and remedied with a two-filter system. EC and OC accounted for almost two-thirds of PM2.5 mass, while LG accounted for just under 3% of the PM2.5 mass. Since EFs of these pollutants generally decreased with increasing combustion efficiency (CE), identifying and implementing methods of increasing the CEs of burns would help reduce their emissions from agricultural field burning. PAH, OC and EC EFs are comparable to other similar studies reported in literature. MP EFs appear dependent on the stubble type and are lower than the EFs for hard and softwoods reported in literature, possibly due to the lower lignin content in wheat and KBG.  相似文献

Field measurements and data investigations were conducted for developing an emission factor database for inventories of atmospheric pollutants from Chinese coal-fired power plants. Gaseous pollutants and particulate matter (PM) of different size fractions were measured using a gas analyzer and an electric low-pressure impactor (ELPI), respectively, for ten units in eight coal-fired power plants across the country. Combining results of field tests and literature surveys, emission factors with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were calculated by boiler type, fuel quality, and emission control devices using bootstrap and Monte Carlo simulations. The emission factor of uncontrolled SO2 from pulverized combustion (PC) boilers burning bituminous or anthracite coal was estimated to be 18.0S kg t?1 (i.e., 18.0 × the percentage sulfur content of coal, S) with a 95% CI of 17.2S–18.5S. NOX emission factors for pulverized-coal boilers ranged from 4.0 to 11.2 kg t?1, with uncertainties of 14–45% for different unit types. The emission factors of uncontrolled PM2.5, PM10, and total PM emitted by PC boilers were estimated to be 0.4A (where A is the percentage ash content of coal), 1.5A and 6.9A kg t?1, respectively, with 95% CIs of 0.3A–0.5A, 1.1A–1.9A and 5.8A–7.9A. The analogous PM values for emissions with electrostatic precipitator (ESP) controls were 0.032A (95% CI: 0.021A–0.046A), 0.065A (0.039A–0.092A) and 0.094A (0.0656A–0.132A) kg t?1, and 0.0147A (0.0092–0.0225A), 0.0210A (0.0129A–0.0317A), and 0.0231A (0.0142A–0.0348A) for those with both ESP and wet flue-gas desulfurization (wet-FGD). SO2 and NOX emission factors for Chinese power plants were smaller than those of U.S. EPA AP-42 database, due mainly to lower heating values of coals in China. PM emission factors for units with ESP, however, were generally larger than AP-42 values, because of poorer removal efficiencies of Chinese dust collectors. For units with advanced emission control technologies, more field measurements are needed to reduce emission factor uncertainties.  相似文献

Significant accumulation of heavy metals in soils and flora exists around the abandoned Barbadalhos Pb mine in Central Portugal. Soil and plant samples [49 species] were collected from two line transects, LT 1 and LT 2, in the mineralized and non-mineralized area, respectively to gain a comprehensive picture of heavy metals in soils and flora to assess its potential for phytoremediation. Phytosociological inventories of the vegetation were made using the Braun-Blanquet cover-abundance scale. Metal concentrations in soil ranged from (in mg kg?1): 98–9330 [Pb], 110–517 [Zn], 7.1–50 [Co], 69–123 [Cr], 31–193 [Cu], 33 400–98 500 [Fe], 7.7–51 [Ni], 0.95–13 [Ag], 2.8–208 [As], and 71–2220 [Mn] along LT 1; and 24–93 [Pb], 30–162 [Zn], 3.7–34 [Co], 61–196 [Cr], 21–46 [Cu], 24 100–59 400 [Fe], 17–87 [Ni], 0.71–1.9 [Ag], 4.3–12 [As], and 44–1800 [Mn] along LT 2. Plant metal content ranged from (in mg kg?1): 1.11–548 [Pb], 7.06–1020 [Zn], 0.08–2.09 [Co], 0.09–2.03 [Cr], 2.63–38.5 [Cu], 10.4–4450 [Fe], 0.38–8.9 [Ni], and 0.03–1.9 [Ag] along LT 1; and 0.94–11.58 [Pb], 2.83–96.5 [Zn], 0.12–1.44 [Co], 0.21–1.49 [Cr], 1.61–22.7 [Cu], 4.6–2050 [Fe], 0.51–4.81 [Ni], and 0.02–0.31 [Ag] along LT 2. Plants with highest uptake of metals were: Cistus salvifolius (548 mg Pb kg?1), Digitalis purpurea (1017 mg Zn kg?1 and 4450 mg Fe kg?1). Mentha suavolens and Ruscus ulmifolius were seen to hyperaccumulate Ag (1.9 and 1 mg Ag kg?1, respectively). More metals and higher concentrations were traced in plants from LT 1, especially for Pb and Zn.  相似文献

A receptor modeling study was carried out in Kuopio, Finland, between January and April 1994. Near the center of town, the daily mean concentrations were measured for PM10, sulphur dioxide, carbon monoxide and Black Smoke. Elemental concentrations of PM10 samples for 38 days were analyzed by ICP-MS. The main sources and their contributions to the measured concentrations of PM10 particles were solved by receptor modeling using a factor analysis-multiple linear regression (FA-MLR) model. Because a dust episode was very strong during two sampling days, the FA analysis was strongly influenced by this episode and did not give main factors. The factor analysis, when the two episode days were omitted, gave credible factors related to the sources in the study area. The four major sources and their estimated contributions to the average PM10 concentration of 27.2 μg m-3 were: soil and street dust 46–48%, heavy fuel oil burning 12–18%, traffic exhaust 10–14%, wood burning ca. 11% and unidentified sources 15–25%. However, during spring dust episode days, with maximum PM10 concentration of 150 μg m-3, the main source of PM10 was soil.  相似文献

Polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE) concentrations in sediment and fish from 12 principal rivers in Taiwan were investigated to determine their association with water quality parameters as well as the biota-sediment accumulation factor (BSAF) in fish with different living patterns. The highest PBDE concentration in sediment was found in the Bajhang River (261 ng g?1 dry weight (d.w.)) and the lowest in the Beinan River and the Da-an River (0.17 ng g?1 d.w.). The PBDE concentrations in fish samples ranged from 1.28 ng g?1 d.w. (Oreochromis niloticus niloticus) in the Yanshuei River to 33.7 ng g?1 d.w. (Varico rhinos barbatulus) in the Da-an River. We conclude that PBDEs contamination in sediment was significantly affected by NH3–N, pH, and DO. The BSAF results showed a parabolic trend from low- to high-brominated BDEs. Fish easily accumulated the congeners BDE-47, -100, -119, -126, and -154 from sediment. The BSAF decreased in the following order: PeBDE > HxBDE > TeBDE > other BDEs. Principle component analysis showed that demersal fish have different PBDE sources than do pelagic fish. We conclude that living and feeding habits are critical factors affecting PBDE accumulation in fish.  相似文献

The long-range transported smokes emitted by biomass burning had a strong impact on the PM2.5 mass concentrations in Helsinki over the 12 days period in April and May 2006. To characterize aerosols during this period, the real-time measurements were done for PM2.5, PM2.5–10, common ions and black carbon. Moreover, the 24-h PM1 filter samples were analysed for organic and elemental carbon (OC and EC), water-soluble organic carbon (WSOC), ions and levoglucosan. The Finnish emergency and air quality modelling system SILAM was used for the forecast of the PM2.5 concentration generated by biomass burning. According to the real-time PM2.5 data, the investigated period was divided into four types of PM situations: episode 1 (EPI-1; 25–29 April), episode 2 (EPI-2; 1–5 May), episode 3 (EPI-3; 5–6 May) and a reference period (REF; 24 March–24 April). EPI-3 included a local warehouse fire and therefore it is discussed separately. The PM1 mass concentrations of biomass burning tracers—levoglucosan, potassium and oxalate—increased during the two long-range transport episodes (EPI-1 and EPI-2). The most substantial difference between the episodes was exhibited by the sulphate concentration, which was 4.9 (±1.4) μg m−3 in EPI-2 but only 2.4 (±0.31) μg m−3 in EPI-1 being close to that of REF (1.8±0.54 μg m−3). The concentration of particulate organic matter in PM1 was clearly higher during EPI-1 (11±3.3 μg m−3) and EPI-2 (9.7±4.0 μg m−3) than REF (1.3±0.45 μg m−3). The long-range transported smoke had only a minor impact on the WSOC-to-OC ratio. According to the model simulations, MODIS detected the fires that caused the first set of concentration peaks (EPI-1) and the local warehouse fire (EPI-3), but missed the second one (EPI-2) probably due to dense frontal clouds.  相似文献

Soil eco-toxicity testing was conducted in support of Canada’s Chemical Management Plan (CMP) to fill data gaps for organic chemicals known to primarily partition to soil, and of which the persistence and inherent toxicity are uncertain. Two compounds representative of specific classes of chemicals: non-chlorinated bisphenols containing an –OH group (4,4′-methylenebis(2,6-di-tert-butylphenol (Binox)) and xanthene dyes (2′,4′,5′,7′-tetrabromo-4,5,6,7-tetrachloro-3′,6′-dihydroxy-, disodium salt (Phloxine B), 2′,4′,5’,7′-tetrabromofluorescein (TBF), 4′,5′-dibromofluorescein (DBF), and 4,5,6,7-tetrachlorofluorescein (TCF)) were evaluated. The effect of these substances on plant growth (Elymus lanceolatus and Trifolium pratense) and soil invertebrate survival and reproduction (Folsomia candida and Eisenia andrei) were assessed using a field-collected sandy soil. Binox was persistent throughout testing (up to 63 d) with an average recovery of 77 ± 2.9% at test end. Binox was not toxic to plants (IC50s > 1076 mg kg?1) or E. andrei (IC50s > 2651 mg kg?1); however, a significant reduction in F. candida adult survival and reproduction (IC50 = 89 (44–149) mg kg?1) was evident. Phloxine B was also persistent throughout testing, with an average recovery of 82 ± 3.0% at test end. Phloxine B was significantly more toxic than Binox, with significant reductions in plant root growth (IC50s ? 11 mg kg?1) and invertebrate reproduction (IC50s ? 22 mg kg?1). DBF toxicity was not significantly different from that of Phloxine B for plant root growth (IC50s ? 30 mg kg?1), but was significantly less toxic for shoot growth (IC50s ? 1758 mg kg?1), and invertebrate adult survival (IC50s ? 2291 mg kg?1) and reproduction (IC50s ? 451 mg kg?1). A comparison between all four xanthene dyes was completed using F. candida, with the degree of toxicity in the order of Phloxine B ? TBF  DBF > TCF. The results from these studies will contribute to data gaps for poorly understood chemicals (and chemical groupings) under review for environmental risk assessments, and will aid in the validation of model predictions used to characterize the fate and effects of these substances in soil environments.  相似文献

The correlations among arsenic (As) accumulation in grains and straw, rates of radial oxygen loss (ROL), and porosity of roots using 25 rice cultivars were investigated based on two pot experiments: (1) soil with addition of 100 mg As kg?1 for analysis of As in grains and straw, and (2) deoxygenated solution for analyzing rates of ROL and porosity of roots. The results showed that there were great differences in grain As (0.71–1.72 mg kg?1) and straw As (15.6–31.7 mg kg?1), rates of ROL (7.40–13.24 mmol O2 kg?1 root d.w. h?1), and porosity (20.91–33.08%) among the cultivars. There were significant negative correlations between As in grains or straw and ROL and porosity, and significant positive correlations between rates of ROL and porosities, respectively. Rice cultivars with high porosities tended to possess higher rates of ROL, and had higher capacities for limiting the transfer of As to aboveground tissues.  相似文献

Real-world emissions of a traffic fleet on a transit route in Austria were determined in the Tauerntunnel experiment in October 1997. The total number of vehicles and the average speed was nearly the same on both measuring days (465 vehicles 30 min−1 and 76 km h−1 on the workday, 477 and 78 km h−1 on Sunday). The average workday fleet contained 17.6% heavy-duty vehicles (HDV) and the average Sunday fleet 2.8% HDV resulting in up to four times higher emission rates per vehicle per km on the workday than on Sunday for most of the regulated components (CO2, CO, NOx, SO2, and particulate matter-PM10). Emission rates of NMVOC accounted for 200 mg vehicle−1 km−1 on both days. The relative contributions of light-duty vehicles (LDV) and HDV to the total emissions indicated that aldehydes, BTEX (benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, xylenes), and alkanes are mainly produced by LDV, while HDV dominated emissions of CO, NOx, SO2, and PM10. Emissions of NOx caused by HDV were 16,100 mg vehicle−1 km−1 (as NO2). Produced by LDV they were much lower at 360 mg vehicle−1 km−1. Comparing the emission rates to the results that were obtained by the 1988 experiment at the same place significant changes in the emission levels of hydrocarbons and CO, which accounted 1997 to only 10% of the levels in 1988, were noticed. However, the decrease of PM has been modest leading to values of 80 and 60% of the levels in 1988 on the workday and on Sunday, respectively. Emission rates of NOx determined on the workday in 1997 were 3130 mg vehicle−1 km−1 and even higher than in 1988 (2630 mg vehicle−1 km−1), presumable due to the increase of the HD-traffic.  相似文献

Glycol ethers are a class of semi-volatile substances used as solvents in a variety of consumer products like cleaning agents, paints, cosmetics as well as chemical intermediates. We determined 11 metabolites of ethylene and propylene glycol ethers in 44 urine samples of German residents (background level study) and in urine samples of individuals after exposure to glycol ethers during cleaning activities (exposure study). In the study on the background exposure, methoxyacetic acid and phenoxyacetic acid (PhAA) could be detected in each urine sample with median (95th percentile) values of 0.11 mg L?1 (0.30 mg L?1) and 0.80 mg L?1 (23.6 mg L?1), respectively. The other metabolites were found in a limited number of samples or in none.In the exposure study, 5–8 rooms were cleaned with a cleaner containing ethylene glycol monobutyl ether (EGBE), propylene glycol monobutyl ether (PGBE), or ethylene glycol monopropyl ether (EGPE). During cleaning the mean levels in the indoor air were 7.5 mg m?3 (EGBE), 3.0 mg m?3 (PGBE), and 3.3 mg m?3 (EGPE), respectively. The related metabolite levels analysed in the urine of the residents of the rooms at the day of cleaning were 2.4 mg L?1 for butoxyacetic acid, 0.06 mg L?1 for 2-butoxypropionic acid, and 2.3 mg L?1 for n-propoxyacetic acid.Overall, our study indicates that the exposure of the population to glycol ethers is generally low, with the exception of PhAA. Moreover, the results of the cleaning scenarios demonstrate that the use of indoor cleaning agents containing glycol ethers can lead to a detectable internal exposure of residents.  相似文献

Ecotoxicological laboratory tests (lower-tier tests) are fundamental tools for assessing the toxicity of pesticides to soil organisms. In this study, using these tests under tropical conditions, we quantified the impact of the insecticides imidacloprid, fipronil, and thiametoxam, and the fungicides captan and carboxin + thiram, all of which are used in the chemical treatment of crop seeds, on the survival, reproduction, and behavior of Eisenia andrei (Oligochaeta). With the exception of imidacloprid, none of the pesticides tested caused mortality in E. andrei in artificial soils. The LC50 of imidacloprid was estimated as 25.53 mg active ingredient kg?1 of dry soil. Earthworm reproduction rates were reduced by imidacloprid (EC50 = 4.07 mg kg?1), fipronil (EC20 = 23.16 mg kg?1), carboxin + thiram (EC50 = 56.38 mg kg?1), captan (EC50 = 334.84 mg kg?1), and thiametoxam (EC50 = 791.99 mg kg?1). Avoidance behavior was observed in the presence of imidacloprid (AC50 = 0.11 mg kg?1), captan (AC50 = 33.54 mg kg?1), carboxin + thiram (AC50 = 60.32 mg kg?1), and thiametoxam (AC50 = >20 mg kg?1). Earthworms showed a preference for soils with the insecticide fipronil. Imidacloprid was the most toxic of the substances tested for E. andrei. The avoidance test was the most sensitive test for most pesticides studied, but results varied between pesticides. These results offer new insights on the toxicity of pesticides used to treat seeds in tropical regions. However, they should be complemented with higher-tier tests in order to reduce the uncertainties in risk assessment.  相似文献

Daily and seasonal variations in dry and wet atmospheric nitrogen fluxes have been studied during four campaigns between 2004 and 2006 at a coastal site of the Southern North Sea at De Haan (Belgium) located at coordinates of 51.1723° N and 3.0369° E. Concentrations of inorganic N-compounds were determined in the gaseous phase, size-segregated aerosol (coarse, medium, and fine), and rainwater samples. Dissolved organic nitrogen (DON) was quantified in rainwater. The daily variations in N-fluxes of compounds were evaluated with air-mass backward trajectories, classified into the main air-masses arriving at the sampling site (i.e., continental, North Sea, and Atlantic/UK/Channel).The three, non-episodic campaigns showed broadly consistent fluxes, but during the late summer campaign exceptionally high episodic N-deposition was observed. The average dry and wet fluxes for non-episodic campaigns amounted to 2.6 and 4.0 mg N m?2 d?1, respectively, whereas during the episodic late summer period these fluxes were as high as 5.2 and 6.2 mg N m?2 d?1, respectively.Non-episodic seasons/campaigns experienced average aerosol fluxes of 0.9–1.4 mg N m?2 d?1. Generally, the contribution of aerosol NH4+ was more significant in the medium and fine particulate fractions than that of aerosol NO3?, whereas the latter contributed more in the coarse fraction, especially in continental air-masses. During the dry mid-summer campaign, the DON contributed considerably (~15%) to the total N-budget.Exceptionally high episodic aerosol-N inputs have been observed for the late summer campaign, with especially high deposition rates of 3.6 and 2.9 mg N m?2 d?1 for Atlantic/UK/Channel and North Sea-continental (mixed) air-masses, respectively. During this pollution episode, the flux of NH4+ was dominating in each aerosol fraction/air-mass, except for coarse continental aerosols. High deposition of gaseous-N was also observed in this campaign with an average total N-flux of 2–2.5-times higher than in other campaigns.  相似文献

The size-fractionated particulate mercury in ambient air was collected at the top of a university campus building in Shanghai from March 2002 to September 2003. Wet digestion followed by cold vapor atom adsorption spectroscopy (CVAAS) was employed to analyze total particulate mercury concentration. Two-step extraction was performed to differentiate volatile particle-phase mercury (VPM), reactive particle-phase mercury (RPM) and inert particle-phase mercury (IPM). The average concentrations of mercury in PM1.6, PM8 and total suspended particle (TSP) were 0.058–0.252, 0.148–0.398 and 0.233–0.529 ng m−3, respectively. About 50%–60% of mercury in PM8 was in PM1.6, and about 60%–70% of mercury in TSP was in PM8. Particulate mercury was mainly concentrated on fine particles. The mercury fraction in fine particulate matters (<1.6 μm) was over 4 μg g−1 while 1–2 μg g−1 in TSP. Both were much higher than background values, suggesting that anthropogenic sources are the predominant emission contributors. Seasonal variation indicated that the mercury in TSP in spring was higher than that in summer; however, the mercury in fine particles (<1.6 μm) varied little. The fact that fine particulate mercury (<1.6 μm) was well correlated with sulfate and elemental carbon, but not with fluoride, chloride, nitrate and organic carbon, demonstrates that fine particulate mercury is closely associated with stationary sources and gas–particle transformation. Speciation analysis of mercury showed that VPM fraction decreased with the decrease of particle size, while IPM fraction increased and occupied over 50% in particle <1.6 μm. The detailed species in VPM, RPM and IPM were discussed. Coal burning was estimated to contribute approximately 80% of total atmospheric mercury.  相似文献

Indoor and outdoor carbonyl concentrations were measured simultaneously in 12 urban dwellings in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Xi’an, China in summer (from July to September in 2004) and winter (from December 2004 to February 2005). Formaldehyde was the most abundant indoor carbonyls species, while formaldehyde, acetaldehyde and acetone were found to be the most abundant outdoor carbonyls species. The average formaldehyde concentrations in summer indoor air varied widely between cities, ranging from a low of 19.3 μg m−3 in Xi’an to a high of 92.8 μg m−3 in Beijing. The results showed that the dwellings with tobacco smoke, incense burning or poor ventilation had significantly higher indoor concentrations of certain carbonyls. It was noticed that although one half of the dwellings in this study installed with low emission building materials or furniture, the carbonyls levels were still significantly high. It was also noted that in winter both the indoor and outdoor acetone concentrations in two dwellings in Guangzhou were significantly high, which were mainly caused by the usage of acetone as industrial solvent in many paint manufacturing and other industries located around Guangzhou and relatively longer lifetime of acetone for removal by photolysis and OH reaction than other carbonyls species. The indoor carbonyls levels in Chinese dwellings were higher than that in dwellings in the other countries. The levels of indoor and ambient carbonyls showed great seasonal differences. Six carbonyls species were carried out the estimation of indoor source strengths. Formaldehyde had the largest indoor source strength, with an average of 5.25 mg h−1 in summer and 1.98 mg h−1 in winter, respectively. However, propionaldehyde, crotonaldehyde and benzaldehyde had the weakest indoor sources.  相似文献
