The influence of temperature on the PCDD and PCDF isomer profiles of a municipal waste incinerator flyash and the PCDD/PCDF desorbed from the ash under an inert atmosphere was investigated using a bench-scale reactor. Exposure to temperatures of 250 degrees C and above resulted in significant changes in the distribution of isomers within most dioxin and furan congener groups. The PCDD content tended to become more evenly distributed across the range of isomers than was the case for the raw flyash, while the PCDF content became concentrated across a relatively lower number of isomers. In most cases the desorbed PCDD/PCDF were mainly mono- to tri-chlorinated, and hence had a relatively low I-TEQ value. The isomer profiles of the desorbed species were also influenced by temperature. There were some significant differences between the PCDF isomer profiles of the desorbed species and those of the treated flyashes under the same conditions, but no clear differences between the PCDD isomer profiles.  相似文献

Isomer composition of polychlorinated naphthalenes (PCNs) was measured for municipal waste incinerator fly ash samples and for emission samples produced from soot and copper-deposit experiments conducted at the United States Environmental Protection Agency (US-EPA). Two types of PCN isomer patterns were identified. One pattern contained specific PCN isomers in which chlorine atoms are substituted as if the peri(alpha-) position were dechlorinated from the higher chlorinated PCNs one by one. In another pattern, the isomers had a tendency for the chlorine atoms to assume successive positions on the naphthalene ring, which may be caused by specifically oriented chlorination. Some of these isomers increased, together with several polychlorinated dibenzofuran (PCDF) and a few polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxin (PCDD) isomers. The ratios between some specific PCN, PCDF, and PCDD isomers measured for the fly ash samples agree with those obtained from the soot and copper-deposit experiments. The observations suggest that these isomers were formed possibly from de novo synthesis utilizing the carbon structure contained in soot under the catalytic effect of a copper compound. Typical isomers for PCNs and PCDFs produced from incineration emissions were identified.  相似文献

Analysis of polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins (PCDD) and polychlorinated dibenzofurans (PCDF) has been performed using gas chromatography mass spectrometry (GC-MS). Analysis of the most toxic isomers, in particular, 2,3,7,8-substituted PCDD/PCDF in the presence of other isomers requires a special isomer specific capillary column or high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) fractionation prior to GC-MS analysis. Commercially available long (>50 m) polar columns can separate 2,3,7,8-TCDD from other tetra isomers. However, those columns are not satisfactory for the analyses of total PCDD/PCDF in the environmental samples. Gas chromatography -high resolution mass spectrometry (GC-HRMS) and GC-MS/MS techniques are not helpful in the analysis of 2,3,7,8-TCDD unless it is separated from the other tetra isomers. The analysis of 2,3,7,8-TCDD and total PCDD and PCDF in a single GC-MS run can ease the laborious techniques presently used. In this study we have developed a new stationary phase for the GC capillary column. The capillary column developed using this new stationary phase showed unsurpassed selectivity for the separation of 2,3,7,8-TCDD from other tetra isomers. There are several advantages of the newly developed GC capillary column.  相似文献

α-HCH, β-HCH, and γ-HCH (lindane) were listed as persistent organic pollutants in the Stockholm Convention. Therefore, they need to be globally addressed including the wastes remaining from historic use and production. While at most lindane production sites the unintentionally produced 85 % HCH waste isomers have been deposited, at a former pesticide factory in Hamburg-Moorfleet HCH waste isomers have been recycled from 1953 to 1984 by thermal decomposition to chlorobenzenes and resulted in high polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxin/polychlorinated dibenzofuran (PCDD/PCDF)-contaminated residues. The management of the PCDD/PCDF-contaminated waste from the former pesticide factory in Hamburg has been assessed and quantified. Based on past accredited PCDD/PCDF measurements, the registered 3,700 tonnes of disposed thermal HCH decomposition residue contained 333 to 854 kg of PCDD/PCDF toxicity equivalent (I-TEQ) in 53–102 tonnes total sum of PCDD/PCDF. The wastes have been deposited together with other wastes in landfills in Hamburg and other parts of Germany. For the Georgswerder landfill (Hamburg), where approximately 50 % of the PCDD/PCDF is disposed, current and previous situation and remediation activities are described. While PCDD/PCDF leaching from the landfill is controlled and incinerated, more water soluble organochlorines (vinyl chloride, cis-1,2-dichlorethene, chlorobenzenes) and benzene remain as a challenge for groundwater management. A comprehensive aftercare program has been established and will need to be operated by future generations including renewal of containment systems. Former lindane/HCH productions need—in addition to HCH deposits—to be assessed for possible recycling practice of HCH and related PCDD/PCDF-containing deposits. This could systematically be addressed within the Stockholm Convention implementation.  相似文献

The effect of reaction time on formation of polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins (PCDD) and dibenzofurans (PCDF) was studied under laboratory conditions in the system containing municipal waste incineration fly ash, activated carbon and copper chloride dihydrate at 300 degrees C in 99.999% N2 and N2 + 10% O2 atmosphere. The concentrations of tetra- to octa-chlorinated isomers as well as I-TEQ concentrations of toxic congeners are reported. The mechanism of PCDD and PCDF formation from chlorophenols and chlorinated biphenyls is discussed in the light of the time changes of PCDD/PCDF ratios.  相似文献

The applicability of three different Silphenylene Silicone co-polymer (Si-Arylene) GC stationary phases (J&W Scientific DB-5ms, Varian VF-5ms, and VF-Xms) has been evaluated for the separation of all 136 tetra- through the octa- chlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins (PCDD) and chlorinated dibenzofurans (PCDF) from closely eluting isomers using gas chromatography/high resolution mass spectrometry (GC/HRMS). Their relative performance data are compared to the “conventional” 5% diphenyl 95% dimethylpolysiloxane GC column (Supelco Equity-5) and to each other based on absolute retention times, visualized mass chromatograms, and the separation of 2,3,7,8-substituted isomers. VF-Xms GC column was able to demonstrate a better performance towards separation of 2,3,7,8-substituted PCDD/PCDF compared to other Si-Arylene GC columns tested, where only 2,3,4,7,8-PnCDF can not be resolved from 1,2,3,6,9-PnCDF and 2,3,4,6,7,8-/1,2,3,6,8,9-HxCDF and 1,2,3,7,8,9-/1,2,3,4,8,9-HxCDF can be at least partially resolved. These data suggest that the development of a single GC column for the separation of all 17 2,3,7,8-substituted dioxins and furans is feasible, which therefore could be used as a standard tool for the PCDD/PCDF methods globally including USEPA methods 1613b, 8290A, 8280B, European Standard Method EN 1948, Canadian methods DFPCB-E3418, EPS 1/RM/19, Japanese methods JIS K0311 and JIS K0312. Having one specific GC column to separate all 2,3,7,8-substituted PCDD/PCDF will significantly improve the data quality, comparability by the various methods and assessment techniques while simultaneously leading to a more cost and time efficient operation.  相似文献

Laboratory bleaching experiments were performed to investigate PCDD/PCDF formation mechanisms. The results indicated that there were two (or more) mechanisms; direct chlorination of DBD/DBF and formation from precursors which are not extractable. In general, PCDDs/PCDFs are formed in the C stage but some minor isomers were found to be formed in the E stage.  相似文献

PCDD/F reduction in incinerator flue gas by adding urea to RDF feedstock   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
The effect of urea on PCDD/F formation in a pilot incinerator was studied by incinerating urea with refuse-derived fuel (RDF) at three concentrations (0.1%, 0.5% and 1.0%, of the fuel feed). A distinct reduction in both PCDD/F and chlorophenol concentrations could be noticed when urea was introduced into the system. Partial-least-square (PLS) analysis of the data showed the importance of certain chlorophenol isomers as PCDD/F precursors, pointing to the possibility that the impact point of the urea inhibitor could be before the precursor molecules, i.e. chlorophenols, have been formed.  相似文献

The pyrolysis of chlorinated phenates at a temperature of about 280 degrees C results in the formation of definite chlorinated dibenzodioxin (PCDD) congeners [1-3]. It is shown that in gas phase reactions chlorophenols react in the presence of oxygen above 340 degrees C not only to PCDD but also to chlorinated dibenzofurans (PCDF). The mechanism of this reaction of chlorophenols to PCDD and PCDF was elucidated. In a first step phenoxyradicals are formed which are capable of forming PCDDs and PCDFs. This is confirmed by the oxygen dependency of the reaction. In an argon atmosphere no dimerization of chlorophenols could be observed at 420 degrees C. By the identification of intermediates and by analyzing the PCDF isomers formed from individual chlorophenols the reaction pathway is elucidated. As intermediates in the formation of PCDFs polychlorinated dihydroxybiphenyls (DOHB) were identified. These are most likely formed by the dimerization of two phenoxy radicals at the hydrogen substituted carbons in ortho-positions under simultaneous movement of the hydrogen atoms to the phenolic oxygen PCDDs are formed in the gas phase via ortho-phenoxyphenols (POP) analogous to the pyrolysis of phenates, but due to the radical mechanism in the first condensation step to POPs not only a chlorine atom is capable for substitution but also the hydrogen atoms. The formation of the DOHBs and their condensation to PCDFs and hydroxylated PCDFs as well as the ratio of PCDD to PCDF formed show a strong dependency on the reaction temperature, the substitution pattern of the chlorophenols and the oxygen concentration.  相似文献

Different 2,3,7,8-substituted polychlorinated dibenzodioxins (PCDDs) and dibenzofurans (PCDFs) were investigated for their retention behaviour on a disposable minicolumn containing activated carbon AX-21. Elution behaviour and recovery were examined, using native and radiolabelled PCDD and PCDF isomers.

A comparison of the total mass chromatograms of PCDDs and PCDFs in an extract from animal adipose tissue, before and after activated carbon treatment, demonstrates the efficiency of this cleanup step with respect to the elimination of interfering compounds.  相似文献

Thirteen samples of human adipose tissue from cancer patients in Japan were analyzed for tetra- to octa- chlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins (PCDDs) and dibenzofurans (PCDFs). These compounds were identified in all the samples analyzed. All isomers identified have a pattern of chlorine substitution in 2, 3, 7 and 8 positions with the only exception of 1,2,3,4,6,7,9-hepta-CDD. In the case of PCDFs, the relatively higher persistency was found in the isomers with chlorine atoms at 4- (or 6-) position as compared with 1- (or 9-) position. Total PCDD concentrations were in the range of 160 to 1400 pg/g on wet weight basis, in which increasing levels were found from tetra- to octa-CDD. Total PCDF concentrations were in the range of 7 to 120 pg/g and the levels of individual congeners are rather uniform.  相似文献

In this paper results of various measurement campaigns at different municipal waste incineration (MWI) plants concerning the change of the PCDD/PCDF isomer distribution in the crude gas during transiently impaired combustion conditions are presented. The focus is on the Cl4DD isomer distributions exemplarily for all other homologue groups to demonstrate the change in PCDD/PCDF formation mechanism at transient combustion conditions. Additionally to crude gas samples, at one plant filter and boiler ash were investigated simultaneously to determine if there is any difference in the isomer distribution between the matrices. For the ash from an electrostatic precipitator (ESP ash), the boiler ash and the corresponding crude gas sample, nearly identical changes in the Cl4DD isomer distribution under transient combustion conditions in relation to the normal operation process could be detected. By comparing the Cl4DD isomer distributions from different incineration plants (two municipal waste incinerators and one little incinerator burning wood chips for heating domestic household) under transient combustion conditions, in all cases the 1,3,6,8- and 1,3,7,9-Cl4DD were dominating the isomer distribution, whereas under normal operation other isomers were predominant. Obviously PCDD/PCDF formation mechanisms under transient combustion conditions are independent from the type of incinerator and of the burned fuel, respectively. Data sets were analyzed with respect to the possible reaction mechanism via chlorophenols and a good correlation of 2,4,6-trichlorophenol during the second phase of a start-up process and during a CO experiment was found. To get more detailed information about possible formation mechanisms, at one plant the dependence of the PCDD/PCDF isomer distribution on the different matrices was studied. Separate analysis of fly ash collected at the boiler exit, subsequent gas phase, ESP ash and boiler ash under normal operation conditions showed that, apart from the fly ash, the Cl4DD isomer distributions are nearly the same in the different matrices. Surprisingly, the Cl4DD isomer distribution of the fly ash was more similar to the distributions found under transient combustion conditions.  相似文献

Polychlorinated dibenzothiophenes (PCDTs) in sediment, soil, and fly ash samples collected in Japan were analyzed and their dioxin-like endocrine-disruption potential and photodegradability investigated. PCDTs were detected in all three types of sample, although the concentrations were lower than those of polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins (PCDDs) and polychlorinated dibenzofurans (PCDFs). An Ah-immunoassay confirmed that 2,3,7,8-TeCDT, 1,2,3,7,8-PeCDT, 1,2,3,7,8,9-HxCDT, and 1,2,3,4,7,8,9-HpCDT had Ah receptor-binding activities, which means that these PCDTs have the potential to cause dioxin-like endocrine-disruption. Photodegradation of PCDTs by UV irradiation was accompanied by dechlorination. The photodegradation rates of 2,3,7,8-TeCDT and OCDT were lower than the rates for the corresponding PCDF isomers (2,3,7,8-TeCDF and OCDF), which indicates that PCDTs are more stable than PCDFs to photodegradation.  相似文献

The retention and mobility of hydrophobic organic contaminants (HOCs) in soil is mainly determined by hydrophobic partitioning to dissolved and particulate organic matter (DOM and POM, respectively). The aqueous phase, DOM, and POM fractions were extracted and separated from soils at three sites contaminated with technical chlorophenol formulations. Concentrations of chlorophenols (CP), polychlorinated phenoxyphenols (PCPP), polychlorinated diphenyl ethers (PCDE) and polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and furans (PCDD/F) were determined. The partitioning to POM, in relation to DOM, increased in all three soils with increasing hydrophobicity in the order CP < PCPP ~ PCDE ~ PCDF < PCDD. Differences in partitioning to DOM (logK(DOC)) and POM (logK(POC)) could not be explained by differences in gross organic C chemistry. Black carbon did not contribute significantly to the sorption of PCDDs, whereas >70% wood fibre in one soil resulted in a decrease of logK(POC) of 0.5 units for CPs and PCDDs. We conclude that logK(OC) for both DOM and POM need to be explicitly determined when the retention and mobility of HOCs is described and modelled in soils.  相似文献

α-Hexachlorocyclohexane (HCH), β-HCH, and γ-HCH (lindane) were recently included as new persistent organic pollutants (POPs) in the Stockholm Convention. Therefore, the chemicals need to be globally addressed, including the disposal of historic wastes. At most sites, the approximately 85 % of HCH waste isomers were dumped. At a former lindane factory in Hamburg and some other factories the HCH, waste was recycled producing residues with high polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxin and dibenzofuran (PCDD/PCDF) levels. The soil and ground water under the former pesticide factory was/is highly contaminated with HCH (260 tons), chlorobenzenes (550 tons), and PCDD/PCDF (6 kg toxic equivalents (TEQ)). This contamination did not result from disposal operations but from spillages and leakages during the 30 years of the factory's production history. A containment wall has been constructed around the production area to prevent the dispersal of the pollutants. The ground water is managed by a pump and treat system. Over the last 15 years, approximately 10–30 tons of this pollution reservoir has been pumped and incinerated. For the contaminated production buildings, specific assessment and demolition technologies have been applied. In addition to their HCH waste isomer deposition, former lindane/HCH productions need to be assessed for possible recycling practice of HCH and related PCDD/PCDF contamination of the production area and buildings. Since such recycling activities have taken place at several factories in different countries, the experience of assessment and management of the described production area and contaminated buildings could be valuable. Such assessment could be addressed within the frame of the Stockholm Convention.  相似文献

Chlorophenols are an important class of persistent environmental contaminants and have been implicated in a range of adverse health effects, including cancer. They are readily conjugated and excreted as the corresponding glucuronides and sulfates in the urine of humans and other species. Here we report the synthesis and characterization of a series of ten chlorophenol sulfates by sulfation of the corresponding chlorophenols with 2,2,2-trichloroethyl (TCE) chlorosulfate using N,N-dimethylaminopyridine (DMAP) as base. Deprotection of the chlorophenol diesters with zinc powder/ammonium formate yielded the respective chlorophenol sulfate ammonium salts in good yield. The molecular structure of three TCE-protected chlorophenol sulfate diesters and one chlorophenol sulfate monoester were confirmed by X-ray crystal structure analysis. The chlorophenol sulfates were stable for several months if stored at −20 °C and, thus, are useful for future toxicological, environmental and human biomonitoring studies.  相似文献

Transformation of all 19 chlorophenol (CP) isomers was investigated in a laboratory anaerobic methanogenic sludge that had not been exposed to synthetic chemicals. Concentration of CP was analyzed over time to calculate disappearance rate constants using first-order reaction kinetics and all possible CP degradation pathways were estimated. The rate constants ranged between 0.46 x 10(-3) and 0.161 day(-1). CPs were transformed via dechlorination. The chlorine atom at the ortho-position was the most easily dechlorinated, whereas dechlorination rate at the para-position was lowest. The overall pathways of CP transformation were much less diverse than that we previously found for contaminated sediment. The Dolfing hypothesis of microbial selection of the most thermodynamically favorable pathways was not applicable for CP transformation in this study as well as previous study performed by our group.  相似文献

Flyash samples were collected from the electrostatic precipitators of seven municipal refuse incinerators of four different countries. Analytical results of PCDD and PCDF in these samples shows a very similar iosmer distribution pattern for all PCDD/PCDF although concentrations of PCDD and PCDF vary. These results imply that PCDD/PCDF were formed through the same mechanism in those incinerators regardless of garbage composition or incinerator design.  相似文献

The concentrations, compositional profiles, and possible sources of polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and polychlorinated dibenzofurans (PCDD/PCDF) in water column and surface sediment samples from the lower reaches of the Yangtze River were investigated, and the potential risks posed by these chemicals were evaluated. Concentrations of the 17 2,3,7,8-substituted PCDD/PCDF in the water and sediment samples ranged from 0.45 to 10.0 pg TEQ/L (mean 2.34 pg TEQ/L) and from 0.31 to 51 pg TEQ/g dw (mean 5.25 pg TEQ/g dw), respectively. Water and sediments from the Nanjing–Nantong sections of the Yangtze River were found to have elevated PCDD/PCDF levels, and the PCDD/PCDF TEQ concentrations in 13 sediment samples exceeded the probable effect levels (PEL), above which adverse biological effects are likely. Multivariate statistical analysis indicated that the principal PCDD/PCDF contamination source for the water and sediment was the production and use of pentachlorophenol (PCP) or sodium pentachlorophenate (PCP-Na). PCDD/PCDF concentrations were stable over time near the Yangtze River Estuary but had increased sharply in recent decades in the Nanjing–Nantong section, which will have been related to the growth in industrial activities and other anthropogenic PCDD/PCDF sources. Total organic carbon (TOC) and PCDD/PCDF concentrations correlated significantly (R?=?0.474, P?<?0.01), suggesting that TOC plays an important role in the transport and re-distribution of PCDD/PCDF in the Yangtze River basin.  相似文献

When in the vicinity of a metal reclamation plant in Tyrol, Austria, increased PCDD/PCDF levels were found in soil and spruce needles, the extent of grass contamination as well as the PCDD/PCDF content in milk of cows fed with hay from this area was determined. The milk samples showed a significant increase in PCDD/PCDF levels compared to control samples. In a blood sample of a farmer a significant increase in PCDD/PCDF levels was found. Correlations in PCDD/PCDF levels between soil, spruce needles, grass, cow's milk and human blood will be presented.  相似文献
