Formation of polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins (PCDDs), polychlorinated dibenzofurans (PCDFs), and chlorinated phenols on CuCl(2) from unsubstituted phenol and three monochlorophenols was studied in a flow reactor over a temperature range of 100-425 degrees C. Heated nitrogen gas streams containing 8.0% oxygen were used as carrier gas. The 0.00024mol of unsubstituted phenol and 0.00039mol of each monochlorophenol were passed through a 1g and 1cm SiO(2) particle containing 0.5% (Cu by mass) CuCl(2). Chlorination preferentially occurred on ortho-(2, 6) and para-(4) positions. Chlorination increased up to 200 degrees C, and thereafter decreased as temperature increased. Chlorination of phenols plays an important role in the formation of the more chlorinated PCDD/Fs. Chlorinated benzenes are formed possibly from both chlorination of benzene and chlorodehydroxylation of phenols. Chlorinated phenols with ortho chlorine formed PCDD products, and major PCDD products were produced via loss of one chlorine. For PCDF formation, at least one unchlorinated ortho carbon was required.  相似文献

Six strains of white rot fungi were tested for their biodegradation ability of low chlorinated polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB) commercial mixture (Delor 103) in real soil system. Phanerochaete chrysosporium and Trametes versicolor did not show any ability to degrade PCBs in soil. On the contrary, four strains of Pleurotus ostreatus were able to remove about 40% of Delor 103 in two months. All P. ostreatus strains decomposed PCBs selectively with the preference for congeners with chlorine atoms in ortho > meta > para position. Degradation efficiency decreased with increasing number of chlorination.  相似文献

This study presents the first investigation of concentrations and congener group patterns of short- (SCCPs) and medium-chain chlorinated paraffins (MCCPs) in fish from the North and Baltic Sea. North Sea dab, cod and flounder were studied. High resolution gas chromatography (HRGC) coupled to low resolution mass spectrometry (LRMS) in the electron capture negative ionization mode (ECNI) was employed. Good linearity (R2>0.993, 7 measuring points) was achieved between 1 and 100 ng/g of CP mixtures for SCCPs and MCCPs. The limits of detection were 0.5-1 ng/microl of CP mixture for the major congener groups of SCCPs and MCCPs. A clean-up comprising fat extraction, adsorption chromatography on silicagel impregnated with concentrated sulphuric acid and adsorption chromatography on Florisil was employed to avoid interferences from other polychlorinated compounds. Recoveries of CPs in spiked samples ranged between 80% and 100%. Accuracy was controlled with spiked samples and deviated not more than 10% from the expected values. Quantification was performed with standards of an average chlorine content as close as possible to that of the samples (SCCPs: 59-62%, MCCPs: 53-58%). SCCP concentrations ranged between 19 and 286 ng/g liver wet weight (ww), MCCP concentrations were comparable with a range of 25-260 ng/gww. Congener group patterns were also determined and discussed. In samples from the Baltic Sea the SCCP congener pattern was similar to that of commercial SCCP mixtures or C13 congeners were most abundant. In samples from the North Sea a higher relative abundance of C10 congeners was observed.  相似文献

Polychlorinated naphthalenes (PCNs) formed along with dibenzo-p-dioxin and dibenzofuran products in the slow combustion of dichlorophenols (DCPs) at 600 degrees C were identified. Each DCP reactant produced a unique set of PCN products. Major PCN congeners observed in the experiments were consistent with products predicted from a mechanism involving an intermediate formed by ortho-ortho carbon coupling of phenoxy radicals; polychlorinated dibenzofurans (PCDFs) are formed from the same intermediate. Tautomerization of the intermediate and H2O elimination produces PCDFs; alternatively, CO elimination to form dihydrofulvalene and fusion produces naphthalenes. Only trace amounts of tetrachloronaphthalene congeners were formed, suggesting that the preferred PCN formation pathways from chlorinated phenols involve loss of chlorine. 3,4-DCP produced the largest yields of PCDF and PCN products with two or more chlorine substituents. 2,6-DCP did not produce tri- or tetra-chlorinated PCDF or PCN congeners. It did produce 1,8-DCN, however, which could not be explained.  相似文献

The occurrence and distribution of polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins (PCDDs), polychlorinated dibenzofurans (PCDFs) and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) in a typical process of production of 1,4-dichlorobenzene (p-DCB) were investigated systematically in this study. P5CDFs and H6CDFs were the main congeners of PCDD/Fs, while only low levels of other PCDD/Fs were detected in the samples. The concentrations of PCBs were up to 4614 ng/g in the semi-manufactured products, and 1797 ng/g in the product p-DCB. It was also found that high chlorinated PCB congeners increased with the further chlorination. The levels of PCDD/Fs decreased obviously in the purification process, while PCBs could not be removed effectively. Polychlorophenols and other important dioxin precursors (1,4-dichloro-2-phenoxybenzene and 2-phenyl-2',5,5'-trichlorophenol) were also analyzed. Polychlorophenols which ortho- and para-positions of the hydroxyl were substituted by chlorine were the main congeners. In addition, a possible pathway of the formation of PCDD/Fs and PCBs in the production of p-DCB was presented. The results of this article suggest that re-estimation on the risk of using p-DCB products, especially the products for daily use such as mothballs, is expected.  相似文献

The formation of polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins (PCDDs), polychlorinated dibenzofurans (PCDFs) and the three coplanar polychlorinated biphenyls (pPCBs) was studied during labscale fludized bed combustion of eight artificial municipal solid waste (MSW) fuel mixtures. The level of chlorine as well as the chlorine source varies within the different fuel mixtures. Four different chlorine sources were studied, viz, an inorgnaic (NaCl) and three organic sources, pure PVC plastic and two products (floor and cable) and the total chlorine level varies between 0.28% and 1.1%. The experiments were performed in a 5 kW laboratory scale fluidized bed reactor. A correlation between the total chlorine in the fuel and the formation of the hepta- and octa-chlorinated PCDD/F homologues was found. However, the most important variable for changes in the PCDDs/Fs and pPCBs formation was disturbance in the combustion condition and not the variation in chlorine content of the fuel. Furthermore, no differences in formation between the chlorine sources could be seen.  相似文献

The chlorination of bisphenol A (BPA) in aqueous media was investigated in order to describe the degradation profile of this compound and the formation of chlorinated products. Aqueous solutions of BPA (approx. 1 mg/l) were chlorinated by sodium hypochlorite solution at room temperature and under weakly alkaline conditions. Chlorinated compounds were extracted with dichloromethane and determined by gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS). BPA was consumed completely within 5 min of chlorination, when the initial chlorine concentration was 10.24 mg/l (molar ratio to BPA, 58.7). On the other hand, when the initial chlorine concentration was 1.03 mg/l (molar ratio, 6.56), 9.3% of BPA still remained after 60 min chlorination. Five chlorinated BPA congeners, 2-chlorobisphenol A (MCBPA), 2,6-dichlorobisphenol A (2,6-D2CBPA), 2,2'-dichlorobisphenol A (2,2'-D2CBPA), 2,2',6-trichlorobisphenol A (T3CBPA) and 2,2', 6,6'-tetrachlorobisphenol A (T4CBPA) were formed in the earlier stages of chlorination. Several chlorinated phenolic compounds, 2,4,6-trichlorophenol (T3CP), 2,6-dichloro-1,4-benzoquinone (D2CBQ), 2,6-dichloro-1,4-hydroquinone (D2CHQ), C9H10Cl2O2, C9H8Cl2O and C10H12Cl2O2, were also formed by further chlorination.  相似文献

The synthesis of certain 14C-labelled polychlorinated alkanes is described. The compounds used as starting material were [1-14C]lauric acid, [1-14C]hexadecane and [U-14C]palmitic acid. The carboxylic acids were reduced with lithium aluminium hydride. The alcohol obtained was treated with triphenylphosphine dichloride which gave the corresponding 1-chloroalkane. The chlorination of the alkanes was performed in tetrachloromethane by use of sulphuryl chloride with benzoyl peroxide or UV-light as initiators. Three mixtures of polychlorinated dodecanes (45.9%, 55.9% and 68.5% chlorine) and two polychlorinated hexadecanes (34.1% and 69% chlorine) were synthesized. The products of higher chlorine content prepared were only available via the photoinduced chlorination.  相似文献

This study shows the catalyzing effects of iron and copper on the formation of chlorinated compounds such as chlorobenzenes (ClBzs), chlorophenols (CIPhs), polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins (PCDDs) and dibenzofurans (PCDFs). Both total concentrations and congener distributions have been studied. The parameters and conditions varied during the combustion tests were the complete and incomplete combustion and the metal and chlorine addition. The incomplete combustion promoted the formation of organic chlorinated compounds in flue gas particles. Highly chlorinated congeners of PCDD/F were dominant in the flue gas particles, whereas the importance of lower chlorinated congener were increased in the gas phase. In the complete combustion conditions the concentrations of PCDD/Fs increased when the degree of chlorination were high, nevertheless the concentrations of tetra and penta PCDD/Fs were higher in the gas phase than the concentrations in the fly ash particles. Organic chlorine promoted the formation of chlorinated compounds more effectively than inorganic chlorine, which instead promoted the formation of PCDD/Fs in the gas phase, especially with copper catalyst. Different concentration levels of chlorinated compounds were observed in the gas phase and in particles when the chlorine source and combustion conditions were varied from incomplete to optimum conditions. Both copper and iron seem to have a catalytic effect on PCDD/F formation.  相似文献

Heterogeneous formation of chlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins (CDDs) and dibenzofurans (CDFs) on CuCl2 from three phenols without ortho chlorine and one phenol with two ortho chlorines was studied in a flow reactor over a temperature range of 325-450 degrees C. Heated nitrogen gas streams containing 8% oxygen, 1.5% benzene vapor, and equal amounts of phenol, 3-chlorophenol, 3,4-dichlorophenol and 2,4,6-trichlorophenol vapor (700 ppmv, each) were passed through a 1 g particle bed of silica and 0.5% (Cu mass) CuCl2. Maximum product yields of greater than 1.4% phenol conversion to CDD and 5.7% phenol conversion to CDF were observed between 400 and 450 degrees C. CDDs formed with loss of one chlorine atom were favored. While total CDD/F yield varied with temperature, CDD/F homologue and isomer distributions did not vary significantly with temperature. Based on the results of experiments with single phenol precursors, phenol precursors could be assigned to all PCDD/F products. Of the chlorinated phenols without ortho chlorine that were studied, 3,4-dichlorophenol was found to have the greatest propensity to form CDFs.  相似文献

The photodegradation of polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins (PCDDs), which include tetra- to octa-CDDs (TeCDD, PeCDD, HxCDD, HpCDD and OCDD), was carried out in the presence of Fe(II) and H2O2 mixed reagent. The degradation efficiency was strongly influenced by UV irradiation, and the initial concentrations of H2O2 and Fe(II). An initial TeCDD concentration of 10 ng l(-1) was completely degraded within 20 min under the optimum conditions. All PCDDs tested were successfully degraded by Fe(II)/H2O2/UV treatment and complete degradation of TeCDD, PeCDD and HxCDD was achieved within 120 min. PCDD photodegradation rates decreased with the number of chlorine atoms. The degradation process of TeCDD by this system seems to be initiated by an oxidative reaction (OH* radical attack) because less chlorinated DDs as intermediate products were not detected. From the Frontier electron density calculation, the first OH* radical attack positions on TeCDD were found to be four C atoms neighboring two O atoms. The decomposition of TeCDD gave 4,5-dichlorocatechol as an intermediate product. A TeCDD degradation scheme was proposed based on the identified intermediate and the values of Frontier electron density. Based on these results, Fe(II)/H2O2/UV system could be useful technology for the treatment of wastewater containing persistent pollutants such as dioxins and polychlorinated biphenyls.  相似文献

Isomer composition of polychlorinated naphthalenes (PCNs) was measured for municipal waste incinerator fly ash samples and for emission samples produced from soot and copper-deposit experiments conducted at the United States Environmental Protection Agency (US-EPA). Two types of PCN isomer patterns were identified. One pattern contained specific PCN isomers in which chlorine atoms are substituted as if the peri(alpha-) position were dechlorinated from the higher chlorinated PCNs one by one. In another pattern, the isomers had a tendency for the chlorine atoms to assume successive positions on the naphthalene ring, which may be caused by specifically oriented chlorination. Some of these isomers increased, together with several polychlorinated dibenzofuran (PCDF) and a few polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxin (PCDD) isomers. The ratios between some specific PCN, PCDF, and PCDD isomers measured for the fly ash samples agree with those obtained from the soot and copper-deposit experiments. The observations suggest that these isomers were formed possibly from de novo synthesis utilizing the carbon structure contained in soot under the catalytic effect of a copper compound. Typical isomers for PCNs and PCDFs produced from incineration emissions were identified.  相似文献

Nine polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB) congeners (2-chlorobiphenyl, 3-chlorobiphenyl, 4-chlorobiphenyl, 2,3,4-trichlorobiphenyl, 2,2',5,5'-tetrachlorobiphenyl, 2,3',4,4',5-pentachlorobiphenyl, 3,3',4,4',5-pentachlorobiphenyl, 2,2',4,4',5,5'-hexachlorobiphenyl, and decachlorobiphenyl) were dechlorinated by the sodium dispersion method (SD) at low temperature (60 degrees C). The dechlorination of 4-chlorobiphenyl was the fastest among the three monochlorobiphenyls. As for the other six congeners, we investigated the major dechlorination pathways. Although reaction selectivity was not very sensitive to the position of the chlorine substituent, the chlorines at the para position were slightly easier to dechlorinate than those at the ortho or meta positions. The decomposition rate increased with the total numbers of chlorine substituents. A chlorine situated between two other chlorines showed a high reactivity. When the numbers of chlorines on each of the phenyl rings were different, the reactions occurred on the more substituted ring. In the degradation of 4-chlorobiphenyl at elevated temperature (160 degrees C), we investigated the structures of the polymerized products and whether all the organic chlorinated compounds degraded finally or not. As for the dimers, p-quarterphenyl (QP) and m,p-QP were detected but not o-QP, m-QP, o,p-QP, o,m-QP, or the mono- to tetra-chlorinated QPs. Compounds with a molecular weight of 534.4183 or 758.6713 were detected. They were considered to have C40H54 or C56H86 as their molecular formula. The compounds were most probably the polymerized products resulting from coupling of hexadecane or two hexadecanes and two phenylcyclohexadienes. It was thought the dechlorination and the polymerization were the main reactions. All of many detected compounds were hydrocarbons without chlorines, and no peaks originating from organic chlorinated compounds were observed by mass spectroscopic (MS) methods.  相似文献

Seven effluent samples from a modern pulp mill, in which chlorine and chlorine dioxide bleaching is used, and five sediment samples from the recipient watercourse were investigated for polychlorinated dibenzothiophenes (PCDBTs), polychlorinated thianthrenes (PCTAs), polychlorinated diphenylsulfides (PCDPSs) and for alkylated derivatives of these. Mainly di-, tri-, tetra- and pentachlorinated congeners were studied. Particles and filtrates from the effluents were analyzed separately. The concentration levels of the nonalkylated compounds were found to be higher in the filtrates than in the particles. Trichlorinated dibenzothiophenes and thianthrenes were found as the major congeners. Pentachlorinated derivatives were not found. Alkylated di- and trichlorodibenzothiophenes were detected in some samples, while alkylated chlorinated thianthrenes and diphenylsulfides were nondetectable. The estimated concentration levels of the compounds detected were in the range of 40–2700 pg/L in the pulp mill effluents and in the range of 2–40 pg/g dry weight in the sediments. Mixtures of methylated di- and trichlorodibenzothiophenes used as references in analyses were prepared from methylchlorobiphenyls. Some new pure model compounds were obtained by HPLC fractionation of the chlorination mixture of dibenzothiophene. Structures of these were determined by 1H NMR.  相似文献

Transformation of all 19 chlorophenol (CP) isomers was investigated in a laboratory anaerobic methanogenic sludge that had not been exposed to synthetic chemicals. Concentration of CP was analyzed over time to calculate disappearance rate constants using first-order reaction kinetics and all possible CP degradation pathways were estimated. The rate constants ranged between 0.46 x 10(-3) and 0.161 day(-1). CPs were transformed via dechlorination. The chlorine atom at the ortho-position was the most easily dechlorinated, whereas dechlorination rate at the para-position was lowest. The overall pathways of CP transformation were much less diverse than that we previously found for contaminated sediment. The Dolfing hypothesis of microbial selection of the most thermodynamically favorable pathways was not applicable for CP transformation in this study as well as previous study performed by our group.  相似文献

The Binghamton State Office Building (BSOB) polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB) and chlorinated benzene containing electrical transformer arcing and fire incident of February 5, 1981, was the first recognized incident of its kind. A surge of excess electricity led to an electrical panel malfunction at 5:30 AM. For about 30 minutes intense heat was generated as electrical arcing occurred. Dense smoke containing polychlorinated dibenzofurans (PCDFs) and polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins (PCDDs) as well as biphenylenes billowed up through air shafts and contaminated all areas of the building later tested for these chemicals. This incident was the first outside a laboratory setting to demonstrate the conversion of PCBs, in the presence of oxygen and heat, to PCDFs, and of the chlorinated benzenes to PCDDs. It demonstrated a hitherto unsuspected potential health hazard of PCB and chlorinated benzene containing electrical transformers, and by implication, capacitors, when not properly separated from areas of buildings used by workers and public. The building has been shut since then and an estimated $40,000,000 may be spent on direct cleanup and rehabilitative costs prior to reopening of the building, if it is to be reopened. Elevated levels of serum PCBs were detected in workers, eg., firefighters initially involved in the fire, which stabilized at lower levels later in the year. Elevated penta- and hexa- chlorinated furan isomers corresponding to isomers found in the soot (and identical to some Yusho isomers) were found in some cleanup workers. Electron microscopy of percutaneous liver biopsies of three patients chemically exposed from the incident showed lesions similar to those seen in guinea pigs fed the soot, which was biologically quite active. This incident, and others occurring afterward, has led the US Environmental Protection Agency to ban PCB containing transformers from similar buildings.  相似文献

Microbial transformation and degradation of polychlorinated biphenyls   总被引:7,自引:0,他引:7
This paper reviews the potential of microorganisms to transform polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs). In anaerobic environments, higher chlorinated biphenyls can undergo reductive dehalogenation. Meta- and para-chlorines in PCB congeners are more susceptible to dechlorination than ortho-chlorines. Anaerobes catalyzing PCB dechlorination have not been isolated in pure culture but there is strong evidence from enrichment cultures that some Dehalococcoides spp. and other microorganisms within the Chloroflexi phylum can grow by linking the oxidation of H(2) to the reductive dechlorination of PCBs. Lower chlorinated biphenyls can be co-metabolized aerobically. Some aerobes can also grow by utilizing PCB congeners containing only one or two chlorines as sole carbon/energy source. An example is the growth of Burkholderia cepacia by transformation of 4-chlorobiphenyl to chlorobenzoates. The latter compounds are susceptible to aerobic mineralization. Higher chlorinated biphenyls therefore are potentially fully biodegradable in a sequence of reductive dechlorination followed by aerobic mineralization of the lower chlorinated products.  相似文献

A method for the analysis of polychlorinated naphthalenes (PCN) has been developed. It is based on a simple clean-up procedure using activated carbon and a mass fragmentographic analysis using the negative ions formed during chemical ionization (NCI). Unlike the technical PCN products we have analyzed, a few isomerides containing four to six chlorine atoms dominate the PCN pattern in the environmental samples. The levels found in samples of biota from fresh water and marine environments in Sweden were between 3 and 62 ng PCN per gram lipid.  相似文献

Fish samples of different origins have been analysed with short column gas chromatography-electron capture negative ion/mass spectrometry (SCGC/ECNI-MS). The influence of standards composed from different polychlorinated alkanes on the quantification of short chain polychlorinated paraffines (CP) was studied. Concentration values varied very differently with the response of the standards depending on their chlorination degree. The results show, that technical CP products should not be used as standard in most cases, because the composition of polychlorinated alkanes in fish is different from sample to sample.  相似文献
