In order to explore the beneficial utilization of heavy oil fly ash (HOFA) generated in the power plants, the present study is intended to optimize the chromium(VI) [Cr(VI)] adsorption on activated carbon produced from HOFA. The raw HOFA obtained from a power plant was washed by nitric/hydrochloric acid and activated at 800 °C with a holding time of 60 min to produce fly ash activated carbon (FAC). Phosphoric acid was used as a chemical agent to improve the surface characteristics of the HOFA during the activation process. Batch adsorption experiments were employed to evaluate the effects of different parameters such as initial Cr(VI) concentration, pH, and FAC dose on the removal of Cr(VI) from aqueous solution. A total of 17 adsorption experimental runs were carried out employing the detailed conditions followed the response surface methodology based on the Box–Behnken design. The results indicate that developed FAC has the potential for removing Cr(VI) from wastewater. Under the test conditions, a maximum of 91.51 % Cr(VI) removal efficiency was achieved.  相似文献

This paper deals with a new application of poly 3-methyl thiophene synthesized chemically onto sawdust (termed as P3MTh/SD) as an effective adsorbent for removal of Cr(VI) ions from aqueous solutions using column system. Chemical synthesis of poly 3-methyl thiophene was performed by addition of ferric chloride (in chloroform) as oxidant to sawdust which had previously been soaked in monomer solution. All the sorption experiments were conducted using dynamic or column system at room temperature. The effect of important parameters such as pH and initial concentration on uptake of Cr(VI) was investigated. In order to find out the possibility of the regeneration and reuse of the exhausted adsorbent, desorption studies were also performed. The currently introduced adsorbent was found to be an efficient adsorbent for removal of highly toxic and hazardous Cr(VI) ions from aqueous solutions. As our breakthrough analysis has indicated, each gram of P3MTh/SD is able to remove more than 95% of Cr(VI)ions from 300 mL of Cr(VI) polluted solution with the initial concentration of 25 mg L−1 in column system. Sorption/desorption of Cr(VI) ions was found to be a highly pH dependent processes.  相似文献

Nano-ZnO-chitosan bio-composite beads were prepared for the sorption of \({\text{UO}}_{2}^{{2+}}\) from aqueous media. The resulting nano-ZnO/CTS bio-composite beads were characterized by TEM, XRD etc. The sorption of \({\text{UO}}_{2}^{{2+}}\) by bio-composite beads was optimized using RSM. The correlation between four variables was modelled and studied. According to RSM data, correlation coefficients (R2?=?0.99) and probability F-values (F?=?2.24?×?10??10) show that the model fits the experimental data well. Adsorption capacity for nano-ZnO/CTS bio-composite beads was obtained at 148.7 mg/g under optimum conditions. The results indicate that nano-ZnO/CTS bio-composite beads are appropriate for the adsorption of \({\text{UO}}_{2}^{{2+}}\) ions from aqueous media. Also, the suitability of adsorption values to adsorption isotherms was researched and thermodynamic data were calculated.  相似文献

Chitosan, its nanoparticles and whiskers present an excellent capacity to complex chromium ions. However, this phenomenon is influenced by different parameters. In our search, we determined the appropriate range of pH to form chitosan–Cr(III), nanoparticles Cr(III) and whiskers–Cr(III) complex. We studied also the influence of chromium concentration and nature of chitosan-based materials on complexation process. Our main aim is approximate the optimal conditions to remove chromium(III) from tanning bath, recuperated from tannery wastewater of Marrakech in Morocco. However, the results of adsorption kinetic in tannery wastewater revealed that chitosan, its nanoparticles, whiskers and biocomposites are good sorbent of chromium as well, even if the adsorbed quantity is less compared to chromium solution. Although, according to ICP-OES analysis in this real effluent, nanoparticles are the best complexing ligand, after 24 h of contact nanoparticles can remove 70% of chromium from this tannery wastewater.  相似文献

In this study, dl-malic acid and hydrogen peroxide were used as leaching agents to remove metals from e-waste (printed-circuit boards) and itaconic acid-grafted poly(vinyl alcohol)-encapsulated wood pulp (IA-g-PVA-en-WP) to uptake metals from leachate with high proficiency [11.63 mg g?1; 93.03 % for Cd(II), 11.90 mg g?1; 95.18 % for Pb(II), and 12.14 mg g?1; 97.08 % for Ni(II)]. Metals were recovered from the loaded biosorbent by desorption studies. The standard analytical techniques, such as elemental analysis, Fourier-transform-infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy, and thermogravimetric analysis, were used to characterize the recovering agent (biosorbent). At equilibrium, the metal uptake data were fitted to Langmuir and D–R isotherms (R 2 > 0.99) significantly, revealing, the homogeneous distribution of active sites on biosorbent’s backbone. The possible mechanism appeared to be ion exchanges of metal ions with H+ together with binding over functionalities (COO?). Dimensionless equilibrium parameter (R L) showed the favourability of metal uptake at lower concentration, while mean adsorption energy (E) certified the physical binding of metal on functionalities which was further confirmed by sticking probability and activation energy parameters. Reusability studies were also conducted to state the performance of biosorbent.  相似文献

The selective modification of sodium montmorillonite (Na+-Mt) surface with polyionene followed by poly (succinimde-co-aspartate) has been considered. Na+-Mt was allowed to react with well characterized polyionene in two fold excess. The resulting polyionene/Mt (IC) was further modified with poly (succinimide-co-aspartate) through an ion exchange process. The obtained polyaspartate/Mt (IPS) composite was characterized by elemental analysis, X-ray diffraction, FTIR spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and BET surface analyzer. The adsorption efficiency of IPS composite was investigated for the removal of Pb(II) and Cd(II) from aqueous solution under different experimental conditions including initial metal ions concentration, temperature and single and binary mixture systems of metal ions. The experimental data were analyzed by Langmuir, Freundlich, Temkin, and Dubinin-Radushkevich models. Langmuir model reveals that the monolayer adsorption capacity of IPS was 92.59 and 67.57 mg/g for Pb(II) and Cd(II), respectively. The modification of parent Na+-Mt enhanced their adsorption capacity by about 87.91 and 29.84% for Pb(II) and Cd(II), respectively, due to inclusion of extra active sites of polyaspartate. The mean sorption energy, E calculated from Dubinin–Radushkevich isotherm were 2.75 and 1.98 kJ/mol for the adsorption of Pb(II) and Cd(II), respectively, indicating physical adsorption process. Also, The thermodynamic parameters were calculated and indicated that the adsorption was spontaneous and exothermic process. The mechanism of cation exchange and complexation of metal ions was suggested. IPS composite has a considerable potential for the removal of heavy metal ions from aqueous solution and wastewater stream.  相似文献

In this study, a novel horizontal rotating soil washing process and equipment were developed and tested for pilot-scale remediation of soils from a site polluted by chromium ore process residue. Operating parameters, including cylinder rotational velocity, cylinder tilt angle, heating temperature and liquid/soil ratio, were investigated. The Taguchi method was used for the experiment design, and the standard L16 orthogonal array with four parameters and four levels was selected for optimising the operating parameters. Optimal removal efficiency was achieved at cylinder rotational velocity of 2.5 rpm, cylinder tilt angle of 2.6°, heating temperature of 200 °C and liquid/soil ratio of 8. The efficiency of citric acid as an extractant in the novel process was compared with that of water. The analysis of the residual Cr(VI) concentration of the soil shows that citric acid could efficiently remove 22.89 % more Cr(VI) than water in one-stage washing. The residual Cr(VI) concentration in the soil after the three-stage washing is as low as 26.16 mg/kg, which meets the screening levels for soil environmental risk assessment of sites in Beijing City (30 mg/kg). Further study is currently underway to optimise the novel process and equipment for commercial-scale use.  相似文献

Ni(II) imprinted and non-imprinted bioadsorbent alginate beads were prepared, and utilized in the selective adsorption of Ni(II) ions. The optimum adsorption capacity were 6.00 mmol g?1 at 500 ppm initial metal ion concentration at pH 7 for Ni(II) imprinted alginate beads (IIP). The equilibrium data were applied to Langmuir and Freundlich adsorption isotherms, and it fitted both isotherm models. Thermodynamic parameters showed favorable and endothermic nature of adsorption. Ni(II) imprinted bead showed the strong ability to selective adsorption from Cu(II), Co(II) and Zn(II) ions. In conclusion, Ni(II) ion imprinted alginate beads could be used repeatedly without any significant reduce of adsorption capacity.  相似文献

Synthesis of sodium alginate-g-poly(acrylamide-co-N-methylacrylamide) [S-III], sodium alginate-g-poly(N-methylacrylamide-co-N,N-dimethylacrylamide) [S-II], sodium alginate-g-poly(acrylamide-co-N,N-dimethylacrylamide) [S-I]. Sodium alginate-g-poly(N,N-dimethylacrylamide) [SAG-g-PDMA] and sodium alginate-g-poly(acrylamide) [SAG-g-PAM] were prepared by solution polymerization technique using potassium peroxydisulfate as the initiator at 70?°C in water medium. The graft copolymers were characterized by FTIR and NMR (1H and 13C) spectroscopy, SEM and XRD studies. All the five graft copolymers were used to remove Pb(II) ions from the aqueous solution and also in flocculation studies of kaolin clay (1.0 wt%), silica (1.0 wt%) and iron ore slime (0.25 wt%) suspensions. A comparative studies of all the five graft copolymers were also made in both the two cases. The Pb(II) ion removal capacity of all the graft copolymers follows the order S-III?>?SAG-g-PAM?>?S-II?>?SAG-g-PDMA?>?S-I. But the flocculation performance of the graft copolymers follows the order S-II?>?S-I?>?S-III?>?SAG-g-PDMA?>?SAG-g-PAM. S-III was also used for the competitive metal ion removal with Hg(II), Cd(II), Cu(II) and Zn(II). Pb(II) adsorption of S-III (the best Pb(II) ion adsorber) follows pseudo second order rate equation and Langmuir adsorption isotherm.  相似文献

Gelatin-Zr(IV) phosphate composite (GT/ZPC) was synthesized by sol–gel method. Different techniques viz. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), X-ray powdered diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) were used for the characterisation of GT/ZPC composite ion exchanger. The ion exchange capacity (IEC) of GT/ZPC was observed to be better (1.04 meq g?1) than its inorganic counterpart (0.64 meq g?1). The pH studies revealed the monofunctional nature of GT/ZPC with one inflection point. The distribution studies showed that the GT/ZPC was highly selective for Cd2+ as compare to other metal ions. The environmental applicability of ion exchanger has been analysed for binary separations of metal ions using column method. Cd2+ was effectively removed from synthetic mixture of metal ions (Zn2+, Pb2+, Ni2+, Co2+ and Cu2+).  相似文献

The ability of activated carbon from cassava peels to remove heavy metals like Cu(II) and Pb(II) from hospital wastewater was investigated. The study showed that a pH of 8 was the best for the sorption of both metal ions onto the biosorbent. The time-dependent experiments for the metal ions showed that the binding of the metal ions to the biomass was rapid and occurred within 20–120 min. Sorption efficiency increased with a rise in adsorbent dosage. It increased from 12 to 73 % for Pb(II) and 26 to 79 % for Cu(II) when the adsorbent dose increased from 2 to 12 g. An increase in temperature led to an increase in sorption for both metal ions. The Langmuir model showed that the biomass has a higher sorption capacity for Cu(II) than Pb(II), with q m = 5.80 mg g?1 for Pb(II) and 8.00 mg g?1 for Cu(II). The Freundlich isotherm K f was 1.4 for Pb(II) and 1.8 for Cu(II), indicating a preferential sorption of Cu(II) onto the biosorbent. Adsorption capacity was found to decrease with an increase in particle sizes. Sorption occurred by physical mechanisms and was mainly controlled by intraparticle diffusion.  相似文献

Based on pre-experimentation, three ornamental plants, Mirabilis jalapa, Impatiens Balsamin (I. Balsamin) and Tagetes erecta L., were selected as target plants to study the phytoextraction of chromium (Cr) in tannery sludge irrigated with four treatments according to Cr concentration gradient [Control (CK); 20.50 × 103 mg kg?1 (T1); 51.25 × 103 mg kg?1 (T2); 102.50 × 103 mg kg?1 (T3)]. Results of pot experiments showed that the biomass of Mirabilis jalapa and Tagetes erecta L. had no significant differences among the four treatments, while I. Balsamin showed a decline trend in the biomass with the increase of Cr concentration, probably due to some extent to the poisoning effect of Cr under treatment T2 or T3. Mirabilis jalapa accumulated Cr concentration, with 408.97, 124.97, 630.16 and 57.30 mg kg?1 in its roots, stems, leaves and inflorescence, respectively. The translocation factor and the bioaccumulation coefficient of Mirabilis jalapa are each greater than 1, indicating that Mirabilis jalapa has the strong ability to tolerate and enrich Cr by biological processes. Comparing accumulation properties of the three ornamental plants, in the amount and allocation, Mirabilis jalapa showed the highest phytoextraction efficiency and could grow well at the high Cr concentration. Our experiments suggest that Mirabilis jalapa is the expected flower species for Cr removal from tannery sludge.  相似文献

The multiwall carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) were modified by 2-acrylamido-2-methyl-1-propanesulfonic acid (AMPS) via grafting reaction and γ-rays of 60Co source was used as initiator. The outcome product was called hydroxyethylated (HOEt-MWCNTs) graft poly(AMPS) and abbreviated as HOEt-MWCNTs-g-PAMPS. The parameters that affected the grafting yield were optimized. The maximum grafting obtained was ~20 %. HOEt-MWCNTs-g-PAMPS were characterized by Fourier transform infra red, scanning electron microscopy, high resolution transmission electron microscopy, thermal gravimetric analysis. The adsorptive removals of malachite green chloride (MGC) and reactive red 198 (RR-198) onto HOEt-MWCNTs-g-PAMPS were studied at variable conditions. The adsorption isotherms were analyzed using Langmuir, Redlich–Peterson, Freundlich, Khan and Sips models. The results referred that Sips model is the best fitting to adsorption of MGC and Freundlich model is the best fitting to RR-198 adsorption. The monolayer coverage capacities of HOEt-MWCNTs-g-PAMPS for MGC and RR-198 dyes were found 172 and 323 mg g?1, respectively. The rate of kinetic adsorption processes of MGC and RR-198 onto HOEt-MWCNTs-g-PAMPS were described by using pseudo-first order, pseudo-second order and intraparticle diffusion models. The pseudo-first order and pseudo-second order models were the best choice among the kinetic models to depict the adsorption behaviors of MGC and RR-198 dyes onto HOEt-MWCNTs-g-PAMPS, respectively. Further, the effect of temperature on the adsorption isotherms was investigated and the thermodynamic parameters were obtained. The results indicated that the adsorption process is spontaneous and endothermic. The values of ΔG° varied in range with the mean values showing a gradual increase from ?3.17 to ?3.64 kJ mol?1 for MGC and ?3.36 to ?3.73 kJ mol?1 for RR-198. The reusability and regeneration of adsorbent were investigated. The outcome data referred to that the efficiency of adsorbent >98 %. The outline results declared that there is a good potentiality for the HOEt-MWCNTs-g-PAMPS to be used as an adsorbent for the removal of MGC and RR-198 from aqueous solutions.  相似文献

In this study, chitosan and bio-based activated carbon obtained from sugarcane bagasse biowaste were used for the synthesis of efficient sorbent for Cu(II) and Cd(II) ion via precipitation method. The prepared material was enriched with amino groups through grafting tetraethylenepentamine and tested for heavy metal remediation from water samples. The influence of pH was investigated showing optimum sorption at pH 6 for Cu(II) and Cd(II). Sorption tests, explained by means of the most common sorption models, evidenced that the best performances were reached pointing out the promising application of the prepared sorbent for water purification treatments: Uptake kinetics are relatively fast: the equilibrium was reached within 140 min; and the kinetic profiles were preferentially fitted by the pseudo-second order rate equation. Sorption isotherms are fitted by Langmuir equation. The sorbent showed high metal ion sorption capacity with negligible influence of ion strength. The maximum sorption capacities reached 3.44 and 2.38 mmol g??1 for Cu(II) and Cd(II), respectively at 298 K. Thermodynamic parameters were evaluated through variation of temperature. The sorption is unfavorable at elevated temperatures. Metal ions were successfully desorbed using 1 M HNO3 solution.  相似文献

Removal of Cr6 + and Ni2+ from aqueous solution using bagasse and fly ash   总被引:9,自引:0,他引:9
Raw bagasse and fly ash, the waste generated in sugar mills and boilers respectively have been used as low-cost potential adsorbents. Raw bagasse was pretreated with 0.1N NaOH followed by 0.1N CH3COOH before its application. These low-cost adsorbents were used for the removal of chromium and nickel from an aqueous solution. The kinetics of adsorption and extent of adsorption at equilibrium are dependent on the physical and chemical characteristics of the adsorbent, adsorbate and experimental system. The effect of hydrogen ion concentration, contact time, sorbent dose, initial concentrations of adsorbate and adsorbent and particle size on the uptake of chromium and nickel were studied in batch experiments. The Sorption data has been correlated with Langmuir, Freundlich and Bhattacharya and Venkobachar adsorption models. The efficiencies of adsorbent materials for the removal of Cr(VI) and Ni(II) were found to be between 56.2 and 96.2% and 83.6 and 100%, respectively. These results were obtained at the optimized conditions of pH, contact time, sorbent dose, sorbate concentration of 100 mg/l and with the variation of adsorbent particles size between 0.075 and 4.75 mm. The order of selectivity is powdered activated carbon > bagasse > fly ash for Cr(VI) removal and powdered activated carbon > fly ash > bagasse for Ni(II) removal.  相似文献

Chitosan as a biopolymer, biodegradable, safe, non-toxic and widely abundant in nature was grafted with poly(2-hydroxyaniline) (P2-HA) through aqueous chemical oxidative copolymerization using ammonium persulphate in acetic acid medium. The grafting conditions were studied by varying grafting parameters. The effect of oxidant, 2-hydroxyaniline (2-HA) and acetic acid concentrations on the rate of copolymerization was studied. The synthesized graft characterized using UV–Vis, FTIR, TGA, XRD, and scanning electron microscope and compared with chitosan and P2-HA. The grafting enhances the thermal properties of chitosan. The effect of temperature on the rate of grafting copolymerization reaction was studied. The apparent activation energy (Ea) of the copolymerization reaction found to be 21.1116 kJ/mol. Also, ΔH* and ΔS*, were calculated and found to 22.8630 kJ/mol and ?109.4290 J/mol K respectively. The mechanism of the grafting copolymerization reaction discussed. Chitosan, P2-HA and chitosan-graft-P2-HA used for the removal of Cr, Fe, Mn, Cu and Zn divalent ions from a contaminated water samples. The adsorption isotherm parameters are given.  相似文献

Sunflower residue, an agricultural waste material for the removal of lead (Pb) and cadmium (Cd) from aqueous solutions were investigated using a batch method. Adsorbent was prepared by washing sunflower residue with deionized water until the effluent was colorless. Batch mode experiments were carried out as a function of solution pH, adsorbent dosage, initial concentration and contact time. The results indicated that the adsorbent showed good sorption potential and maximum metal removal was observed at pH 5. Within 150 min of operation about 97 and 87 % of Pb and Cd ions were removed from the solutions, respectively. Lead and Cd sorption curves were well fitted to the modified two-site Langmuir model. The adsorption capacities for Pb and Cd at optimum conditions were 182 and 70 mg g?1, respectively. The kinetics of Pb and Cd adsorption from aqueous solutions were analyzed by fitting the experimental data to a pseudo-second-order kinetic model and the rate constant was found to be 8.42 × 10?2 and 8.95 × 10?2 g mg?1 min?1 for Cd and Pb, respectively. The results revealed that sunflower can adsorb considerable amount of Pb and Cd ions and thus could be an economical method for the removal of Pb and Cd from aqueous systems.  相似文献

The enzyme assisted extraction conditions of polysaccharide from Cordyceps militaris mycelia were firstly investigated by kinetics analysis and the optimal operating was found to be: extraction temperature 40 °C; solid-solvent ratio 1:20; extraction pH 4.0; cellulase concentration 2.0%. The polysaccharide extraction yield was 5.99% under these optimized conditions. Furthermore, a fundamental investigation of the biosorption of Pb2+ from aqueous solution by the C. militaris polysaccharide was performed under batch conditions. The suitable pH (5.0), polysaccharide concentration (0.20 g L?1), initial Pb2+ concentration (300 mg L?1) and contact time (40 min) were outlined to enhance Pb2+ biosorption from aqueous medium. The Langmuir isotherm model and pseudo first order kinetic model fitted well to the data of Pb2+ biosorption, suggesting the biosorption of Pb2+ onto C. militaris polysaccharide was monolayer biosorption and physical adsorption might be the rate-limiting step that controlled the adsorption process. FTIR analysis showed that the main functional groups of C. militaris polysaccharide involved in adsorption process were carbonyl, carboxyl, and hydroxyl groups.  相似文献
