Dust particles affect the budgets of important traces gases by providing a surface on which heterogeneous reactions can occur. The uptake of soluble species on dust alters the physical, chemical, and optical properties and the overall ability of dust to act as cloud condensation and ice nuclei. It is commonly assumed that all measured chloride in particulate filter samples is associated with sea-salt particles and any chloride in dust occurs as the result of internal mixtures of sea-salt and dust particles, formed by cloud processing. Here we show high temporal resolution data demonstrating the direct uptake of chlorine by dust via heterogeneous reaction with HCl(g). This reaction added significant amounts of chlorine to the dust particles during a major dust storm, representing 4–9% of the individual dust particle mass. Up to 65±4% of the dust particles contained chlorine due to this heterogeneous reaction during the dust front. Ignoring this process leads to an overestimation of sea-salt concentrations from bulk measurements, and an underestimation of the degree of sea-salt aging. The uptake of chloride will change the pH and hygroscopic properties of the dust and thus can influence the budgets of other reactive gases. Including this heterogeneous process in atmospheric measurements and chemical transport models will improve our ability to predict the atmosphere's composition and radiation budget with greater accuracy.  相似文献

Samples from two strong homogeneous dust plumes from the Saharan desert reaching Izaña (Tenerife, Spain) in July and August 2005 were taken with a miniature impactor system and filter samplers. Size, aspect ratio and chemical composition of more than 22,000 individual particles were studied by scanning electron microscopy. The mineralogical phase composition of about 200 particles was investigated by transmission electron microscopy. In addition, the aerosol size distribution was measured with an optical particle spectrometer. In all samples, the aerosol was dominated by mineral dust with an average composition (by volume) of 64% silicates, 6% quartz, 5% calcium-rich particles, 14% sulfates, 1% hematite, 1% soot and 9% other carbonaceous material. Sulfate was found predominantly as coating on other particles with an average thickness of approximately 60 nm. The aerosol calcium content is correlated with the calcite concentrations of soils in the source region, highest values were observed for northern and central Algeria and Morocco. The average aspect ratio of the particles was 1.64. The distributions of the aspect ratios are parameterized by log-normal functions for modeling purpose. Single-scattering albedo (0.95) and asymmetry factor (0.74–0.81) was measured by polar aerosol photometry on filter samples using a light source resembling the solar spectrum. The apparent soot content of the sample (1 vol%) was determined by the same technique. From the mineralogical data, an average complex refractive index of 1.59–9×10−3i for visible light was derived. The imaginary part of the complex refractive index decreases with increasing particle size from −2.5×10−2i to <−10−3i, reflecting the decreasing hematite and soot contents. The imaginary part derived from optical measurements was −7×10−3i.  相似文献

Atmospheric aerosol particles in urban and mountain areas around Lhasa city (29.65°N, 91.13°E) in the Tibetan Plateau were collected in the summers of 1998 and 1999. The particles were analyzed with electron microscopes and an energy dispersive X-ray spectrometer. Individual particle morphology, elemental composition and mixture of sulfate and nitrate were investigated. In the urban area, soot particles emitted from vegetation burning were dominant. These particles were characterized by chain or aggregate morphologies, and an elemental composition of potassium and sulfur. Such particles were frequently detected in mountain areas out of the city, where they formed droplets acting as condensation nuclei. Quantitative estimation indicated that sulfur was accumulated onto the soot particles during their dispersion from the urban area to mountain areas. Sulfate and nitrate detections indicated that soot particles collected in the urban area did not contain nitrate and BaCl2-reactive sulfate, which revealed that the combination of sulfur and potassium in the particles was not K2SO4. In contrast, the particles dispersed to mountain areas contained BaCl2-reactive sulfate and some contained nitrate, suggesting that soot particles emitted from the urban area could increase the buffering capacity of aerosol particles and enhance the formation of particulate sulfate through heterogeneous conversion in the Tibetan atmosphere.  相似文献

A quantitative energy-dispersive electron probe X-ray microanalysis (ED-EPMA), namely low-Z (atomic number) particle EPMA, was used to characterize the chemical compositions of the individual aerosol particles collected at the Gosan supersite, Jeju Island, Korea, as a part of the Asian Pacific Regional Aerosol Characterization Experiment (ACE-Asia). On 4-10 April 2001 just before a severe dust storm arrived, seven sets of aerosol samples were obtained by a seven-stage May cascade impactor with a flow rate of 20 L/min. Overall 11,200 particles on stages 1-6 with cutoff diameters of 16, 8, 4, 2, 1, and 0.5 microm, respectively, were examined and classified based on their secondary electron images and X-ray spectra. In general, sea salt particles were the most frequently encountered, followed by mineral dust, organic carbon (OC)-like, (NH4)2SO4/NH4HSO4-containing, elemental carbon (EC)-like, Fe-rich, and K-rich particles. Sea salt and mineral dust particles had a higher relative abundance on stages 1-5, whereas OC-like, (NH4)2SO4/NH4HSO4-containing, Fe-rich, and K-rich particles were relatively abundant on stage 6. The analysis on relative number abundances of various particle types combined with 72-hr backward air mass trajectories indicated that a lot of reacted sea salt and reacted mineral dust (with airborne NOx and SO2 or their acidic products) and OC-like particles were carried by the air masses passing over the Yellow Sea (for sample "10 April") and many NH4HSO4/ (NH4)2SO4-containing particles were carried by the air masses passing over the Sea of Japan and Korea Strait (for samples "4-9 April"). It was concluded that the atmosphere over Jeju Island was influenced by anthropogenic SO2 and NOx, organic compounds, and secondary aerosols when Asian dust was absent.  相似文献

A large set of size-resolved aerosol samples was inspected with regard to their ion balance to shed light on how the aerosol acidity changes with particle size in the lower troposphere and what implications this might have for the atmospheric processing of aerosols. Quite different behaviour between the remote and more polluted environments could be observed. At the remote sites, practically the whole accumulation mode had cation-to-anion ratios clearly below unity, indicating that these particles were quite acidic. The supermicron size range was considerably less acidic and may in some cases have been close to neutral or even alkaline. An interesting feature common to the remote sites was a clear jump in the cation-to-anion ratio when going from the accumulation to the Aitken mode. The most likely reason for this was cloud processing which, via in-cloud sulphate production, makes the smallest accumulation-mode particles more acidic than the non-activated Aitken-mode particles. A direct consequence of the less acidic nature of the Aitken mode is that it can take up semi-volatile, water-soluble gases much easier than the accumulation mode. This feature may have significant implications for atmospheric cloud condensation nuclei production in remote environments. In rural and urban locations, the cation-to-anion ratio was close to unity over most of the accumulation mode, but increased significantly when going to either larger or smaller particle sizes. The high cation-to-anion ratios in the supermicron size range were ascribed to carbonate associated with mineral dust. The ubiquitous presence of carbonate in these particles indicates that they were neutral or alkaline, making them good sites for heterogeneous reactions involving acidic trace gases. The high cation-to-anion ratios in the Aitken mode suggest that these particles contained some water-soluble anions not detected by our chemical analysis. This is worth keeping in mind when investigating the hygroscopic properties or potential health effects of ultrafine particles in polluted environments.  相似文献

Direct observation of the mixing state of aerosol particles in a coastal urban city is critical to understand atmospheric processing and hygroscopic growth in humid air. Morphology, composition, and mixing state of individual aerosol particles from Macao, located south of the Pearl River Delta (PRD) and 100 km west of Hong Kong, were investigated using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy coupled with energy-dispersive X-ray spectrometry (TEM/EDX). SEM images show that soot and roughly spherical particles are prevalent in the samples. Based on the compositions of individual aerosol particles, aerosol particles with roughly spherical shape are classified into coarse Na-rich and fine S-rich particles. TEM/EDX indicates that each Na-rich particle consists of a Na-S core and NaNO3 shell. Even in the absence of heavy pollution, the marine sea salt particles were completely depleted in chloride, and Na-related sulfates and nitrates were enriched in Macao air. The reason could be that SO2 from the polluted PRD and ships in the South China Sea and NO2 from vehicles in the city sped up the chlorine depletion in sea salt through heterogeneous reactions. Fresh soot particles from vehicular emissions mainly occur near curbside. However, there are many aged soot particles in the sampling site surrounded by main roads 200 to 400 m away, suggesting that the fresh soot likely underwent a quick aging. Overall, secondary nitrates and sulfates internally mixed with soot and sea salt particles can totally change their surface hygroscopicity in coastal cities.  相似文献

Airborne measurements of the growth of the marine accumulation mode after multiple cycles through stratocumulus cloud are presented. The nss-sulphate cloud residual mode was log-normal in spectral shape and it’s mode radius was observed to progressively increase in size from 0.78 to 0.94 μm over 155 min of air parcel evolution through the cloudy marine boundary layer. The primary reason for this observed growth was thought to result from aqueous phase oxidation of SO2 to aerosol sulphate in activated cloud drops. An aqueous phase aerosol–cloud-chemistry model was used to simulate this case study of aerosol growth and was able to closely reproduce the observed growth. The model simulations illustrate that aqueous phase oxidation of SO2 in cloud droplets was able to provide enough additional sulphate mass to increase the size of activated aerosol. During a typical cloud cycle simulation, ≈4.6 nmoles kg-1air (0.44 μg m-3) of sulphate mass was produced with ≈70% of sulphate production occurring in cloud droplets activated upon sea-salt nuclei and ≈30% occurring upon nss-sulphate nuclei, even though sea-salt nuclei contributed less than 15% to the activated droplet population. The high fraction of nss-sulphate mass internally mixed with sea-salt aerosol suggests that aqueous phase oxidation of SO2 in cloud droplets activated upon sea-salt nuclei is the dominant nss-sulphate formation mechanism and that sea-salt aerosol provides the primary chemical sink for SO2 in the cloudy marine boundary layer.  相似文献

Size-resolved aerosol particle samples in the size range 0.1–10 μm aerodynamic diameter were collected in the years 2003 and 2004 at an urban background station in Mainz, Germany. Size, morphology, chemical composition and mixing state of more than 5400 individual particles of 7 selected sampling days were analyzed in detail by scanning electron microscopy and energy-dispersive X-ray microanalysis. In addition, transmission electron microscopy, aerosol mass spectrometry and atomic force microscopy were applied to obtain detailed information about the mixing state of the particles. The fine particle fraction (diameter<1 μm) is always dominated by complex secondary aerosol particles (⩾90% by number) independent from air mass origin. These particles are complex internal mixtures of ammonium and sodium sulfates, nitrates, and organic material. Between 20% and 40% of the complex secondary aerosol particles contain soot inclusions. The composition of the coarse particle fraction (>1 μm diameter) is strongly dependant on air mass history with variable abundances of complex secondary aerosol particles, aged sea salt, silicates, silicate mixtures, calcium sulfates, calcium sulfate/carbonate mixtures, calcium nitrate/carbonate mixtures, biological particles, and external soot.The dominance of complex secondary aerosol particles shows that reduction of the precursor gases is a major goal for successful reduction strategies for PM10.  相似文献

Box model studies have been performed to study the role of aqueous phase chemistry with regard to halogen activation for marine and urban clouds and the marine aerosol as well. Different chemical pathways leading to halogen activation in diluted cloud droplets and highly concentrated sea salt aerosol particles are investigated. The concentration of halides in cloud droplets is significantly smaller than in sea-salt particles, and hence different reaction sequences control the overall chemical conversions. In diluted droplets radical chemistry involving OH, NO(3), Cl/Cl(2)(-)/ClOH(-), and Br/Br(2)(-)/BrOH(-) gains in importance and pH independent pathways lead to the release of halogens from the particle phase whereas the chemistry in aerosol particles with high electrolyte concentrations is controlled by non-radical reactions at high ionic strengths and relatively low pH values.For the simulation of halogen activation in tropospheric clouds and aqueous aerosol particles in different environments a halogen module was developed including both gas and aqueous phase processes of halogen containing species. This module is coupled to a base mechanism consisting of RACM (Regional Atmospheric Chemistry Mechanism) and the Chemical Aqueous Phase Radical Mechanism CAPRAM 2.4 (MODAC-mechanism). Phase exchange is described by the resistance model by Chemistry of Multiphase Atmospheric Systems, NATO ASI Series, 1986.It can be shown that under cloud conditions the bromine atom is mainly produced by OH initiated reactions, i.e. its concentration maximum is reached at noon. In contrast, the concentration level of chlorine atoms is linked to NO(3) radical chemistry leading to a smaller amplitude between day and night time concentrations.The contribution of radical processes to halogen atom formation in the particle phase is evident, e.g. by halogen atoms which undergo direct phase transfer. Furthermore, the application of the multiphase model for initial concentrations for sea-salt aerosols shows that the particle phase can act as a main source of halogen containing molecules (Cl(2), BrCl, Br(2)) which are photolysed in the gas phase to yield halogen atoms (about 70% of all Cl sources and more than 99% for Br).  相似文献

This paper describes the results of a study to determine the total mass and the mass distribution of atmospheric aerosols, especially that mass associated with particles greater than 10 μm diameter. This study also determined what fraction of the total aerosol mass a standard high-volume air sampler collects and what fraction and size interval settle out on a dust fall plate. A special aerosol sampling system was designed for this study to obtain representative samples of large airborne particles. A suburban sampling site was selected because no local point sources of aerosols existed nearby. Samples were collected under various conditions of wind velocity and direction to obtain measurements on different types of aerosols.

Study measurements show that atmospheric particulate matter has a bimodal mass distribution. Mass associated with large particles mainly ranged from 5 to 100 μm in size, while mass associated with small particles ranged from an estimated 0.03 to 5 μm in size. Combined, these two distributions produced a bimodal mass distribution with a minimum around 5 μm diameter. The high-volume air sampler was found to collect most of the total aerosol mass, not just that fraction normally considered suspended particulate. Dust fall plates did not provide a good or very useful measure of total aerosol mass. The two fundamental processes of aerosol formation, condensation and dispersion appear to account for the formation of a bimodal mass distribution in both natural and anthropogenic aerosols. Particle size distribution measurements frequently are in error because representative samples of large airborne particles are not obtained. Considering this descrepancy, air pollution regulations should specify or be based upon an upper particle size limit.  相似文献

This work explores the utility of time-of-flight static secondary-ion mass spectrometry (TOF-SIMS) for the analysis of the surface organic layer on individual atmospheric aerosol particles. The surface sensitivity and minimal fragmentation available with TOF-SIMS suggest that it can be a powerful tool for the examination of the organic and inorganic species on the surface of individual particles. Cascade impactors were used to collect aerosol from summer 2000 Montana forest fires, winter snowmobile samples in Yellowstone National Park, Hawaiian lava and sea salt, from an Asian Dust event reaching Salt Lake City, Utah in April 2001 and from Salt Lake Valley summer urban aerosol. TOF-SIMS analysis and multivariate statistical techniques combined gave chemical and morphological information about the particles. Surfaces of the aerosol from forest fires, snowmobile exhaust, and sea salt were all dominated by aliphatic hydrocarbons and their amphiphilic derivatives. Each source showed a different organic chemical signature. The extent and composition of the organics layer which typically covers the surface of atmospheric particles are expected to effect all of the surface related aerosol properties such as health effects, the ability of the particle to activate and form cloud droplets, and the aggregation of particles as well as reactions between the particle and gas phase species.  相似文献

Deokjeok Island is located off the west coast of the Korean Peninsula and is a suitable place to monitor the long-range transport of air pollutants from the Asian continent. In addition to pollutants, Asian dust particles are also transported to the island during long-range transport events. Episodic transport of dust and secondary particles was observed during intensive measurements in the spring (March 31-April 11) and fall (October 13-26) of 2009. In this study, the chemical characteristics of long-range-transported particles were investigated based on highly time-resolved ionic measurements with a particle-into-liquid system coupled with an online ion chromatograph (PILS-IC) that simultaneously measures concentrations of cations (Li+, Na , NH4+, K+, Ca2+, Mg2+) and anions (F-, C1-, NO3-, SO42-). The aerosol optical thickness (AOT) distribution retrieved by the modified Bremen Aerosol Retrieval (M-BAER) algorithm from moderate resolution imaging spectroradiometer (MODIS) satellite data confirmed the presence of a thick aerosol plume coming from the Asian continent towards the Korean peninsula. Seven distinctive events involving the long-range transport (LRT) of aerosols were identified and studied, the chemical components of which were strongly related to sector sources. Enrichment of acidic secondary aerosols on mineral dust particles, and even of sea-salt components, during transport was observed in this study. Backward trajectory, chemical analyses, and satellite aerosol retrievals identified two distinct events: a distinctively high [Ca2++Mg2]/[Na+] ratio (>2.0), which was indicative of a preprocessed mineral dust transport event, and a low [Ca2++Mg2+]/[Na+] ratio (<2.0), which was indicative of severe aging of sea-salt components on the processed dust particles. Particulate C1- was depleted by up to 85% in spring and 50% in the fall. A consistent fraction of carbonate replacement (FCR) averaged 0.53 in spring and 0.55 in the fall. Supporting evidences of C1- enrichment on the marine boundary layer prior to a dust front were also found. Supplemental materials are available for this article. Measurements of size-resolved particle number concentrations during the Asian Pacific Regional Aerosol Characterization Experiment (ACE-Asia) field campaign were made at the Gosan super-site, South Korea. In East Asia, dust and precipitation phenomena play a crucial role in atmospheric environment and climate studies because they are major sources and sinks of atmospheric aerosols, especially in the springtime. Total Ozone Mapping Spectrometer (TOMS) Aerosol Index and backward trajectories are analyzed to investigate the spatial and temporal evolution of dust storms. The size distributions between dust and non-dust periods and times with and without precipitation are compared. In order to understand the temporal evolution of the aerosol size distribution during dust and precipitation events, a simple aerosol dynamics model is employed. The model predicted and observed size distributions are compared with the measured data. The results show that the coarse mode particle number concentrations increase by a factor of 10–16 during dust events. During precipitation, however, particles in the coarse mode are scavenged by impaction mechanism. It is found that the larger particles are more efficiently scavenged. The degree of scavenged particle varies depending on the rainfall rate, raindrop size distribution and aerosol size distribution.  相似文献

Vehicular traffic contributes significantly to the aerosol number concentrations at the local scale by emitting primary soot particles and forming secondary nucleated nanoparticles. Because of their potential health effects, more attention is paid to the traffic induced aerosol number distributions.The aim of this work is to explain the phenomenology leading to the formation and the evolution of the aerosol number distributions in the vicinity of a vehicle exhaust using numerical modelling. The emissions are representative of those of a light-duty diesel truck without a diesel particle filter. The atmospheric flow is modelled with a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) code to describe the dispersion of pollutants at the local scale. The CFD code, coupled to a modal aerosol model (MAM) describing the aerosol dynamics, is used to model the tailpipe plume of a vehicle with emissions corresponding to urban driving conditions. On the basis of available measurements in Schauer et al. (1999), three surrogate species are chosen to treat the semi-volatile organic compounds in the emissions.The model simulates the formation of the aerosol distribution in the exhaust plume of a vehicle as follows. After emission to the atmosphere, particles are formed by nucleation of sulphuric acid and water vapour depending strongly on the thermodynamic state of the atmosphere and on the dilution conditions. The semi-volatile organic compounds are critical for the rapid growth of nanoparticles through condensation. The semi-volatile organic compounds are also important for the evolution of primary soot particles and can contribute substantially to their chemical composition.The most influential parameters for particle formation are the sulphur fuel content, the semi-volatile organic emissions and also the mass and initial diameter of the soot particles emitted. The model is able to take into account the complex competition between nucleation, condensation and dilution, as well as the interactions among the different aerosol modes. This type of model is a useful tool to better understand the dynamics leading to the formation of traffic induced aerosol distributions. However, some key issues such as the turbulence in the exhaust plume and in the wake of the car, the magnitude and chemical composition of semi-volatile organic emissions and the possible nucleation of organic species need to be investigated further to improve our understanding of ultrafine particle formation.  相似文献

One of the important cohesive forces acting on the precipitated layer in an electrostatic precipitator Is that due to the effect of the electric field established in the air gaps between adjacent particles by the corona current as it flows through the layer. A theoretical expression for this force is developed for an idealized dust layer which takes into account the increase in effective contact area between adjacent particles due to elastic deformation and the limiting of the electric field in the airgap to a maximum allowable value. It is shown that the cohesive force is approximately proportional to the electric field established across the layer. This relationship is in general agreement with measurements made in the laboratory using industrially produced dust samples.  相似文献

Asian aerosols in elevated layers over the Pacific Ocean were sampled with NASA wire-impactors and a FSSP optical particle spectrometer-probe aboard the NASA DC-8 aircraft in early March 1994. Strong variations in aerosol properties, primarily aerosol concentration, lead to derived mid-visible extinctions between 0.003 and 0.5/km. FSSP data usually identified two size-modes. The larger ‘coarse mode’ (radii of 1–3 μm) was assumed to be dust. The composition of the smaller ‘accumulation mode’ (radii of 0.1–0.3 μm) was based on the analysis of the wire-impactor samples, as significant amounts of soot reduce mid-visible single scattering albedos to the 0.87–0.92 range.Radiative forcing simulations investigated the impact of Asian outflow aerosol on atmospheric radiative fluxes and heating rates. Only events with larger optical depths were important. In those events the solar attenuation of the smaller size mode dominated the net-flux losses at the surface, with values similar those of urban-polluted and/or biomass burning aerosol types (as observed during the TARFOX and INDOEX field experiments). In contrast, changes to net-fluxes at the top of the atmosphere (ToA) for outflow cases are less negative—primarily due to the added greenhouse effect of the dust component. For the climate of the Earth-Atmosphere-System, ToA net-flux losses are considered a cooling, ToA net-flux gains are associated with warming. Weak cooling is determined for the Asian outflow cases under cloud-free conditions. The addition of a reported 50% cloud cover below the aerosol layer causes a switch to slight warming.  相似文献

A major source of particle number emissions is road traffic. However, scientific knowledge concerning secondary particle formation and growth of ultrafine particles within vehicle exhaust plumes is still very limited. Volatile nanoparticle formation and subsequent growth conditions were analyzed here to gain a better understanding of "real-world" dilution conditions. Coupled computational fluid dynamics and aerosol microphysics models together with measured size distributions within the exhaust plume of a diesel car were used. The impact of soot particles on nucleation, acting as a condensational sink, and the possible role of low-volatile organic components in growth were assessed. A prescribed reduction of soot particle emissions by 2 orders of magnitude (to capture the effect of a diesel particle filter) resulted in concentrations of nucleation-mode particles within the exhaust plume that were approximately 1 order of magnitude larger. Simulations for simplified sulfuric acid-water vapor gas-oil containing nucleation-mode particles show that the largest particle growth is located in a recirculation zone in the wake of the car. Growth of particles within the vehicle exhaust plume up to detectable size depends crucially on the relationship between the mass rate of gaseous precursor emissions and rapid dilution. Chassis dynamometer measurements indicate that emissions of possible hydrocarbon precursors are significantly enhanced under high engine load conditions and high engine speed. On the basis of results obtained for a diesel passenger car, the contributions from light diesel vehicles to the observed abundance of measured nucleation-mode particles near busy roads might be attributable to the impact of two different time scales: (1) a short one within the plume, marked by sufficient precursor emissions and rapid dilution; and (2) a second and comparatively long time scale resulting from the mix of different precursor sources and the impact of atmospheric chemistry.  相似文献

Under the auspices of Project METROMEX, studies of visibility de-teoration downwind of St. Louis were conducted during July-August 1974-1975. Estimates of horizontal visual range, standard meteorological data, and aerosol characteristics within the mixing layer were acquired upwind, over, and downwind of the metropolitan area by means of airborne transects. Aerosol number, surface, and volume distributions for particles between 0.025-2.5 µm were generated from the airborne measurement of Aitken nucleus concentrations, cloud condensation nuclei, and aerosols detected in situ with optical probes. Visibility reduction amounting to 50% of prevailing regional upwind visibilities consistently occurs at a distance corresponding to 2-3 hours travel time downwind for an air parcel moving with the mean transport wind. The regions of visibility minimum do not coincide with locations of maximum Aitken nucleus concentrations, but rather correspond in space and time to increased values of cloud condensation nuclei and increased numbers of particles in the 0.1-2.5 µm diameter range. A quantitative single-particle analytical technique, called low-Z particle electron probe X-ray microanalysis, combined with the utilization of their morphological information on individual particles, was applied to characterize six aerosol samples collected in one Korean city, Incheon, during March 9–15, 2006. The collected supermicron aerosol particles were classified based on their chemical species and morphology on a single-particle basis. Many different particle types were identified and their emission source, transport, and reactivity in the air were elucidated. In the samples, particles in the “soil-derived particles” group were the most abundant, followed by “reacted sea-salts”, “reacted CaCO3-containing particles”, “genuine sea-salts”, “reacted sea-salts + others”, “Fe-containing particles”, “anthropogenic organics”, (NH4)2SO4, “K-containing particles”, and “fly ash”. The application of this single-particle analysis, fully utilizing their chemical compositional and morphological data of individual particles, clearly revealed the different characteristics of the six aerosol samples. For samples S3 and S5, which were sampled during two Asian dust storm events, almost all particles were of soil origin that had not experienced chemical modification and that did not entrain sea-salts during their long-range transport. For sample S1, collected at an episodic period of high PM10 concentration and haze, anthropogenic, secondary, and soil-derived particles emitted from local sources were predominant. For samples S2, S4, and S6, which were collected on average spring days with respect to their PM10 concentrations, marine originated particles were the most abundant. Sample S2 seems to have been strongly influenced by emissions from the Yellow Sea and Korean peninsula, sample S4 had the minimum anthropogenic influence among the four samples collected in the absence of any Asian dust storm event, and sample S6 seems to have entrained air pollutants that had been transported from mainland China over the Yellow Sea to Korea.  相似文献
