Samples representing the damselfishes (Perciformes: Pomacentridae) Stegastes nigricans, Chrysiptera biocellata, C. glauca, and C. leucopoma from North Male Atoll, Republic of Maldives, and Guam, Southern Marianas, were surveyed electrophoretically. A sample representing C. leucopoma from Ngemelis Island, Republic of Palau, was included in the analysis to provide a within-Micronesia comparison. On average, products of 23 presumptive protein-coding loci were examined in each sample. In comparisons of Maldivian and Guamanian samples, absolute or virtually fixed allelic differences were detected at: (1) ADA * and PEPS * for Stegastes nigricans; (2) ADA *, AAT-1 *, AAT-2 *, and mMDH * for C. biocellata, and; (3) ADA *, AAT-1 *, and AAT-2 * for C. glauca. At three polymorphic loci, ADA *, sMDH-1 *, and sMDH-2 *, similar allele frequencies were found in Palauan and Guamanian samples representing C. leucopoma, suggesting that these samples share a gene pool. Significantly different allele frequencies at ADA * and sMDH-1 * and a virtually fixed allelic difference at sMDH-2 * were detected between the Maldivian samples and each of the Micronesian samples representing C. leucopoma. The observed patterns of allele frequency differentiation suggest that Maldivian and Micronesian samples of each of the four study species represent separate demes.  相似文献

Growth and feeding rates of two tintinnid species, Favellaazorica and Favellataraikaensis, were determined under various concentrations of the dinoflagellate Heterocapsacircularisquama which has been reported as highly toxic to shellfish. Mean growth rates of F. azorica and F. taraikaensis on a diet of H.circularisquama (ca. 102 cells ml−1) were 2.15 and 1.97 doublings d−1, respectively. These values are similar to those on a diet of Heterocapsatriquetra which is suitable food for various zooplankton. However, growth rates of both tintinnid species decrease with increasing concentrations of >103 cells ml−1 of H. circularisquama. In particular, H. circularisquama under conditions of >103 cells ml−1 caused mortality in F.taraikaensis, probably due to toxins. Clearance and ingestion rates of F. azorica on H. circularisquama were 4.1 to 27.5 μl ind−1 h−1 and 1.5 to 28.7 cells ind−1 h−1, respectively, at concentrations of <104 cells ml−1 and those of F. taraikaensis were 0.9 to 22.1 μl ind−1 h−1 and 0.1 to 13.0 cells ind−1 h−1, respectively, at concentrations of <103 cells ml−1. Both clearance and ingestion rates on H.circularisquama were higher for replicates fed on H.triquetra. Daily grazing impact of the two species of Favella on the initial stage of a bloom of H.circularisquama were estimated to reach 6 to 50% of H. circularisquama at a concentration of 540 cells ml−1, indicating that grazing by tintinnids such as Favella spp. may significantly regulate the initial stages of blooms of H. circularisquama. The variability of 14 enzyme-coding genes has been analysed in samples from 19 populations of the oyster Ostrea edulis L., collected along the Atlantic and Mediterranean coasts of Europe. We found an abundance of clines, which appeared at 8 loci, including the most polymorphic (AP-2 *, ARK *, EST-4 *, MDH-2 *, ME-1 *, 6PGH *, PGI * and PGM *). Another 6 loci (ALDH *, EST-3 *, EST-5 *, IDH-2 *, MDH-1 *, ME-2 *) exhibited V-shaped patterns of gene-frequency variation, with clines at one or both sides of the Straits of Gibraltar. The observation of coincident clines at many loci can be explained by a model of secondary intergradation. The geographical location of the midpoints of the clines and V-shaped patterns suggests the existence of two ancient Atlantic and Mediterranean oyster stocks which became differentiated in allopatry and subsequently merged. Clines observed along Atlantic and/or Mediterranean coasts at the loci with V-shaped patterns must have arisen independently. The large heterogeneity observed in the levels of gene differentiation (G ST ) across loci (G ST ranged from 0.008 to 0.290) and important differences in estimates of gene flow obtained by different methods suggest that the populations of O. edulis are not in genetic equilibrium. Lack of population equilibrium can be due to natural selection and/or restrictions to gene flow. The average among-population variability was higher than in other oyster species that do not show incubatory habits, and represented 8.8% of the total heterozygosity. Levels of intrapopulation variability were lowest in populations from the North Atlantic, suggesting low population sizes in that area.  相似文献

Samples of yellowfin tuna (Thunnus albacares) collected in 1991 and 1992 from the western, central and eastern regions of the Pacific Ocean were examined for genetic variability. Four polymorphic allozyme loci (ADA *, FH *, GPI-S * and GPI-F *) were examined in all samples and a fifth polymorphism (GDA *) was examined in western and central samples only. Samples were also screened for mitochondrial DNA variation following restriction analysis by two enzymes (BcII and EcoRI) detecting polymorphic cut sites. Eighteen mtDNA haplotypes were revealed, with an overall nucleon diversity of 0.678. A subset of individuals screened for eight restriction enzymes had an overall nucleon diversity of 0.724 and a mean nucleotide diversity per sample of 0.359%. No significant spatial heterogeneity was detected for alleles at the ADA *, FH *, GPI-S * and GDA * loci nor for the mtDNA haplotypes. Significant heterogeneity was detected for GPI-F *. At this locus, the two eastern samples (southern California and northern Mexico) were not significantly different from each other but were significantly different (P<0.001) from the five western/central samples (Philippines, Coral Sea, Kiribati, Hawaii-91 and Hawaii-92). A survey of intraspecific allozymic variation among samples of the damselfishes Chrysiptera cyanea and Pomacentrus coelestis collected from Palau and Okinawa revealed levels of genetic divergence far in excess of estimates reported previously for populations of coral reef fishes. Absolute or nearly fixed differences in allele frequencies were detected at ADA *, sMDH-2 *, MEP-1 *, PEPB *, PEP-LT * and sSOD *, and at sAAT *, GPI-A *, LDH-1 *, and PEPB *, among the geographic samples of C. cyanea and P. coelestis, respectively. Examination of allele frequencies at most other loci (26 for C. cyanea; 24 for P. coelestis) revealed slight differentiation or identical fixation among the geographic samples. The observed patterns of allele frequency distribution suggest the existence of localized demes of these fishes: these demes may be cryptic and/or incipient species. Whether or not speciation is incipient, the observed patterns of allozymic and isozymic variability suggest that natural selection is a factor in the maintenance of population substructuring of the study species. Pronounced allelic differences were highly concentrated at a small number of loci: strongly bimodal frequency distributions of loci relative to their genetic identities (I) were observed for among-population comparisons in both study species. Allozymes encoded by the PEPB * locus in samples of the noncongeners from Palau exhibited identical electrophoretic mobilities. In Palauan P. coelestis, mSOD * is expressed but sSOD * apparently is not, whereas in Okinawan P. coelestis, both mSOD * and sSOD * are expressed.  相似文献

Specimens of Chlamys opercularis, Modiolus modiolus, Mytilus edulis, Crassostrea gigas, Scrobicularia plana and Mya arenaria were exposed to both gradual (sinusoidal) and abrupt (square-wave) salinity fluctuations and measurements made of osmotic, Na+, Mg2+ and Ca2+ concentrations in the hemolymph and where applicable in the mantle fluid. In both sinusoidal and square-wave regimes fluctuating between 100 and 50% seawater (100%=ca. 32 S), the hemolymph Na+, Mg2+, Ca2+ and osmotic concentrations followed the concentrations of the external medium in Chlamys opercularis. The hemolymph and mantle fluid osmotic Na+, Mg2+ and Ca2+ concentrations of Modiolus modiolus, Mytilus edulis, Crassostrea gigas and S. plana followed those of the external medium as long as the molluscs' shell valves remained open. There were no changes in the ionic or osmotic concentrations of the hemolymph or mantle fluid of any of these species during periods of shell-valve closure. The hemolymph osmotic, Na+ and Mg2+ concentrations of wedged-open Modiolus modiolus, Mytilus edulis, C. gigas and S. plana followed those of the external medium. Hemolymph Ca2+ concentrations showed a damped response in C. gigas and Mytilus edulis. The hemolymph osmotic, Na+, Ca2+ and Mg2+ concentrations of Mya arenaria fluctuated in a similar manner to the external medium, but were damped. Wedged-open Mytilus edulis exposed to fluctuating salinity and supplied with a constant supply of 10 mM Ca2+ showed greater changes in hemolymph ionic and osmotic concentrations than M. edulis exposed to the same salinity fluctuation without a constant Ca2+ supply. Chlamys opercularis and Modiolus modiolus survived in a 50% seawater minimum sinusoidal salinity fluctuation for 10 days; wedged-open M. modiolus survived only 3 days. Burrowing had no effect on the osmotic, Na+, Mg2+ or Ca2+ concentrations of the hemolymph of Mya arenaria or S. plana exposed to fluctuating salinities. The effects of pulsed current electromagnetic fields (PCEMF) on human peripheral lymphocytes sister chromatid exchanges (SCE), and micronuclei (MN) frequencies were investigated. PCEMF were produced by 8/20 μs pulsed current generation with two model types, a long straight wire and a solenoid. Human peripheral lymphocyte samples were exposed to PCEMF (a pulse per min, and continuing for 1 h). SCE and MN assays were used to evaluate the genotoxic effects. The results indicated that SCE and MN incidences correlated positively with B m and dB/dt. For the long straight wire model, as B m reached 8.48 × 10?2 T and dB/dt = 1.06 × 104 T s?1, the effect was significant. As B m reached 1.70 × 10?1 T and dB/dt = 2.13 × 104 T s?1, the effect was marked. For the solenoid model, the conditions of significant effect were B m = 0.264 T and dB/dt = 3.30 × 103 T s?1 and B m = 1.32 T and dB/dt = 1.650 × 104 T s?1. Data indicated that dB/dt was an important factor in increasing the frequencies of MN and SCE in human peripheral lymphocytes.  相似文献

The uptake of several species of bacteria by the common mussel Mytilus edulis (L.) and the subsequent fate of some polymers of the bacteria have been investigated in a study carried out during 1981. Bacteria (Escherichia coli, Micrococcus luteus, M. roseus, Bacillus cereus, Staphylococcus aureus and a marine pseudomonad, 1-1-1) were radiolabelled by growth in medium containing 3H-thymidine and the uptake of bacteria by Mytilus edulis was monitored. Labelled and unlabelled bacteria, at initial concentrations of 0.5 to 1x107 bacteria ml-1, were cleared at similar, exponential rates with no significant difference in the rates for different bacteria: 90% of bacteria were cleared in a mean time of 1.93±0.12 h (SEM, n=63). Those bacteria with cell walls which were sensitive to M. edulis lysozyme were rapidly degraded by the mussel and 3H-labelled DNA was released in a form not precipitable by 10% trichloroacetic acid. Lysozyme-resistant bacteria (Micrococcus roseus and S. aureus) were cleared from suspension by Mytilus edulis but most were rejected intact. By measuring the rate of release of 3H-thymidine-labelled material from the mussel the rate of degradation of lysozyme-sensitive bacteria by M. edulis was found. For different bacteria the degradation rate varied from approx 2x108 to 27x108 bacteria h-1 with an overall mean of 10x108 bacteria h-1. A thymidine- and diaminopimelicacid-requiring auxotroph of E. coli was radiolabelled with 3H-thymidine, 3H-diaminopimelic acid or 14C-glucose and fed to M. edulis. Bacteria were cleared and degraded by the mussel; 3H-diaminopimelic acid-labelled or 14C-glucose-labelled polymers were retained, whereas 3H-thymidine-labelled polymers were released into the surrounding water. Extracts of the digestive gland of M. edulis degraded lysozyme-sensitive bacteria to release 3H-thymidine-labelled material, but did not release 3H-thymidine-labelled material from lysozyme-resistant bacteria. It is concluded that M. edulis can select lysozymesensitive bacteria for subsequent processing and discriminate between bacterial polymers to reject DNA. Also, bacteria could provide a substantial fraction of the carbon requirement of the mussel.  相似文献

Persistent organic pollutants (POPs) were recorded in sediment and fish samples collected from the western coast of Alexandria. Total hydrocarbons (aliphatic+PAHs ) in sediment ranged from 683.8 to 34670.1 ng g ?1 with an average of 9286.9 ng g ?1. The sum of C16–C34 of aliphatic fractions was<4000?ng g;?1, indicating the presence of a fresh petroleum source. For all sediments, the anthracene/phenanthrene ratio was>0.1, suggesting the dominance of a pyrolytic source. Total aliphatics in different fish species ranged from 253 to 11?132 ng g;?1, while total PAHs ranged from 3862 to 35?746 ng g;?1 wet weight. Benzo[a]pyrene was the most dominant PAH fraction ranged from 1902.7 to 32 905.5 with an average of 9464.5?ng g;?1 wet weight in all fish species. Concentrations of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) ranged from 0.79 to 64.9?ng g;?1 with an average 12.14?ng g;?1 wet weight. The concentrations of organochlorines in fish species (Euthynnus alleferatus, Scomberomorus commerson, Sphyraena Sphyraena, Diplodus vulgaris, and Alepes djedaba) decreased following the order: PCBs>DDTs>HCHs>total cyclodienes. Concentrations of DDTs in fish tissues ranged from 4.89 to 36.37 ng g?1 with an average of 16.4?ng g;?1 wet weight. The concentrations of total HCHs ranged from 0.3 to 65.7?ng g;?1 with an average of 16.35?ng g;?1. Growth and herbivory of heterotrophic dinoflagellates (Gymnodinium sp.) from the Weddell Sea and the Weddell/Scotia Confluence were studied in 1988 in 100-liter microcosms. The microcosms were screened through 200-µm or 20-µm mesh nets and incubated for 12 d at 1 °C under artificial light. Mean cell volume of dinoflagellates was 1 000 to 1 500µm3, and that of their phytoplankton prey 360 to 430µm3. Dinoflagellate growth rate followed a Holling type II functional response, with a maximum growth rate of 0.3 d–1 and half-saturation food concentrations of 1.0µg chlorophylla l–1, 50µg C l–1, or 1 500 cells ml–1. Carbon budgets based on14CO2 assimilation and biomasses of phytoplankton and heterotrophic dinoflagellates suggested a balance between phytoplankton grazing loss and dinoflagellate consumption, assuming a dinoflagellate carbon conversion efficiency of 40%. Applying this to the functional response yielded estimates of maximum ingestion rate (0.8µg Cµg–1 C d–1, or 6 pg C dinoflagellate–1 h–1) and maximum clearance (0.8 to 1.2 × 105 body volumes h–1, or 80 to 120 nl ind.–1 h–1). The microcosm experiments suggested that heterotrophic dinoflagellates may contribute significantly to maintenance of low phytoplankton biomass in the Southern Ocean.  相似文献

Diel changes in phytoplankton photosynthetic efficiency in Brackish waters   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
From 18 to 23 September 1974, investigations on the diel changes in phytoplankton were carried out in the Baltic Sea. Every 4 h, water samples were collected from 2 and 15 m, and PO4, chlorophyll a, temperature, salinity, pH, phytoplankton composition and phytoplankton light photosynthesis relationship were determined. Continuous measurements of surface irradiance and some estimations of zooplankton were also made. P B (photosynthesis per unit chlorophyll a at low light levels of 2·10-2 cal cm-2 min-1) revealed only random variation during the sampling period, i.e., 1.0 to 1.6 mg C (mg chlorophyll a)-1 h-1. P m B (Light-saturated photosynthesis per unit of chlorophyll a) displayed pronounced diel fluctuations with the highest value of about 6 mg C (mg chlorophyll a)-1 h-1 around noon, and the lowest value of about 2.5 mg C (mg chlorophyll a)-1 h-1 during the night, during which latter period the value of P m B was more or less constant. Reasons for the diel fluctuations are discussed, and an equation which describes these fluctuations is proposed. Using this equation, the daily phytoplankton production estimated in incubators by a previously described method can be corrected for the time of day at which samples are collected.  相似文献

Reproduction and growth of the dominant copepods Calanus finmarchicus, C. glacialis, C. hyperboreus and Pseudocalanus minutus were studied on transects across the sea ice zone of the northern Barents Sea in May and June 1997. C. glacialis and C. finmarchicus were numerically dominant and also the largest component of the biomass. C. hyperboreus was rather rare. Moderate levels of phytoplankton and eventually high concentrations of ice algae supported maximum egg production rates of 53.6 and 48.5 eggs female–1 day–1 of C. glacialis in May and June, respectively. Results of incubation experiments were supported by a tremendous abundance of C. glacialis eggs in the water column ranging from 7×103 to 4.4×104 m–2 in May and from 9.8×103 to a maximum of 9.7×104 m–2 in June. In contrast, C. finmarchicus spawned only in the vicinity of the ice edge, at a maximum rate of 30 eggs female–1 day–1. Egg sacs of P. minutus were often observed in the preserved samples, but contained only few eggs, which may be due to loss during sampling. The presence of considerable concentrations of young stages in May and June indicated successful recruitment of C. glacialis and P. minutus. Back calculation using published stage duration estimates indicates March/April as the begin of the reproductive and growth period for these species under the first-year ice of the Barents Sea. Hence, secondary production in the study area starts at the same time as in open water regions and polynyas in the northern North Atlantic. Although the role of ice algae in the nutrition of copepods was not clarified here, the significant relationship between phytoplankton chlorophyll and egg production of C. glacialis suggests that high reproductive activity has already been achieved at moderate food concentrations.Communicated by O. Water chestnut peel, an agricultural bio-waste, was used as a biosorbent for removal of rhodamine B (RhB), basic textile dye, from an aqueous solution. The effects of various experimental parameters were studied. The equilibrium data correlated well with a Freundlich isotherm (R2 = 0.98–0.99) followed by a Halsey isotherm model (R2 = 0.98–0.99) which indicated heterogeneity of the adsorbent surface and multilayer adsorption of RhB dye onto the water chestnut peel waste (WCPW). High correlation coefficients (R2 = 0.99) together with close agreement between experimental qe (0.4–1.7 mg g?1) and calculated qe (0.4–2.5 mg g?1) suggested that the adsorption process followed pseudo-second-order kinetics, with k2 values in the range of 52–3.4 × 10?1 g mg?1 min?1 at different concentrations. The overall mechanism of adsorption was controlled by both liquid-film and intra-particle diffusions. The negative values of change in Gibb's free energy (?ΔG0 = 19.2–29.2 kJ mol?1) and positive values of change in enthalpy (ΔH0 = 30.9–117.6 kJ mol?1) revealed the process to be spontaneous and endothermic. WCPW was found to be an effective adsorbent for removal of RhB, a cationic dye, from an aqueous solution.  相似文献

Hydromineral regulation was studied by examining the response to different environmental salinities in two Baltic brackish-water (BW) teleosts—a species of marine ancestry, Myoxocephalus scorpius (L.), and a glacial relict, M. quadricornis (L.). M. scorpius tolerated fresh water (FW) and M. quadricornis sea water (SW) for only about 24 h, but the survival time of M. scorpius in SW and M. quadricornis in FW was one to several weeks. M. scorpius seems able to balance plasma ionic concentrations in salinities down to about 2 to 3. Death of M. scorpius in FW was associated with partial haemolysis, increased volume of red blood cells (RBC), increased plasma K+ concentration, and decreased concentrations of Na+, Cl- and Mg2+ in plasma and, to a lesser extent, in urine. Death of M. quadricornis in SW was associated with increased plasma osmolality, and Na+, Cl- and Mg2+ concentrations, but the renal excretion of ions approached that generally found in marine teleosts. In most cases, RBC volume followed the changes in plasma osmolality or Na+ and Cl- concentrations. Both species showed an ability to increase tubular Mg2+ secretion much over that needed in BW, and increased secretion was associated with high urine Cl- concentration. M. quadricornis, but not M. scorpius, reabsorbed Na+ effectively in SW also. Differences between Oceanic and Baltic specimens of M. scorpius are discussed.  相似文献

Marine invertebrates are thought to accumulate 210Po primarily from their food. In this study, a pulse-chase methodology was used to examine the assimilation and depuration of 210Po by Mytilus edulis from the common marine alga Isochrysis galbana. The digestion of 210Po from I. galbana occurred via a biphasic process, characteristic of a rapid (extracellular) and slow (intracellular) digestion typical of marine bivalves. The mantle/gill and foot have no known digestive role, yet their 210Po specific activities increased after 24 h. It is proposed that this increase in 210Po specific activity was related to 210Po being incorporated into these tissues from 210Po assimilated from I. galbana during extracellular digestion. It is proposed that the linear loss of 210Po previously accumulated by control mussels was related to the continual state of renewal and replacement of cellular proteins, with 210Po turnover and metabolism governed by protein turnover and metabolism. M. edulis' assimilation efficiency of 210Po from the 210Po-labelled alga was calculated to be 17.2 ± 2.1%, and thus similar to that of Ag, Cd, Co, Se and Zn by bivalves from other marine algae species. The metabolism of 14C-labelled lactate was investigated in the horseshoe crab Limulus polyphemus and the stone crab Menippe mercenaria. When a bolus of (14C-U)-D-lactate was injected into L. polyphemus, there was substantial release pf 14CO2 into the medium. In the case of M. mercenaria, 14CO2 release was also observed after injection of (14C-U)-L-lactate into experimental individuals. Analysis of the distribution of radioactivity in whole body extracts of both species revealed easily detectable amounts of radioactivity in the glycogen fraction, although the bulk of the radioactivity was in the cation, anion/neutral and CO2 fractions. To investigate the metabolism of lactate further, 14C-labelled lactate was injected into large individuals of L. polyphemus and M. mercenaria, and the distribution of radioactivity was determined in the hemolymph, muscle and hepatopancreas. Utilization of (14C-U)-D-lactate by L. polyphemus resulted in the accumulation of significant amounts of labelled glucose in all three body compartments as well as the production of labelled glycogen in the telson levator muscle and hepatopancreas. Utilization of (14C-U)-L-lactate resulted in a similar pattern of glucose and glycogen labelling in the hemolymph, cheliped muscle and hepatopancreas of M. mercenaria. These studies demonstrate that both L. polyphemus and M. mercenaria have the capacity for glyco- and gluconeogenesis using lactate as the substrate.  相似文献

Gram negative bacteria classified as Alcaligenes eutrophus and carrying large resistance plasmids (generally two) were found in various industrial sites highly contaminated by heavy metals (Zn++, Cu++, Co++,...). These strains were detected by DNA hybridization with a probe made with a 9kb fragment (ccz+ fragment) encoding for resistances to Cd++, Co++ and Zn++, and cloned from plasmid pMOL30. This plasmid was isolated from the representative strain A. eutrophus CH34 which harbours the plasmids pMOL30 (240 kb) and pMOL28 (165 kb). Phenotypes related to pMOL28 and pMOL30 include the tolerance to Cd++, Co++, Cr04 =, Cu++, Hg++, Ni++, Pb++ and Zn++. The described genetic properties of these plasmids refer to some cloned or mapped functions and to some plasmid rearrangements. Plasmid pMOL85 (250 kb) which is related to pMOL30 was also described. Its host (A. eutrophus DS185) was isolated from a zinc desert. pMOL85 can efficiently self transfer in plasmidfree derivatives.  相似文献

The isotopic ratios 18O/16O and 13C/12C show an annal periodicity in the strombid snails Strombus gigas and S. costatus from Bermuda. S. gigas appears to have a constant displacement of 0.5 from oxygen isotopic equilibrium, whereas S. costatus fractionates the oxygen istopes in accordance with established fractionation relationships. With this tool, the growth in strombid snails during different stage can readily be determined on one and the same snail. A 24.8 cm long S. gigas showed an age of 7, a 19.3 cm long S. costatus of 5, and a 7.8 cm long S. costatus of 2 years. From the annual range in oxygen isotopes, growth restricted to warmer periods of the year is assumed. The abundances of 18O and 13C tend to be positively correlated in adult S. gigas and S. costatus speciments, but were inversely related in a juvenile S. costatus.  相似文献

The adsorption of some heavy metals onto the walls of harvested, washed, and dried non-living biomass cells of different Pseudomonas strains was studied at optimum experimental conditions using a simplified single component system. The Langmuir adsorption model was found to be a suitable approach to describe the system via multi-step processes. Isotherms measured at 30.0°C and pH 5.5 with [M]total?=?10–100 mM for tight, reversible Cr6+(aq), Ni2+(aq), Cu2+(aq) and Cd2+(aq) binding by the cell walls of the investigated biomass fit the Langmuir model and give the pH-independent stoichiometric site capacities ν i and equilibrium constants K i for metal binding at specific biomass sites i?=?A, B, C, and D. Tight binding sites A, B, and D of the non-living biomass are occupied by CrVI, sites A and C by NiII, sites A and D by CdII, and only site B by CuII. It is concluded that ν i is a stoichiometric parameter that is independent of the magnitude of K i for binding site i and that the studied heavy metals selectively and tightly bind at different biomass sites.  相似文献

The ultrastructure and pigment content of algal chloroplasts (derived from Bacillariophyceae or Chrysophyceae) are described from 3 benthic species of brackish-water foraminiferans.Elphidium williamsoni Haynes contains 4×106 chloroplasts mg-1, whereas the contents ofNonion germanicum (Ehrenberg) andE. excavatum (Terquem) are about 10% of this value. The two former contain chlorophyllsa andc and fucoxanthin, but these pigments were not detectable in the latter.E. williamsoni andN. germanicum had a net uptake of14C–HCO 3 - , proportional to their content of chlorophyll and number of chloroplasts, increasing linearly up to approximately 10 Klux. At light saturation the former assimilates 2.3x10-3 mg C mg-1 h-1 and the latter only about 20% of this value. Dark uptake was insignificant in all cases. Uptake could not be demonstrated inE. excavatum. The photosynthesis effected by these species is trivial in terms of the total benthic carbon fixation effected by the microflora. The chloroplasts survived longer in forminiferans kept in the dark than in light/dark adapted individuals. To keep a steady state population of chloroplasts under light/dark conditions,E. williamsoni must eat at least 65 chloroplasts individual-1 h-1, whereas the minimum consuption rate inN. germanicum is 20.  相似文献
