This study analyzes 46 brain and 48 spinal-cord impact experiments. The velocity of brain impact was 2.0-10.0 m/s and displacement, 0.75-5.0 mm (5.3-33% compression) using a controlled pneumatic impact. The velocity of spinal-cord impact was 1.5-6.0 m/s and displacement, 1.25-3.25 mm (25-65% compression). Brain injury varied from cortical contusion, diffuse axonal injury (DAI), to fatalities, and spinal-cord injury from temporary to complete loss of somatosensory-evoked potentials. Logist functions were determined for each injury severity and various biomechanical parameters, VC, C, V, and combinations. Brain and spinal-cord injury is most strongly correlated to VC, the viscous response. The goodness-of-fit was x2 = 22.1, R-0.84 and p< 0.0000 for fatal brain injury, x2 = 27.5, R = 0.96 and p< 0.0000 for cortical contusion, and x2 = 17.7, R = 0.49 and p < 0.0001 for partial recovery of spinal-cord conduction. Neural tissue is viscoelastic, with a rate-dependent tolerance related to energy absorption. VC is a measure of energy absorption by impact deformation and is predictive of neural contusion, DAI, long-duration coma, spinal-cord dysfunction, and death. Tolerances for various severities of neural injury are presented. At the tissue level, VC is the product of strain and strain-rate, ε dε/dt. The research shows that strain is not a sufficient parameter of neural injury risk, and that the product of strain and strain-rate is a key biomechanical parameter for brain and spinal-cord injury.  相似文献

An integrated process of metal chelate absorption coupled with two stage bio-reduction using immobilized cultures has been proposed to continuously removal of NOx, and the effects of SO2, NO and O2 concentration, gas/liquid flow rate on NOx removal efficiency were investigated. Although nitrogen-containing components, such as Fe(II)EDTA-NO, NO2? and NO3? in the scrubbing solution, inhibited the bio-reduction of Fe(III)EDTA obviously, it was feasible to abate the inhibition effect by using the two stage bio-reduction system, and thus to improve NOx removal efficiency. The removal efficiency decreased slowly with the increase of SO2, O2, NO concentration and gas flow rate, and increased with the increase of liquid flow rate. Continuously operating for 18 days, a high removal efficiency around 95% was reached by using the two-stage bio-reduction system with immobilized microorganisms, while the value decreased to 85% after 5 days of operation by using the suspended microorganisms, at a constant gas flow rate of 60 L/h containing 424–450 mg/m3 NO, 2428–2532 mg/m3 SO2 and 3% O2.  相似文献

Attention has been focused on the treatment of lignite-fired flue gas in order to use lignite in an environmentally friendly way – (i) low-CO2 emission, (ii) production of a valuable by-product, (iii) no discharge of wastewater, (iv) direct removal of SO3 (strong toxicity), and (v) treatment of high SO2 concentration. Based on these criteria, electron beam irradiation with ammonia injection was tested on a semi-pilot scale: 800 Nm3 h?1 flow rate, 5500 ppm SO2, 70 ppm NOx, 22% flue gas moisture, and 75–80 °C at the reactor outlet. As an energy-saving measure, a low dose (5 kGy) of irradiation was applied: the problem lay in the by-product quality. It is considered that (NH4)2SO3 and NH4HSO3 produced by thermal reactions are oxidized to form (NH4)2SO4 (fertilizer) by an electron beam. However, not all reactions were complete because the by-product contained small amounts of H2SO4 and NH2SO3NH4 (herbicide), so a vegetable pot test was performed to study the by-product quality: no adverse effect was observed. It is inferred from the pot test that slightly acidic soil may protect vegetables from disease and a small amount of NH2SO3NH4 probably affects woody species and not herbaceous species. It is concluded that the electron beam system is noted as a multi-component pollution control process (removal of NOx, SO3, SO2 and dioxins) and this system will contribute to environmentally friendly use of lignite as well as agricultural productivity via fertilizer supply.  相似文献

Advanced reburning (AR) is effective for nitrogen oxides (NOx) reduction, which integrates the basic reburning (BR) with the injection of nitrogen agents and additive compounds. The basic reburning of poplar, cornstalk, wheat-straw and peanut shell, is studied on a boiler simulator facility (BSF). The influence of operating parameters and the synergistic effect of the injection of ammonia, urea or/and sodium carbonate on NOx reduction are investigated. The results show that an efficiency of 54–67% NOx reduction could be achieved during the basic reburning process under the optimum operating conditions and the efficiency would be increased if nitrogen agent is injected with the over-fire air or into the burnout zone. Further, co-injection of sodium carbonate with the nitrogen agent could make the NOx reduction process more thorough. On the whole, 85–92% NOx reduction could be achieved during the advanced reburning process with a reburning fuel heat input of 15–20%.  相似文献

Experiments were conducted in a 1 m3 vessel with a top vent to investigate the effect of methane concentration and ignition position on pressure buildup and flame behavior. Three pressure peaks (p1, p2, and Pext) and two types of pressure oscillations (Helmholtz and acoustic oscillations) were observed. The rupture of vent cover results in p1 that is insensitive to methane concentration and ignition position. Owing to the interaction between acoustic wave and the flame, p2 forms in the central and top ignition explosions when the methane–air mixture is near–stoichiometric. When the methane–air mixture is centrally ignited, p2 first increases and then decreases with an increase in the methane concentration. The external explosion-induced Pext is observed only in the bottom ignition explosions with an amplitude of several kilopascals. Under the current experimental conditions, flame–acoustic interaction leads to the most serious explosions in central ignition tests. Methane concentration and ignition position have little effect on the frequency of Helmholtz and acoustic oscillations; however, the Helmholtz oscillation lasts longer and first decreases and then increases as the methane concentration increases for top ignition cases. The ignition position significantly affects the Taylor instability of the flame front resulting from the Helmholtz oscillation.  相似文献

The main risk factors from methane explosion are the associated shock waves, flames, and harmful gases. Inert gases and inhibiting powders are commonly used to prevent and mitigate the damage caused by an explosion. In this study, three inhibitors (inert gas with 8.0 vol% CO2, 0.25 g/L Mg(OH)2 particles, and 0.25 g/L NH4H2PO4 particles) were prepared. Their inhibiting effects on methane explosions with various concentrations of methane were tested in a nearly spherical 20-L explosion vessel. Both single-component inhibitors and gas–particle mixtures can substantially suppress methane explosions with varying degrees of success. However, various inhibitors exhibited distinct reaction mechanisms for methane gas, which indicated that their inhibiting effects for methane explosion varied. To alleviate amplitude, the ranking of single-component inhibitors for both explosion pressure (Pex) and the rate of explosion pressure rise [(dP/dt)ex] was as follows: CO2, NH4H2PO4 particles, and Mg(OH)2 particles. In order of decreasing amplitude, the ranking of gas‒particle mixtures for both Pex and (dP/dt)ex was as follows: CO2–NH4H2PO4 mixture, CO2‒Mg(OH)2 mixture, and pure CO2. Overall, the optimal suppression effect was observed in the system with the CO2–NH4H2PO4 mixture, which exhibited an eminent synergistic effect on methane explosions. The amplitudes of Pex with methane concentrations of 7.0, 9.5, and 11.0 vol% decreased by 37.1%, 42.5%, and 98.6%, respectively, when using the CO2–NH4H2PO4 mixture. In addition, an antagonistic effect was observed with CO2‒Mg(OH)2 mixtures because MgO, which was generated by the thermal decomposition of Mg(OH)2, can chemically react with water vapor and CO2 to produce basic magnesium carbonate (xMgCO3·yMg(OH)2·zH2O), thereby reducing the CO2 concentration in a reaction system. This research revealed the inhibiting effects of gas‒particle mixtures (including CO2, Mg(OH)2 particles, and NH4H2PO4 particles) on methane explosions and provided primary experimental data.  相似文献

Cost efficient NiO nanoparticles were synthesized by hydrothermal production of nano-scale Ni(OH)2, using Ni(NO3)2·6H2O and NaOH as precursors, in the presence of H2acacen ligand, followed by calcinations of the produced Ni(OH)2. Prepared samples were then characterized using X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectra, Brunauer–Emmet–Teller (BET) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). BET analysis revealed high surface area for pure nano sized NiO, averaging 176.56 m2/g and confirming its application as an efficient adsorbent. Experimental studies for Rhodamine B (RB) removal from aqueous solutions in batch systems revealed that the adsorption equilibrium was best represented by Langmuir isotherm, with the maximum monolayer capacity of 111 mg/g for RB. The kinetic data was well described by a pseudo-second-order kinetic model, having intraparticle diffusion model as a rate limiting step.  相似文献

To achieve the rapid prediction of minimum ignition energy (MIE) for premixed gases with wide-span equivalence ratios, a theoretical model is developed based on the proposed idea of flame propagation layer by layer. The validity and high accuracy of this model in predicting MIE have been corroborated against experimental data (from literature) and traditional models. In comparison, this model is mainly applicable to uniform premixed flammable mixtures, and the ignition source needs to be regarded as a punctiform energy source. Nevertheless, this model can exhibit higher accuracy (up to 90%) than traditional models when applied to premixed gases with wide-span equivalence ratios, such as C3H8-air mixtures with 0.7–1.5 equivalence ratios, CH4-air mixtures with 0.7–1.25 equivalence ratios, H2-air mixtures with 0.6–3.15 equivalence ratios et al. Further, the model parameters have been pre-determined using a 20 L spherical closed explosion setup with a high-speed camera, and then the MIE of common flammable gases (CH4, C2H6, C3H8, C4H10, C2H4, C3H6, C2H2, C3H4, C2H6O, CO and H2) under stoichiometric or wide-span equivalence ratios has been calculated. Eventually, the influences of model parameters on MIE have been discussed. Results show that MIE is the sum of the energy required for flame propagation during ignition. The increase in exothermic and heat transfer efficiency for fuel molecules can reduce MIE, whereas prolonging the flame induction period can increase MIE.  相似文献

In the Ag(II)/Ag(I) redox mediator integrated scrubber system, NO reacts with the Ag(II) ions produced by the electrochemical oxidation of Ag(I) in an electrochemical cell present in the scrubbing solution (aqueous HNO3 acid) to form NO2. This NO2 is then absorbed into the scrubbing solution and degraded to nitrate. Numerous experimental runs were carried out to evaluate the feasibility of the integrated system to treat industrial waste gases containing high NOx levels. The results showed that the levels of NO and NOx removal increased with increasing Ag(II) loading and contact time. Under optimized conditions, 93.5% and 73.3% of the NO and NOx, respectively, were removed by a single stage gas scrubber with 1.62 g L?1 Ag(II) operating at 25 °C and atmospheric pressure.  相似文献

Emission of NOx is of primary environmental concern in the oil sands industry. Selective catalytic reduction (SCR) is one of the best NOx reduction technologies. The present study discusses the testing of a mechanistic kinetic model for the SCR of NOx to describe the kinetics of V2O5/TiO2 catalysis at atmospheric pressure and a temperature of 623 K in a monolith honeycomb reactor. The modeling results impart insight into the significance of the diffusion with reaction steps and guidance for optimal monolith design for SCR. The validated expression would predict the conversion performance of the catalysts for different values of temperature inlet and ammonia concentration. A good agreement between experimental and model results has been obtained. A heterogeneous numerical model consisting of coupled mass and momentum balance equations was solved using the finite elements method without neglecting the axial dispersion term. The operating range for the catalyst relies on the NO conversion and emission. The optimum operating range for the best performance of the reactor is discussed.  相似文献

Treatment of Methyl Orange (MO), an azo dye, synthetic wastewater by electrocoagulation with periodic reversal of the electrodes (PREC) was examined. Response Surface Methodology (RSM) was used to optimize the influence of experimental conditions for color removal (CR), energy consumption (ENC), electrode consumption (ELC) and sludge production (SP) per kg MO removed (kg(MOr)) with optimal conditions being found to be pH 7.4, solution conductivity (к) 9.4 mS cm−1, cell voltage (U) 4.4 V, current density (j) 185 mA cm−2, electrocoagulation time (T) 14 min, cycle of periodic reversal of electrodes (t) 15 s, inter-electrode distance (d) 3.5 cm and initial MO concentration of 125 mg L−1. Under these conditions, 97 ± 2% color was removed and ENC, ELC and SP were 44 ± 3 kWh kg(MOr)−1, 4.1 ± 0.2 kg(Al) kg(MOr)−1 and 17.2 ± 0.9 kg(sludge) kg(MOr)−1, respectively. With the enhanced electrochemical efficiency resulting from the periodic electrode reversal, the coefficients of increased resistance and decreased current density between the two electrodes in the PREC setup were 2.48 × 10−4 Ω cm−2 min−1 and 0.29 mA cm−2 min−1, respectively, as compared to 7.72 × 10−4 Ω cm−2 min−1 and 0.79 mA cm−2 min−1 as measured for the traditional electrocoagulation process. The rate constant of decolorization was also enhanced by 20.4% from 0.152 min−1 in the traditional electrocoagulation process to 0.183 min−1 in the PREC process. These performance characteristics indicate that the PREC approach may be more promising in terms of practical application, as a cost-effective treatment, than conventional electrocoagulation for textile dye removals.  相似文献

Biodegradability enhancement of landfill leachate using air stripping followed by coagulation/ultrafiltration (UF) processes was introduced. The air stripping process obtained a removal efficiency of 88.6% for ammonia nitrogen (NH4–N) at air-to-liquid ratio of 3500 (pH 11) for stripping 18 h. The single coagulation process increased BOD/COD ratio by 0.089 with the FeCl3 dosage of 570 mg l?1 at pH 7.0, and the single UF process increased the BOD/COD ratio to 0.311 from 0.049. However, the combined process of coagulation/UF increased the BOD/COD ratio from 0.049 to 0.43, and the final biological oxygen demand (BOD), chemical oxygen demand (COD), NH4–N and colour of leachate were 1223.6 mg l?1, 2845.5 mg l?1, 145.1 mg l?1 and 2056.8, respectively, when 3 kDa molecular weight cut-off (MWCO) membrane was used at the operating pressure 0.7 MPa. In ultrafiltration process, the average solution flux (JV), concentration multiple (MC) and retention rate (R) for COD was 107.3 l m?2 h?1, 6.3% and 84.2%, respectively.  相似文献

Objective: This study evaluated the effectiveness of a series of 1-year multifaceted school-based programs aimed at increasing booster seat use among urban children 4–7 years of age in economically disadvantaged areas.

Methods: During 4 consecutive school years, 2011–2015, the Give Kids a Boost (GKB) program was implemented in a total of 8 schools with similar demographics in Dallas County. Observational surveys were conducted at project schools before project implementation (P0), 1–4 weeks after the completion of project implementation (P1), and 4–5 months later (P2). Changes in booster seat use for the 3 time periods were compared for the 8 project and 14 comparison schools that received no intervention using a nonrandomized trial process.

The intervention included (1) train-the-trainer sessions with teachers and parents; (2) presentations about booster seat safety; (3) tailored communication to parents; (4) distribution of fact sheets/resources; (5) walk-around education; and (6) booster seat inspections.

The association between the GKB intervention and proper booster seat use was determined initially using univariate analysis. The association was also estimated using a generalized linear mixed model predicting a binomial outcome (booster seat use) for those aged 4 to 7 years, adjusted for child-level variables (age, sex, race/ethnicity) and car-level variables (vehicle type). The model incorporated the effects of clustering by site and by collection date to account for the possibility of repeated sampling.

Results: In the 8 project schools, booster seat use for children 4–7 years of age increased an average of 20.9 percentage points between P0 and P1 (P0 = 4.8%, P1 = 25.7%; odds ratio [OR] = 6.9; 95% confidence interval [CI], 5.5, 8.7; P < .001) and remained at that level in the P2 time period (P2 = 25.7%; P < .001, for P0 vs. P2) in the univariate analysis. The 14 comparison schools had minimal change in booster seat use. The multivariable model showed that children at the project schools were significantly more likely to be properly restrained in a booster seat after the intervention (OR = 2.7; 95% CI, 2.2, 3.3) compared to the P0 time period and compared to the comparison schools.

Conclusion: Despite study limitations, the GKB program was positively associated with an increase in proper booster seat use for children 4–7 years of age in school settings among diverse populations in economically disadvantaged areas. These increases persisted into the following school year in a majority of the project schools. The GKB model may be a replicable strategy to increase booster seat use among school-age children in similar urban settings.  相似文献

To accurately predict the development degree of coal spontaneous combustion (CSC), the CSC process was investigated using a programmed high-temperature-heating experimental system, and the variation law of index gas concentration in the holistic process of CSC and oxidation is formulated. Additionally, the accuracy of the experimental system was evaluated using experimental design for thermal analysis, and the correlation between gas index and apparent activation energy was determined using grey correlation analysis. The results indicated the following. In the critical temperature stage (0–100 °C), φ(CO)/φ(CO2) should serve as the main index and C2H4 should serve as the auxiliary index; in the crack-active-speedup temperature stage (100–260 °C), CO and φ(C2H4)/φ(C2H6) should serve as the main index and R1, the Graham index, and φ(C2H4)/φ(CH4) should serve as auxiliary indexes; in the speedup-ignition temperature stage (260–370 °C), R2 and the Graham index should serve as main indexes and φ(CO)/φ(CO2), C2H4, and R1 should serve as auxiliary indexes; in the ignition temperature (370–500 °C), R3 should serve as the main index and R2, the Graham index and C2H4 should serve as auxiliary indexes. Among them, the grey correlation degrees among the Graham index, Grignard fire coefficient, and apparent activation energy were the highest, reaching 0.91.  相似文献

Annual ryegrass (Lolium perenne L.) is an important cool-season forage grass in the southeastern US. Since large portions of soils in this region are too acidic for optimum ryegrass production, there exists an opportunity to use lime mud waste from numerous regional pulp and paper mills as an agricultural liming material. In this study, four lime mud application rates, 2.25 (L1), 4.51 (L2), 9.01 (L3), and 22.50 (L4) ton ha−1, dry weight basis, and a control (L0) were evaluated for response to ryegrass growth during the first 6 weeks to estimate an optimum application range over the testing soil for future field test. Results indicated that applied lime mud slowed ryegrass germination and seedling emergence, with differences of whole plant length among treatments L0–L4 significant only during the first three weeks. Differences of whole plant dry weight among treatments L0–L4 reduced thereafter. The initial soil pH increase due to the lime mud application dropped in treatments L1–L4 by the end of the 6-week experiment. The optimum lime mud application range was estimated between L2 and L3, which provided higher ryegrass yields (kg ha−1) of 84 and 80 over 77 of the control and complied with the Code of Federal Regulation, CFR 40 Part 503 for land application.  相似文献

Analytical and numerical solutions are used to determine the critical conditions for thermal explosion of autocatalytic reaction. The solutions covers both the reaction governed by the Arrhenius kinetics equation and the Frank-Kamenetskii approximation for that equation. The definition of criticality as the point at which d2θ/2=0, d3θ/3=0 and /〉0 is used here. The study is dealt with low and high exothermicity (B) of the reaction and their effects on the critical parameters. The numerical solutions cover the whole reaction from start at β = 0 up to the end at β = 1.0. All trajectories from subcritical, critical to supercritical are offered. The effects of different parameters such as B, ψ and θa (ambient temperature) on the critical conditions are presented. The results showed that the lower the autocatalytic factor (β0) is, the pronounced autocatalytic reaction explosion. The analytical solution offered analytical expressions for the critical condition and the different limits of the solutions are clarified. It was found that the numerical results confirm the analytical solution.  相似文献

Explosion characteristics of micron- and nano-size magnesium powders were determined using CSIR-CBRI 20-L Sphere, Hartmann apparatus and Godbert-Greenwald furnace to study influence of particle size reduction to nano-range on these. The explosion parameters investigated are: maximum explosion pressure (Pmax), maximum rate of pressure-rise (dP/dt)max, dust explosibility index (KSt), minimum explosible concentration (MEC), minimum ignition energy (MIE), minimum ignition temperature (MIT), limiting oxygen concentration (LOC) and effect of reduced oxygen level on explosion severity. Magnesium particle sizes are: 125, 74, 38, 22, 10 and 1 μm; and 400, 200, 150, 100, 50 and 30 nm. Experimental results indicate significant increase in explosion severity (Pmax: 7–14 bar, KSt: 98–510 bar·m/s) as particle size decreases from 125 to 1 μm, it is maximum for 400 nm (Pmax: 14.6 bar, KSt: 528 bar·m/s) and decreases with further decrease of particle size to nano-range 200–30 nm (Pmax: 12.4–9.4 bar, KSt: 460–262 bar·m/s) as it is affected by agglomeration of nano-particles. MEC decreases from 160 to 30 g/m3 on decreasing particle size from 125 to 1 μm, its value is 30 g/m3 for 400 and 200 nm and 20 g/m3 for further decrease in nano-range (150–30 nm). MIE reduces from 120 to 2 mJ on decreasing the particle size from 125 to 1 μm, its value is 1 mJ for 400, 200, 150 nm size and <1 mJ for 50 and 30 nm. Minimum ignition temperature is 600 °C for 125 μm magnesium, it varies between 570 and 450 °C for sizes 38–1 μm and 400–350 °C for size range 400–30 nm. Magnesium powders in nano-range (30–200 nm) explode less violently than micron-range powder. However, likelihood of explosion increases significantly for nano-range magnesium. LOC is 5% for magnesium size range 125–38 μm, 4% for 22–1 μm, 3% for 400 nm, 4% for 200, 150 and 100 nm, and 5% for 50 and 30 nm. Reduction in oxygen levels to 9% results in decrease in Pmax and KSt by a factor of 2–3 and 4–5, respectively, for micron as well as nano-sizes. The experimental data presented will be useful for industries producing or handling similar size range micron- and nano-magnesium in order to evaluate explosibility of their magnesium powders and propose/design adequate safety measures.  相似文献

Alkyl methacrylate–maleic anhydride–alkyl methacrylate terpolymers (MR1–MA–MR2) is one of the widely used cold flow improver. In order to develop more efficient MR1–MA–MR2, it is necessary to study the crystallization behavior of n-alkanes when adding MR1–MA–MR2 into diesel fuel. In this paper, MR1–MA–MR2 is prepared by the reaction of long-chain alkyl methacrylate (MR1), maleic anhydride (MA), and short alkyl methacrylate (MR2). The diesel fuel before and after adding MR1–MA–MR2 is in situ filtrated at its cold filter plugging point (CFPP) in a manual CFPP apparatus. Extensive measurements of composition variation of n-alkanes are done by gas chromatograph and the results are compared. The experimental results show that after adding MR1–MA–MR2, the concentration distribution of n-alkanes in the filtrate is wide and arranges from 8 to 26, and mainly centralizes from 10 to 19. For the precipitate, the concentration distribution of n-alkanes gets richer in the lighter n-alkanes and poorer in the heavier n-alkanes. The concentration distribution of n-alkanes in the crystal solid shows a decreasing trend, especially with high carbon number n-alkanes (heavier than C20). About 60–70% of the residual crystal solid is composed of non-paraffins such as isoparaffin, naphthene and other components. Crystallinities of n-alkanes show a slow decrease trend from C8 to C20. When the carbon number n-alkanes are heavier than C20, the crystallinities of n-alkanes begin to sharply reduce with an increase of carbon number. The largest decline of crystallinity is C26 n-alkane from 38.39% to 7.90%.  相似文献

Aim. The purpose of this study was to examine the associations between various health and fitness measures and Functional Movement Screen? (FMS?) scores among 78 firefighter recruits. Methods. Relationships between FMS? scores and age, body mass index (BMI), sit and reach (S&R) distance, estimated maximal aerobic capacity (O2max), estimated one-repetition maximum squat (1RM-Squatmax), and plank endurance (%Plankmax) were examined. Results. Total FMS? scores were significantly correlated with BMI (r?=??0.231, p?=?0.042), estimated 1RM-Squatmax (r?=?0.302, p?=?0.007), and %Plankmax (r?=?0.320, p?=?0.004). Multiple regression analyses indicated that this combination of predictors significantly predicted (F(3, 74)?=?5.043, p?=?0.003) Total FMS? score outcomes and accounted for 17% of the total variance (R2?=?0.170). In addition, logistic regression analyses indicated that estimated 1RM-Squatmax also significantly predicted (χ2?=?6.662, df?=?1, p?=?0.010) FMS? group membership (≤14 or ≥15). Conclusion. These results suggest that the health and fitness measures of obesity (BMI), bilateral lower extremity strength (estimated 1RM-Squatmax), and core muscular endurance (%Plankmax) are significantly associated with functional movement patterns among firefighter recruits. Consequently, injury prevention programs implemented among firefighter recruits should target these aspects of health and fitness.  相似文献
