Gas phase reaction of CHClF(2) with CH(3)Br in an alumina tube reactor at 773-1123 K as a function of various input ratios of CH(3)Br to CHClF(2) is presented. The major products detected include C(2)F(4), CH(2)CF(2), and CH(4). Minor products include CH(3)Cl, CHF(3), C(2)H(4), C(2)H(2), CH(2)CF-CF(3), and C(2)H(3)F. The reaction produces a high yield of CH(2)CF(2) (53% based on CHClF(2) feed) at 1123 K and an input molar ratio of CH(3)Br to CHClF(2) of 1.8, suggesting that the reaction potentially can be developed as a process to convert two ozone depleting substances (CHClF(2) and CH(3)Br) to a highly valuable chemical, CH(2)CF(2). The reaction of CHClF(2) with CH(3)Cl and CH(3)I was also investigated under similar reaction conditions, to assist in understanding the reaction chemistry involved in the reaction of CHClF(2) with CH(3)Br.  相似文献

The marine halogenated natural product 2,3,3',4,4',5,5'-heptachloro-1'-methyl-1,2'-bipyrrole (Q1) is widely distributed in the environment. In this study, we screened samples which have previously been found to contain remarkably high residues of Q1 (blubber of marine mammals from Australia, samples from Antarctica, human milk from the Faroe Island) for the additional presence of mixed chlorinated and brominated congeners. Using GC/ECNI-MS, all samples tested were positive and many contained four out of five possible bromohexachloro congeners (BrCl6-MBPs), five out of 14 possible dibromopentachloro congeners (Br2Cl5-MBPs), five of 21 possible tribromotetrachloro-congeners (Br3Cl4-MBPs), as well as several higher brominated congeners. About 20 heptahalo congeners of Q1 are described for the first time in the scientific literature. Isomers eluted within about one minute, respectively. Hence it is possible, that the peak clusters identified may be composed of more, co-eluting congeners. Similarities in the GC/ECNI-MS mass spectra with polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) were addressed. We also suggest an acronym system similar to that in use for polychlorinated biphenyls that may simplify the use of this substance class in scientific papers. In the samples from Australia, BrCl6-MBPs and Br2Cl5-MBPs amounted for 7-27.5% and 0.4-4.2% of Q1, respectively whereas Br3Cl4-MBPs and higher brominated MBPs were found in the range of <1% of Q1 or less.  相似文献

Concentrations of halogens (Cl, Br and I) in 30 Japanese rivers were measured by ion chromatography and inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry to understand their behavior in the terrestrial environment. Concentrations of Cl, Br and I in each river, obtained at 10 sampling points from the upper stream to the river mouth, tended to increase near the river mouth. The ranges of geometric means of Cl, Br and I in each river were 1.0–19.4 mg l−1, 2.5–67.9 μg l−1, and 0.18–8.34 μg l−1, respectively. To compare halogen behavior, the concentration ratios, Br/Cl and I/Cl, were calculated. The Br/Cl range was (2.3–7.8) × 10−3 (geometric mean: 3.74 × 10−3), and it was nearly constant except for the Yoneshiro river. It was estimated that 60–80% of total Br in the middle to lower parts of this river was the excess Br. The Br chemical form in all the rivers is generally considered to be Br. The I/Cl ratios had different trends in rivers flowing into the Japan Sea and Pacific Ocean, possibly due to the different geological features in the river catchments.  相似文献

Basic physical-chemical properties of five bromine and chlorine containing mixed halogenated dimethyl bipyrroles (HDBPs) were determined using established methods. Subcooled liquid vapour pressures (P(o)(L,25)), aqueous solubilities (S(w,25)), and octanol/water partition coefficients (K(ow)) were determined using the gas chromatography-retention time, generator column, and slow-stirring methods, respectively. Henry's Law constants (H25) were estimated using experimentally-derived P(o)(L) and S(w,25) data. Values of all four properties were generally similar to those reported for other polyhalogenated aromatic compounds [P(o)(L,25) = (7.55-191) x 10(-6) Pa; S(w,25) = (1.0-1.9) x 10(-5) g/l; log K(ow) = 6.4-6.7; H25 = 0.0020-0.14 Pa m3/mol]. The effect of replacing a chlorine with a bromine atom significantly decreased P(o)(L,25) (log P(o)(L,25) = -0.4197 (# bromine atoms) - 2.643, p<0.01) and H25 (log H25 = -0.508 (# bromine atoms) + 0.394, p<0.02). There were no significant effects of bromine/chlorine substitution on S(w,25) or K(ow). A simple Level I equilibrium partitioning model predicted the environmental behaviour of HDBPs to be similar to a tetrabrominated diphenyl ether. Only slight differences in behaviour amongst HDBP congeners were predicted since substitution of a bromine for a chlorine (Cl/Br substitution) atom had less effect than H/Cl or H/Br substitution on P(o)(L,25), S(w,25), H25, and K(ow).  相似文献

Three novel halogenated organic compounds (HOCs) have been identified in the blubber of marine mammals from coastal New England with the molecular formulae C(9)H(3)N(2)Br(6)Cl, C(9)H(3)N(2)Br(7), and C(9)H(4)N(2)Br(5)Cl. They were identified using high and low resolution gas chromatography mass spectrometry (GCMS) and appear to be highly brominated analogues of Q1, a heptachlorinated HOC suspected to be naturally produced. These compounds were found in Atlantic white sided dolphin (Lagenorhynchus acutus), bottlenose dolphin (Tursiops truncatus), common dolphin (Delphinus delphis), Risso's dolphin (Grampus griseus), harbor porpoise (Phocoena phocoena), beluga whale (Delphinapterus leucas), fin whale (Balaenoptera physalus), grey seal (Halichoerus grypus), harp seal (Phoca groenlandica) and a potential food source (Loligo pealei) with concentrations as high as 2.7 microg/g (lipid weight). The regiospecificity of C(9)H(3)N(2)Br(6)Cl is suggestive of a biogenic origin. Debromination of C(9)H(3)N(2)Br(6)Cl may be significant in the formation of C(9)H(4)N(2)Br(5)Cl.  相似文献

Mixed halogenated dibenzo-p-dioxins and dibenzofurans (PXDD/PXDFs, X = Br, Cl) are formed through combustion processes, and may be more toxic than their corresponding chlorinated and brominated analogues. With 4600 potential congeners, limited analytical standards, and complex environmental matrices, PXDD/PXDFs present a significant analytical challenge. Gas chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (GC-MS/MS) offers both selectivity and sensitivity through multiple reaction monitoring of unique transitions in a novel approach to PXDD/PXDF congener identification. Method validation was performed through analysis of soil samples obtained from a recycling plant fire. Of the PXDD/PXDFs examined, monobromo-dichlorodibenzofuran was the most prevalent, ranging in concentration from 8.6 ng g−1 to 180 ng g−1. Dibromo-dichlorodibenzo-p-dioxin, a compound of toxicological concern, ranged from 0.41 ng g−1 to 10 ng g−1. Concentrations of PXDD/PXDFs were between 6% and 10% that of the corresponding polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and dibenzofurans (PCDD/PCDFs), with the exception of dibromo-dichlorodibenzo-p-dioxin concentrations, which were 36% that of tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxins. Higher levels of polybrominated PXDD/PXDFs may indicate a significant bromine source was present during combustion.  相似文献

Na37Cl was used to study the role of chlorine in the formation of polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins (PCDD) and dibenzofurans (PCDF) from carbon. Adding Na37Cl to fly ash showed that this compound was a (relatively) poor chloride source; chlorine naturally present on the ash - which could include both chlorine in residual carbon and (metal) chlorides - was found to be ca. 17x more reactive. When both Na37Cl and CuCl2 were added to aqueous extracted fly ash, the percentage of 37Cl from Na37Cl included in PCDD/F increased, compared to the combination of Na37Cl/fly ash. When Na37Cl and CuCl2 were exchanged in water, followed by evaporation of the solvent, and mixed with aqueous extracted fly ash, the percentage of 37Cl included in PCDD/F was much higher. Apparently, direct transfer of 37Cl from CuCl2 to carbon and PCDD/F was much faster than transfer of 37Cl- from Na37Cl via a metal chloride (such as CuCl2) to carbon and PCDD/F. In addition to chlorine in PCDD/F originating from exchanged NaCl/CuCl2, chloride left on the fly ash after aqueous extraction and chlorine present in residual carbon could also have been incorporated in PCDD/F.  相似文献

Dibenzofuran (DF) is formed from phenol and benzene in combustion gas exhaust streams prior to particle collection equipment. Subsequent chlorination at lower temperatures on particle surfaces is a potential source of chlorinated dibenzofuran (CDF). Gas streams containing 8% O2 and approximately 0.1% DF vapor were passed through particle beds containing copper (II) chloride (0.5% Cu, mass) at temperatures ranging from 200 to 400 °C to investigate the potential for CDF formation during particle collection. Experiment duration was sufficient to provide an excess amount of DF (DF/Cu=3). The efficiency of DF chlorination by CuCl2 and the distribution of CDF products were measured, with effects of temperature, gas velocity, and experiment duration assessed. Results of a more limited investigation of dibenzo-p-dioxin (DD) chlorination by CuCl2 to form chlorinated DD (CDD) products are also presented. The efficiency of DF/DD chlorination by CuCl2 was high, both in terms of CuCl2 utilization and DF/DD conversion. Total yields of Cl on CDF/CDD products of up to 0.5 mole Cl per mole CuCl2 were observed between 200 and 300 °C; this suggests that nearly 100% CuCl2 was utilized, assuming a conversion of two moles of CuCl2 to CuCl per mole Cl added to DD/DF. In a short duration experiment (DF/Cu=0.3), nearly 100% DF adsorption and conversion to CDF was achieved. The degree of CDF chlorination was strongly dependent on gas velocity. At high gas velocity, corresponding to a gas–particle contact time of 0.3 s, mono-CDF (MCDF) yield was largest, with yields decreasing with increasing CDF chlorination. At low gas velocity, corresponding to a gas–particle contact time of 5 s, octa-CDF yield was largest. DF/DD chlorination was strongly favored at lateral sites, with the predominant CDF/CDD isomers within each homologue group those containing Cl substituents at only the 2,3,7,8 positions. At the higher temperatures and lower gas velocities studied, however, broader isomer distributions, particularly of the less CDD/CDF products, were observed, likely due to preferential destruction of the 2,3,7,8 congeners.  相似文献

In conjunction with the OP3 campaign in Danum Valley, Malaysian Borneo, flux measurements of methyl chloride (CH3Cl) and methyl bromide (CH3Br) were performed from both tropical plant branches and leaf litter in June and July 2008. Live plants were mainly from the Dipterocarpaceae family whilst leaf litter samples were representative mixtures of different plant species. Environmental parameters, including photosynthetically-active radiation, total solar radiation and air temperature, were also recorded. The dominant factor determining magnitude of methyl halide fluxes from living plants was plant species, with specimens of the genus Shorea showing persistent high emissions of both gases, e.g. Shorea pilosa: 65 ± 17 ng CH3Cl h?1 g?1 (dry weight foliage) and 2.7 ± 0.6 ng CH3Br h?1 g?1 (dry weight foliage). Mean CH3Cl and CH3Br emissions across 18 species of plant were 19 (range, <LOD ?76) and 0.4 (<LOD ?2.9) ng h?1 g?1 respectively; fluxes from leaf litter were 1–2 orders of magnitude smaller per dry mass. CH3Cl and CH3Br fluxes were weakly correlated. Overall, the findings suggest that tropical rainforests make an important contribution to global terrestrial emissions of CH3Cl, but less so for CH3Br.  相似文献

Rate coefficients for the gas-phase reactions of Cl atoms with a series of unsaturated esters CH2C(CH3)C(O)OCH3 (MMA), CH2CHC(O)OCH3 (MAC) and CH2C(CH3)C(O)O(CH2)3CH3 (BMA) have been measured as a function of temperature by the relative technique in an environmental chamber with in situ FTIR detection of reactants. The rate coefficients obtained at 298 K in one atmosphere of nitrogen or synthetic air using propene, isobutene and 1,3-butadiene as reference hydrocarbons were (in units of 10?10 cm3 molecule?1 s?1) as follows: k(Cl+MMA) = 2.82 ± 0.93, k(Cl+MAC) = 2.04 ± 0.54 and k(Cl+BMA) = 3.60 ± 0.87. The kinetic data obtained over the temperature range 287–313 K were used to derive the following Arrhenius expressions (in units of cm3 molecule?1 s?1): k(Cl+MMA) = (13.9 ± 7.8) × 10?15 exp[(2904 ± 420)/T], k(Cl+MAC) = (0.4 ± 0.2) × 10?15 exp[(3884 ± 879)/T], k(Cl+BMA) = (0.98 ± 0.42) × 10?15 exp[(3779 ± 850)/T]. All the rate coefficients display a slight negative temperature dependence which points to the importance of the reversibility of the addition mechanism for these reactions. This work constitutes the first kinetic and temperature dependence study of the reactions cited above. An analysis of the available rates of addition of Cl atoms and OH radicals to the double bond of alkenes and unsaturated and oxygenated volatile organic compounds (VOCs) at 298 K has shown that they can be related by the expression: log kOH = 1.09 log kCl ? 0.10. In addition, a correlation between the reactivity of unsaturated VOCs toward OH radicals and Cl atoms and the HOMO of the unsaturated VOC is presented. Tropospheric implications of the results are also discussed.  相似文献

Several pharmaceuticals have been detected globally in surface water and drinking water, which indicate their insufficient removal from water and wastewater using conventional treatment methods. This paper reviews the kinetics of oxidative transformations of pharmaceuticals (antibiotics, lipid regulators, antipyretics, anticonvulsants, and beta-blockers) by Cl(2), ClO(2), O(3), and ferrate(VI) (Fe(VI)O(4)(2-),Fe(VI)) under treatment conditions. In the chlorination of sulfonamide antibiotics, HOCl is the major reactive Cl(2) species whereas in the oxidation by Fe(VI), HFeO(4)(-) is the dominant reactive species. Both oxidation processes can oxidize sulfonamides in seconds at a neutral pH (t(1/2)≤ 220 s; 1 mg L(-1) HOCl or K(2)FeO(4)). The reactivity of O(3) with pharmaceuticals is generally higher than that of HOCl (k(app,pH 7) (O(3))=1-10(7)M(-1)s(-1); k(app,pH 7) (HOCl)=10(-2)-10(5)M(-1)s(-1)). Ozone selectively oxidizes pharmaceuticals and reacts mainly with activated aromatic systems and non-protonated amines. Oxidative transformation of most pharmaceuticals by O(3) occurs in seconds (t(1/2)≤ 100 s; 1 mg L(-1) O(3)) while half-lives for oxidations by HOCl differ by at least two orders of magnitude. Ozone appears to be efficient in oxidizing pharmaceuticals in aquatic environments. The limited work on Fe(VI) shows that it can also potentially transform pharmaceuticals in treatment processes.  相似文献

As part of the Polar Sunrise Experiments (PSE) 1995, we report our results on measurement of non-methane hydrocarbons (NMHC) collected at Alert, Northwest Territories, Canada (82.5° N, 62.3° W) from Julian days 57 to 113, 1995 along with our data on continuous methane and ozone measurements during the same period. The concentration of NMHCs such as alkanes correlated well with that of methane during the dark period before polar sunrise. However, no correlation was observed after the sunrise. Several ozone depletion events and concurrent decreases in hydrocarbon concentrations relative to their background levels were observed. In all ozone depletion periods, concentration changes of alkanes and toluene were consistent with the occurrence of Cl-atom reactions. The characteristics of alkane isomer concentration changes suggest the dominance of HO chemistry prior to, and a switch to Cl chemistry after, the polar sunrise (during the ozone depletion events). The changes in ethyne concentration from their background level were in excess of those expected from Cl-atom kinetics alone and are attributed to additional Br-atom reactions. The time integral for Br mixing ratios is a few orders of magnitudes higher than that for Cl-atoms, suggesting much higher Br-atom concentrations compared to Cl-atom concentrations, if they are present simultaneously.  相似文献

The molecular structures of four unknown bioaccumulating halogenated compounds, C10H6N2Br3Cl3, C10H6N2Br4Cl2, C10H6N2Br5Cl, and C10H6N2Br6 were characterized using isotope exchange positive chemical ionization (IE-PCI) mass spectrometry (MS) and identified by comparison to synthesized standards. NH3 and ND3 were used as reagent gases for the IE-PCI-MS experiment. The shift in mass of the quasimolecular ion between the NH3 and ND3 PCI obtained spectra indicated the number of exchangeable hydrogens attached to the two nitrogen atoms in C10H6N2Br4Cl2, and thus the type of amines present (primary, secondary, or tertiary). 19 compounds (13 amines of varying degree of substitution; six containing no nitrogen) were used as reference compounds and controls in the experiment to validate the IE-PCI technique. The results of the IE-PCI-MS indicated the presence of two tertiary amine functional groups. The molecular structures of the four hexahalogenated compounds were then proposed to be 1,1'-dimethyl-3,3',4,-tribromo-4',5,5'-trichloro-2,2'-bipyrrole, 1,1'-dimethyl-3,3',4,4'-tetrabromo-5,5'-dichloro-2,2'-bipyrrole, 1,1'-dimethyl-3,3',4,4',5-pentabromo-5'-chloro-2,2'-bipyrrole, and 1,1'-dimethyl-3,3',4,4',5,5'-hexabromo-2,2'-bipyrrole and subsequently synthesized. Comparison of retention times and electron capture negative ionization (ECNI) full scans on various gas chromatography (GC) columns between the synthesized bipyrroles and the corresponding unknown compounds in biota indicated that three of the unknown compounds--possible marine natural products--were the proposed halogenated dimethyl bipyrroles. The placement of the halogen atoms on the fourth compound, C10H6N2Br3Cl3 could not be unequivocally determined since the synthesized standard could not be fully characterized.  相似文献

Halide salts accelerate degradation of high explosives by zerovalent iron   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Zerovalent iron (Fe(0), ZVI) has drawn great interest as an inexpensive and effective material to promote the degradation of environmental contaminants. A focus of ZVI research is to increase degradation kinetics and overcome passivation for long-term remediation. Halide ions promote corrosion, which can increase and sustain ZVI reactivity. Adding chloride or bromide salts with Fe(0) (1% w/v) greatly enhanced TNT, RDX, and HMX degradation rates in aqueous solution. Adding Cl or Br salts after 24h also restored ZVI reactivity, resulting in complete degradation within 8h. These observations may be attributed to removal of the passivating oxide layer and pitting corrosion of the iron. While the relative increase in degradation rate by Cl(-) and Br(-) was similar, TNT degraded faster than RDX and HMX. HMX was most difficult to remove using ZVI alone but ZVI remained effective after five HMX reseeding cycles when Br(-) was present in solution.  相似文献

"AOX" is the abbreviation of the sum parameter for water soluble "adsorbable organic halogens" in which 'A' stands for adsorbable, 'O' for organic and 'X' for the halogens chlorine, bromine and iodine. After the introduction of the AOX in 1976, this parameter has been correctly used for "real" AOX constituents (DDT and its metabolites, PCBs, etc.) but also misused for non-adsorbable adsorbed OX-compounds, mostly high molecular organohalogens in plants and even to inorganic compounds being neither organic nor adsorbable. The question of natural "Adsorbable Organic Halogens" (AOX) formed by living organisms and/or during natural abiogenic processes has been definitively solved by the known existence of already more than 3650 organohalogen compounds, amongst them the highly reactive, cancerogenic vinyl chloride (VC).The extension of the AOX to AOX-S18 for Sludges and Sediments, in which A stands for adsorbed (not for adsorbable) is questionable. It includes the most important water insoluble technical organochlorine product: polyvinyl chloride, PVC.In addition to organic halogens it also includes inorganic, mineralogenic halides, incorporated mainly in the crystal lattice of fine grained phyllosilicates, the typical clay minerals (kaolinite, montmorillonite, illite and chlorite) which are main constituents of sediments and sedimentary rocks representing the major part of the sedimentary cover of the earth.Other phyllosilicates, biotite and muscovite, major constituents of granites and many metamorphic rocks (gneiss and mica schist) will also contribute to the AOX-S18 especially in soils as result of weathering processes.Since chlorine is incorporated into the mineral structure and, as a consequence, not soluble by the nitric acid analytical step (pH 0.5) of the S18 determination, it will account to the AOX-S18 in the final charcoal combustion step at temperatures >950 degrees C.After heavy rainfalls sewage sludge composition is strongly influenced by mineralogenic components derived from the erosion of fine grained sediments or soils. Assuming 50% geogenic particles with a mean Cl concentration of 103 mg/kg (as in shales and clays) the mineralogenic Cl-content could add about 50 mg/kg to the organic AOX in sewage sludge. The occurrence of insoluble and non-adsorbable PVC in sewage sludge exhibits the same problems as the mineralogenic constituents: a detection as AOX-S18 is possible when the final high temperature analytical step is applied.Plants as major sources of organohalogens have never been doubted.Only recently [Science 295 (2002) 985] based on the determination of the form of Cl with near-edge X-ray adsorption fine structure (NEXAFS) spectroscopy and extended X-ray adsorption showed the variations in the inorganic Cl(-) and organo-Cl compounds with increasing humification of plant leaves from "fresh leaves--senescent leaves on plants--senescent leaves on soil--powdered top soil--isolated soil humus". His finding of exclusively inorganic Cl(-) in the starting material (fresh leaves) is controverse to our earlier results indicating the presence of ionic inorganic Cl together with water insoluble absorbed organohalogens (AOX-S18) in eight different macrophytes of both terrestrial and marine environments. Our research on AOX in interstitial water of anaerobic limnic sediments has led to the role of bromine playing in the diagenesis of the organic matter of sediments. In sediments of Lake Constance Br(-) concentrations in lake water at the sediment water interface increased from <0.01 to 0.25 mg/l in the pore water at 77 cm sediment depth. In the Neckar River a Br concentrations of 0.02 mg/l at the water/sediment interface increasing to 0.74 mg/l in pore water in 85 cm depth was found. Here a parallel development could be found with ammonium concentration and alkalinity. The very high positive correlation ammonium:bromide and bromide:alkalinity leads to the conclusion, that bromine, originally a high molecular constituent of the organic matter, is released as bromide during an early dehalogenation stage of diagenesis. The mlusion, that bromine, originally a high molecular constituent of the organic matter, is released as bromide during an early dehalogenation stage of diagenesis. The main general reason to discard the AOX sum parameter as a whole lies in the fact, that adsorbable halogenated substances cannot a priori be categorized as natural/anthropogenic, biotic/abiotic, harmful/harmless. If applied to sludges and sediments, adsorbed organohalogens are not water soluble and therefore not adsorbable, and mineralogenic halogens (X) are neither organic nor adsorbable, and therefore by definition no AOX.  相似文献

The laser photolysis/laser induced fluorescence (LP/LIF) technique has been applied to studies of gas-phase mercury (Hg) chlorination. Mercury (I) chloride (HgCl) was been detected via LIF at 272 nm from reactions of elemental Hg with Cl atoms generated from the 193 nm photolysis of carbon tetrachloride. While the formation of HgCl was too fast to be observed on millisecond time scales, the kinetics of the consumption of HgCl have been determined at temperatures characteristic of post-combustion conditions. Rate coefficients and Arrhenius parameters for the reaction of HgCl with Cl2, HCl and Cl atoms were determined. The reaction of HgCl with Cl2 was the fastest reaction studied, while the reaction of HgCl with HCl was the only reaction to show any measurable temperature dependence. Estimates of the rate coefficient for the reaction Hg + Cl --> HgCl were determined using a modeling approach. Comparisons of these new measurements with model predictions are discussed.  相似文献
