In the latter part of 1974, the TC-1 Committee of the APCA undertook a survey of four (4) major user industries of electrostatic pre-cipitators. The purpose of the survey was to establish the users’ degree of satisfaction with this equipment from an operational and a maintenance viewpoint. Specific areas of maintenance requirements were investigated as well as the nature of difficulty experienced. The 174 responses received covered user experience with 243 precipi-tators of various manufacturers. This paper reports on the results of this survey and gives the statistics derived. The conclusions reached should be beneficial to the user and the manufacturer in the areas of product improvement and maintenance.

This is the first of this type of survey handled by the TC-1 Committee, and it will be followed by Fabric Filter and Scrubber information gathering questionnaires. Problem areas so defined will be enlarged upon in future seminars planned under APCA auspices.  相似文献

Informative Report No. 11 dealing with the air pollution potential of phthalic anhydride manufacture is one of a series of survey reports prepared by APCA’s TI-2 Chemical Committee on air pollution problems and control measures encountered in the chemical industry today. Phthalic anhydride, typical of those intermediate synthetic organics produced for and used in the manufacture of many consumer products, is used in the production of paints, plastics, and synthetic resins.  相似文献

This report, published as Technical Data Sheet No. 1 of the Air Pollution Control Association’s TA-7 Odor and Gas Treatment Committee, has been in the 14 step approval procedure of APCA’s Technical Council and Board of Directors for over two years. The Committee is attempting a new departure in this report which would be reflected in future reports. It has attempted to write a brief summary of a typical case history in a concise fashion on one sheet. Comments made by members of the Technical Council and Board of Directors were considered in the preparation of the final report. It is now published as representing the “best thinking of the Association.”  相似文献

The Third Government Affairs Seminar sponsored by the Air Pollution Control Association was held in Washington, D. C. on April 16-17, 1975. The APCA South Atlantic Section was host for this very successful meeting. The General Chairman of the Seminar Committee was John V. Brink and the Program Chairman was Richard D. Grundy.

The seminar this year was conducted in three sessions. The first session, entitled “The Clean Air Act: State vs Federal Roles,” considered a topic that is receiving increasing emphasis as the national air pollution control program matures. This discussion was chaired by M. Barry Meyer, Chief Counsel and Chief Clerk, Senate Committee on Public Works.

The second session was “Land Use Planning Aspects of the Clean Air Act—Federal, State and Regional Roles.” Mrs. Mary Jane Due, Chairman of the Public Land and Land Use Committee, Natural Resources Section, American Bar Association, served as Moderator of this discussion of indirect source regulations, no significant deterioration, air quality maintenance—concepts that rely heavily on comprehensive land use planning.

“Clean Air Priorities—The Need for Flexibility,” was the title of the third session which was chaired by Austin H. Phelps, Manager Corporate Air Pollution Control, Procter and Gamble Company and President of APCA. The panelists considered the question of how appropriate the standard setting mechanisms of the Clean Air Act are for the resolution of present and future problems.

In this report condensed versions of the prepared statements of the participants are presented. A more extensive summary of the Proceedings, which includes questions and answers, is available from APCA headquarters. The remarks of John R. Quarles, EPA Deputy Administrator, who was the luncheon speaker, were summarized in the June APCA Journal(p. 642).  相似文献

Baghouse operation and maintenance is probably the most serious problem area of fabric filter operations. Committee TC-1 (Particulates) of the Air Pollution Control Association recently surveyed baghouse installations in'the United States for the purpose of gathering information on operation and maintenance procedures and problems. One hundred thirty-three questionnaires were completed and returned. In this paper, the results of a comprehensive analysis of these data are described and interpreted. A multiple-choice type of compilation of the responses has been used to permit statistical interpretation of the results. Due to the length of the questionnaire and the tables which resulted from the analysis, these are described but not included in the following paper. They are available from the TC-1 Committee c/o APCA.  相似文献

The APCA Critical Review entitled “Ozone Air Quality Models” was presented by John H. Seinfeld, Louis E. Nohl Professor and Executive Officer for Chemical Engineering at the California Institute of Technology, Pasadena, California. Dr. Seinfeld presented his review at the 81st APCA Annual Meeting & Exhibition, held in Dallas, Texas in June 1988. The Critical Review paper, published in the May 1988 issue of JAPCA, highlighted recent advances and continuing problem areas in photochemical air quality modeling. Prepared discussions and floor comments presented during the Critical Review session in Dallas are published here, along with additional comments and closing remarks by Dr. Seinfeld. Howard M. Ellis, Chairman of the Critical Review Subcommittee of the Publications Committee, served as moderator of the 1988 APCA Critical Review session.  相似文献

Introduction
The following papers were presented at a technical session held during the 76th APCA Annual Meeting and Exhibition in Atlanta, Georgia in June 1983. The session, which focussed on the relationship between atmospheric deposition and forest activity, was organized by J. S. Jacobson and S. B. McLaughlin, Jr., and sponsored Jby APCA's TT-8 Acid Deposition Committee.  相似文献

A report of the S-l 1 Committee on existing air pollution training activities within the continental United States, delineating the location and size of programs. The report further emphasizes the shortage of trained personnel and training activities. To alleviate these problems, cooperative effort is proposed on the part of APCA to promote local training activities.  相似文献

APCA Is Thriving
Fiscal nineteen seventy three-four was another busy year for the Association. It was a year of expanded services, publications, and meetings. New initiatives on the part of the Board of Directors, the Technical Council and its committees, local APCA Sections and the Headquarters staff were undertaken. All of the statistical reports are positive, and show increased membership, pages published, advertising, meetings, and involvement of members. But of more importance, APCA is filling its role in a positive and meaningful way, and is continuing to attract persons working in the air pollution control profession to its many programs.

As most of you know by now, dues for individual members have been increased from $25 to $35 annually because of the continued inflation in postage, paper, and cost of doing business.  相似文献

Concentration levels of total suspended particles (TSP) and 27 major, minor and trace elemental components were determined at four sites in Kosovo through a 1-year survey (January-December 2002). Ambient concentrations were evaluated in comparison to limit values. The origin of elemental TSP constituents was investigated by calculating enrichment factors and diagnostic ratios. Multivariate statistics, such as hierarchical cluster analysis and factor analysis, were also employed to identify emission sources. A multivariate statistical receptor model (Absolute Principal Component Analysis, APCA) was applied to quantify source contributions. Soil dust, cement production, vehicular emissions, brake wear, and fuel combustion were identified as major sources with variable contributions at the four sampling sites.  相似文献
