The catfish, H. fossilis were exposed to endosulfan for 30 days at sub-lethal concentration (0.002 ppm) during different phases of its annual reproductive cycle. Its impact on total (TP) and different phospholipids- phosphatidylcholine (PC), phosphatidylserine (PS), phosphatdylinositol (Pl) and phosphatidylethanolamine (PE) were measured in liver plasma and ovary. On pesticide exposure, during preparatory phase, the hepatic TP PC and PE were declined. The plasma levels of TP, PC and PS were declined with the elevation of PE whereas in ovary only PC was lowered after endosulfan exposure. During pre-spawning phase, the hepatic TP, PC and PE declined in liver plasma and ovary after endosulfan exposure. During spawning phase, only plasma and ovarian phospholipids showed decrease in their levels following endosulfan exposure. In the post-spawning phase, endosulfan elevated the levels of TP, PC and PS in ovary but had no effect on their levels in liver and plasma. During resting phase, the TP, PC and Pl were found to be decreasing its levels. Thus it appears that this pesticide interfere with phospholipids metabolism during annual reproductive cycle of this species.  相似文献

The tissue cholesterol and serum cortisol changes during four reproductive phases has been studied in the freshwater fish Notopterus notopterus of male sex during four phases, preparatory (January - March), prespawning (April - May), spawning (August - September) and post spawning (November - December). The cholesterol content of the testis and liver increased during preparatory phase and maximum content of cholesterol was during spawning phase. The serum cortisol estimated by radioimmunoassay (RIA) technique which indicated that the level of the hormone was high during pre-spawning and spawning phases compared to other two phases. The increase in cholesterol during preparatory and spawning phases may be because of increase in cortisol synthesis needed for testicular growth and spermetogenesis during these phases. The gonadosomatic index (GSI) also increased during these phases.  相似文献

Ovarian development in Labeo dyocheilus was assessed during active reproductive phase under ambient environmental conditions in captivity and wild. Increasing day length and water temperature seemed favourable for ovarian development in female L. dyocheilus under both conditions. Gonadosomatic index (GSI) was lower in May and higher in July in captivity (6.168 and 13.366) and wild (5.798 and 16.166) respectively Ovarian development started little bit in advance in captivity with late yolk vesicle stage oocyte in May when yolk globule stage oocytes were prominent in wild. Fully grown oocytes with germinal vesicle migration (GVM) and germinal vesicle breakdown (GVBD) stages were observed in July in both conditions. Degree of transformation of developing oogonials into advance stage oocytes was observed to be better in wild fish compared to captivity reared ones. The histophysiological changes in liver corresponded well to the progression of ovarian development. Successive granulation and vacuolization of hepatocyte cytoplasm were indicative of augmented synthetic activity and probably mobilization of energy content for oocyte growth. These observations indicated that normal ovarian development of L. dyocheilus under captivity in Tarai region of Uttarakhand would be useful for success of its seed production in captivity for stock augmentation in wild or species diversification in aquaculture.  相似文献

Effect of cumulative doses of estradiol -17beta (E2-7, 14 and 28 mg/kg body weight) and 17alpha, 20beta-dihydroxy-4-pregnen-3-one (17alpha,20betaP-7, 14 and 28 mg/kg body weight) on total phospholipids (TP) and various phospholipids- phosphatidylcholine (PC), phosphatidylserine (PS), phosphatidylinositol (PI) and phosphatidylethanolamine (PE) on liver plasma and ovary were investigated during the reproductively active preparatory and prespawning phases of the annual reproductive cycle in the freshwater female catfish, H. fossilis. The effect of E2 on TP was generally stimulatory and has pronounced effect than 17alpha,20betaP during both the phases. The levels of PC was promoted high during prespawning phase by E2 comparatively very less than by 17alpha, 20betaP in studied tissues during both the phases. The levels of PS after E2 treatments was maximum in all tissues during prespawning phase whereas 17alpha,20betaP was effective only in liver during this phase. The PI was elevated in liver during preparatory phase but its elevation was in all studied tissues during prespawning phase after E2 treatments. The levels of PI was most effective in ovary during preparatory phase in response to 17alpha,20betaP. The levels of PE was declined in liver but elevated in ovary after E2 treatments during both the phases. Treatments of E2 during preparatory phase showed greater number of vitellogenic oocytes as compared to 17alpha,20betaP treatments. The present finding has demonstrated that estradiol-17beta has more pronounced effects than the 17alpha,20beta P in regulation of different phospholipids and ovarian recrudescence during reproductively active phases and among the phospholipids the PC is the main phospholipids of vitellogenin/ovarian lipids in H. fossilis.  相似文献

Oogenesis in polychaetes has, in most species, two main phases: a coelomic phase during which vitellogenesis occurs, and an ovarian phase. Details of the latter are known in very few species. Efficient reproduction requires coordination between these two phases of oocyte differentiation. The ovaries of Cirratulus cirratus (O. F. Müller) occur 2/segment throughout the fertile region of the body; 5 main stages of oocyte differentiation can be recognised on them: stem cells, oogonia, premeiotic oocytes, early oocytes and terminal oocytes. A quantitative study of the composition of the ovary throughout the reproductive cycle shows that the ovary size is approximately constant, but that the percentage of cells in the terminal oocyte stage is reduced to zero prior to spawning. This stage in oocyte differentiation is therefore a critical one, at which oogenesis may be arrested. The ovary alternates between a proliferative phase when the terminal oocytes are present, and a non-proliferative phase when they are absent. The overall rate of germ cell production for each ovary is low, less than 1 cell/ovary/day, and the, ovary tissue turnover time is greater than 2 years. A qualitative model describing the production of oocytes is presented, and the implications of the low rate of germ cell production are discussed. A low rate of germ cell proliferation, as in Cirratulus cirratus, implies that the rate of oocyte output into the coelom will be controlled by factors influencing the later stages of ovarian oocyte differentiation.  相似文献

In Channa punctatus testicular regression commonly observed during spawning and postspawing phases of reproductive cycle. In the present study testicular regression was frequently noticed in fish maintained under both long photoperiod-warm temperature (LD 16 : 8-30 degrees C) and short photoperiod-warm temperature (LD 8 : 16-30 degrees C) regimes. Testicular regression was characterized by distortion of cellular boundary of lobules and formation of collagenous capsules containing degenerating germ cells, blood cells and colloidal mass within the lobules. The magnitude of testicular regression was more in fish exposed to short photoperiod regime (R-73.33%, SP-41.67%) than long photoperiod regime (R-50.83%, SP-19.16%) and control group (R-20.83%, SP-16.67%) in both resting (R) and spawning (SP) phases. Further the frequency of testicular regression during resting phase was 73.33% (short photoperiod), 50.83% (long photoperiod) and 20.83% (control) whereas during spawning phase was 41.67% (short photoperiod) 19.16% (long photoperiod) and 16.67% (control). In the present study occurrence of more testicular regression during resting phase than spawning phase may be due to change in the endogenous condition of the fish.  相似文献

Female kuruma prawns (Penaeus japonicus Bate) with undeveloped, early developing, developing, nearly ripe and ripe ovaries, were collected from Ise Bay, Japan, in 1984. Oocyte development of the kuruma prawn was classified into ten stages according to morphological characters, namely: (1) synapsis stage, (2) chromatin nucleolus stage, (3) early perinucleolus stage, (4) late perinucleolus stage, (5) oil globule Stage I, (6) oil globule Stage II, (7) yolkless stage, (8) yolk granule stage, (9) prematuration stage, and (10) maturation stage. The synapsis stage is a multiplication stage. The chromatin nucleolus stage, early and late perinucleolus stages are previtellogenesis and primary growth stages. Oil globule Stage I is an initial stage of primary vitellogenesis and secondary growth. Follicle cells on the oil globule Stage I oocytes expand rapidly and reach maximum size during oogenesis. Yolk granule stage oocytes are in the initial stages of secondary vitellogenesis. Strongly acidophilic yolk granules accumulate within basophilic vesicles of the cytoplasm. The yolk granules are first concentrated in the inner part of the cytoplasm, then gradually spread to the periphery. Cortical crypts, which are separated from the oocyte cytoplasm by the cytoplasmic membrane, are situated outside of oocyte cytoplasm. Germinal vesicle breakdown (GVBD) is initiated in the late phase of prematuration and continues until the late phase of maturation immediately prior to spawning. At the beginning of the maturation stage, the oocytes are ovulated, after which the nuclei further shrink and migrate out-wards. After ovulation, meiotic division of the ovarian oocyte progressed up to the metaphase of primary maturation division. Finally, the meiotic metaphase is visible just beneath the cytoplasmic membrane in the mature oocyte. Though ovulation is synchronous within the same ovary, GVBD is not completely synchronous. Ovulated mature oocytes have many club-shaped cortical crypts in the peripheral part of the cytoplasm and contain extensive accumulations of yolk granules dispersed throughout the cytoplasm. The apical end of the club-shaped cortical crypts and cytoplasmic membrane are coated by the vitellin envelope in the mature oocyte.  相似文献

The effect of chronic exposure to carbofuran (4.5 ppm in static water) for six months on the gonadal histophysiology and hypothalamo-neurohypophyseal complex was studied in Channa punctatus. Experimental observations revealed significant inhibition of gonadal development with associated degenerative abnormalities as evidenced by ovarian and testicular histology and reduced gonadosomatic index. Degenerative changes in ovary were exihibited by stage I (oogonium) and stage II (immature/non-vitellogenic) oocytes as marked by perinuclear ooplasmic lysis, clumping and dissolution resulting in disintigration of nuclear material altogether attributed to complete degeneration of such oocytes. Testicular deleterious changes included degeneration of spermatogenic elements and necrosis of interstitial cells of Leydig. Correlative histophysiological changes were also observed in the pituitary gonadotrophs and hypothalamic, nucleus pre-opticus, neurons that were smaller, inactive and less in number with associated necrosis. Corresponding to the changes in nucleus pre-opticus neurons, significant inhibition of brain monoamine oxidase enzyme activity was also recorded in treated group. These observations suggest that carbofuran even at low concentration level under long-term exposure is capable of inducing retardation of gonadal development which might have been mediated through the impairment of the hypothalamo-neurohypophyseal-gonadal axis in this species.  相似文献

Male Heteropneustes fossilis were exposed for 30 days at sublethal concentration (0.002 ppm) during different phases of its annual reproductive cycle. Its impact on total phospholipids (TP), phosphatidylcholine (PC), phosphatidylserine (PS), phosphatdylinositol (PI) and phosphatidylethanolamine (PE) were measured in liver, plasma and testes. During preparatory phase, in general, the levels for TP, PC, PS, PI and PE decreased after endosulfan exposure in the above tissues. During prespawning and spawning phases, the phospholipids also showed decreasing trend. The postspawning phase, exhibited decline in hepatic levels of PS and PI only and remained unaffected in the other two tissues. During the resting phase too, the hepatic levels of TP, PS and PI declined and remained unaltered in others. The present results indicate that endosulfan have very selective effects on phospholipids classes during different phases of the annual reproductive cycle interfering with the production of lipid deprived energy i.e. vitellogenin. In general, endosulfan has inhibitory role during reproductive growth affecting phospholipid biosynthesis via hepatic enzyme systems as well as by hormonal imbalance.  相似文献

The annual cycle of ovarian activity and eyestalk effects on the ovary in different phases of its activity were examined in the crab Rhithropanopeus harrisii Gould ssp. tridentatus Maitland, and the sand shrimp Crangon crangon L. In both species, the annual ovarian cycle consists of two phases of vitellogenesis and the resting phase. In R. harrisii, the eyestalks exert an inhibitory effect on vitellogenesis during the phase of vitellogenesis outside the breeding season, and are necessary for the process of oviposition during the breeding season. In C. crangon, ovary-inhibiting hormone is present in the eyestalks outside the breeding season, and has not been detected during this season. The resting phase of the ovary after the breeding season is caused by the ovary-inhibitiing hormone. Females of C. crangon are a suitable material for testing ovary-inhibiting hormone activity, while female R. harrisii are not.  相似文献

In the present study, effect of cortisol on the ovary of the freshwater fish Notopterus notopterus was studied during four phases of the reproductive cycle. The hormone was injected 60microg/fish for ten days. Cortisol in fish is known to increase the metabolic activity. After the hormone treatment the ovarian somatic index and the hepatosomatic index increases during non breeding phase. The young oocytes transferred into vitellogenic oocytes in all the phases after cortisol treatment. The cortisol induced increased ovarian activity may be due to increase in the metabolic activity through the involvement of hepatic cells specially during non-breeding period providing support for energy production for reproductive activity in the freshwater fish N. notopterus.  相似文献

A 3-year study was conducted on a population of Nicolea zostericola (Oersted: Grube, 1860) at Nahant, Massachusetts (USA), which indicated that this species has a life span of about 1 year. Spawing occurred from mid-April to early July, after a rise in sea-water temperature to about 6°C. Pair formation occurred between sexually mature adults prior to and during spawning. Eggs were deposited in cocoons, where development occurred in 14 to 22 days. Larval develomment is described along with juvenile and adult substrate preferences and behavior. The entire intertidal population disappears following the spawning season in late June, and reappears in September as a result of migration of worms from the sub-littoral zone. Oogenesis consists of 3 phases: a short gonadal and follicular phase, followed by a longer vitellogenic phase during which oocytes are free-floating in the coelomic fluid.Contribution no. 31 from the Marine Science Institute, Northeastern University, Nahant, Massachusetts, USA.  相似文献

Spawning pattern (assessed by seasonal changes in ovarian developmental stages) and type of fecundity (assessed by analysis of oocyte-size frequency distributions) of the round herring Etrumeus teres were studied in relation to ovarian growth and seasonal changes in the gonadosomatic (GSI), hepatosomatic (HSI) and liposomatic (LSI) index as well as the somatic condition of spawners (CS) in a spawning ground of southern Japan. Except for summer, mature and recently spawned ovaries occurred all year round. Oogonia and primary oocytes were present in all ovaries, and cortical alveoli stage (CA) oocytes occurred in all mature, hydrated and partially spent (PS) females (PS: females containing post-ovulatory follicles). Before hydration, a clutch of larger yolked oocytes, undergoing synchronous growth (range 0.7–1.1 mm), was present in mature ovaries which was completely separated from a more heterogeneous clutch of oogonia, primary and secondary oocytes (<0.150 mm) and oocytes in the CA stage (range 0.15–0.60 mm). As vitellogenesis progressed, the yolked clutch increased in size but the CA oocytes remained arrested. The latter entered into the secondary growth phase when hydration started in the advanced batch. Ovarian growth was isometric in all developmental stages, validating the use of GSI, which showed a consistent monthly evolution among years. Spawning stopped in summer (July and August) and peaked in winter and spring. HSI correlated positively with GSI on both a monthly mean basis (r = 0.76) and individual fish basis (liver weight explained 67–83% of the variability in ovary weight when females were grouped into 1-unit GSI intervals) suggesting a significant role of liver in vitellogenesis. LSI and CS also showed marked seasonal changes peaking from summer to middle autumn. Overall results suggest that E. teres is a multiple spawner with a group-synchronous ovarian development and indeterminate annual fecundity, with the three processes linked to an isometric growth of the ovary. We propose that such a reproductive pattern is an adaptation to produce batches of large pelagic eggs through a protracted spawning season.  相似文献

Changes in the wet weights and lipid contents of muscle, liver and gonad were determined in male and female Mallotus villosus in Balsfjorden, northern Norway, in 1981, from January, when gonadal development becomes noticeable, until May when the fish are spawning. Fatty acid compositions of tissue lipids were also determined. Over 4 mo prior to spawning, the weight of muscle in female capelin decreased by 32% while the weight of the ovary increased exponentially by 830%. In males the weight of the muscle remained constant and that of the testis decreased slightly. The lipid contents of the muscle of both males and females decreased by 76% over the period and an inverse relationship existed between the water and lipid contents of muscle in both sexes. Male liver weight remained constant over the period of study whereas female liver weight increased transiently by 300% between January and March. 38% of the lipid lost from female muscle was accounted for by lipid deposited in ovary whereas negligible amounts of the lipid lost from male muscle was accounted for by lipid in the testis. Gonadal lipid was always richer in polyunsaturated fatty acids than muscle lipid and, immediately prior to spawning, 42% of the fatty acids in ovarian lipid were polyunsaturated. Muscle lipid of males and females showed a progressive increase in the percentage of the long-chain monoenes 20:1 and 22:1 between January and May. It is concluded that male capelin catabolise more of their muscle lipid reserves than females in the 4 mo prior to spawning and that most of the lipid catabolism in males is associated with physical activity. Conversely, females deposit much more of their muscle lipid in gonads than males, although considerable selectivity occurs in the mobilisation of fatty acids from muscle lipid into ovarian lipid. Additionally, biosynthesis of gonadal constituents accounts for a considerable proportion of the lipid catabolised in females.  相似文献

Dendrochirus brachypterus possesses a special type of ovary in which the germinative epithelium surrounds a spongy stroma hanging in the lumen. The inner side of the ovarian wall is covered by a special type of epithelium that produces a gelatinous envelope around the gametes (spawn) during reproduction. In general, oogenesis in the lion fish resembles that of other teleosts, the characteristic difference being in the formation of ovigerous peduncles-protrusions of the spongy stroma, each of which bears a single oocyte. During oogenesis the oocytes rise above the germinal epithelium, enveloped in their follicular epithelia. The larger the oocyte the greater the length of its peduncles and the further its position from the germinal layer (Fig. 3). During this phase of development, a marked multiplication of yolk granules occurs; they increase their diameter and finally homogenize at ovulation. Under favorable thermal conditions, oogenesis continues all year round. The peduncular growth of oocytes enables the growing egg cells to move away from the egg-producing surface, thus making space available for the ovary to produce more eggs. This ability should have a survival value for these fish if we take into consideration that the most vulnerable stage in their life history is that of planktonic larvae (Fishelson, 1975).  相似文献

We investigated the growth and reproductive biology of the penaeid shrimp Trachysalambria curvirostris in Tokyo Bay, Japan, by monthly bottom-trawl surveys from May 2002 to December 2004. We also examined oogenesis in T. curvirostris by histological observation of the ovary. Females grew faster and attained a larger body size for age than males. The growth rate was high in summer and low in winter and was likely to be associated with seasonal changes in water temperature. The carapace length (CL) at which 50% of females contained vitellogenic oocytes was estimated to be 17.0 mm. The reproductive season extended from May to October. Young-of-the-year appeared in October and could be traced across the months on CL histograms to the following September or October, indicating a 1-year life cycle. This extended reproductive season, together with our observation of asynchronous development of oocytes in the ovary, suggests that multiple spawning by individual females may occur during the reproductive season. Postovulated oocytes were not found among the samples we collected during the daytime, suggesting that final oocyte maturation and spawning occur at night. Cortical crypts in the cytoplasm of the oocyte, considered to be a general feature of oogenesis in penaeid shrimps, were not found in T. curvirostris, even in oocytes undergoing germinal vesicle breakdown. This result implies that the cortical reaction after spawning of T. curvirostris may be different from that of other penaeid shrimps.  相似文献

Adaptive processes linked to reproduction were studied comparatively for three populations of Northern krill, Meganyctiphanes norvegica (M. Sars, 1857), sampled during winter and summer cruises in the Clyde Sea (W Scotland), the Kattegat (E Denmark), and the Ligurian Sea (NW Mediterranean). The aim was to investigate the functional relationship between egg production and moulting under contrasted climatic and environmental conditions. A staging system for female sexual development established for live krill was complemented by a histological study of the ovary at various developmental steps. During the reproductive season, all adult female krill were engaged in cyclical egg production. During experiments, female krill released one batch of mature oocytes in one or two spawning events. The ovary of postspawn female krill still contained developing oocytes for another egg batch. In the non-reproductive period, all female krill had a resting ovary. Ovarian structure and pattern of egg production were identical in the three populations, but seasonal timing of egg production was different. The model proposed for the Ligurian population of the annual cycle of ovarian development can be extended to the other two populations, taking into account the seasonal characteristics of each site. Random field samples were staged simultaneously for moult cycle and for sexual development. Moult stages and the seasonal variation of the intermoult period were studied for the Kattegat population using multi-year data and compared to data obtained during summer/winter cruises in the Clyde and the Ligurian Sea. At the three sites, intermoult period was shorter and temperature-dependent during the reproductive period, concurrent with the season of greatest food availability. During most of the year and the period of sexual rest, moulting activity was reduced. The relationship between spawning and the moult cycle was studied comparatively for the three populations. Eggs were released during the premoult phase of a “spawning moult cycle”, in one or two spawnings associated with apolysis and Moult Stage D1, respectively. Yolk accumulation for the next egg batch was completed during an alternating “vitellogenic moult cycle”. A model for the timing of cyclical egg production in relation to moulting, as proposed for the Kattegat, can be extended to the other populations, taking into account intermoult period variation with temperature. Temperature appeared to be the principal environmental factor controlling growth (through moulting) and egg production during the reproductive season, in connection with favourable trophic conditions. The study on the mathematical relationship between length and weight of fishes has considerable importance in fishery research especially for the study of fish population dynamics and patterns of growth in fish stocks. This aspect is useful in rationally managing the population of fishes, and is an index of relative robustness of the fish). Variations from expected weight or length of an individual fish or group of fish indicate the general well being and state of gonadal development. The condition of fish can be influenced by the onset of maturity. The results indicate that the overall condition of the female and male fish seems to get improved towards the approach of maturing and mature stages of the gonads during pre-spawning phases. The reduction in the condition factor (K) and somatic condition factor (Ks) during spawning phase may be because of the fish becoming exhausted due to spawning activity. Although improvement in the condition of the fish was observed on the approach of breeding period, the overall condition seems to be better in the aquatic body from which the fish was collected.  相似文献

Seasonal cycle in energy content of gonad, perivisceral fat, liver, and muscle was used to estimate the energy cost of spawning of female red porgy (Pagrus pagrus) from Buenos Aires coasts, Argentina. Spawning was observed primarily between November and January, although a low-intensity spawning was also observed at the beginning of this period. The energy required for gonad development of female red porgy (the difference between the maximum and minimum energy content of ovaries along the year) was 2,652 J g−1 dry weight or 558 kJ. Female red porgy expend 22.8% of their total body energy (3,481 kJ) during the spawning period. Of this energy, relative contributions from different sources were as follows: ovaries 62.5% (496 kJ), perivisceral fat 17.8% (142 kJ), liver 10.3% (82 kJ), and muscles 9.4% (75 kJ). Female spawners lost about 7.2% (119 g) of their total body weight (1,654 g) in the spawning period. From the 7.2% of the total weight lost, female gonad represented a relative reduction of 73.8% (87.6 g), the perivisceral fat declined by 5.7% (6.8 g), the liver declined by 10.6% (12.5 g), and muscle tissue exhibited a 10% loss in total weight (11.9 g). Reproductive effort represented 7.6% of food energy, while resting metabolism accounted for almost 38% of food energy. Despite the fact that red porgy females feed throughout the entire spawning period, it is shown that between pre-spawning (September, water temperature 15°C) and mid-spawning (December, water temperature 19°C) they lost 45 and 38% of their muscle and liver lipids, respectively, and 89% of the perivisceral fat associated with the gut and body cavity. Red porgy used both their energy reserves and food energy during ovarian maturation. This asynchronous species have a strategy of a lower energy allocation and a higher dependence of food during the spawning time (late-spring and summer) for successful reproduction.  相似文献

Speciments of the red frog crab, Ranina ranina, examined in this study were collected off Hachijojima, Japan from 1987–1988 and 1990–1991. Ovigerous females occurred from May to September, and their carapace length ranged from 61.8 to 102.1 mm. Minimum size at the maturity was estimated to be 50 to 60 mm carapace length. The lobule-type ovary had a longitudinal ovarian cavity at the center. Germinal zones were located along the sides of the cavity. Oogenesis was divided into five main and ten detailed stages: proliferation (oogonium); previtellogenesis (bouquet, early chromatin nucleolus, late chromatin nucleolus); primary vitellogenesis (oil globule and yolk granule); secondary vitellogenesis (primary yolk platelet, secondary yolk platelet and prematuration); and maturation (maturation) stages. Vitellogenesis started at the oil globule stage when weakly positive periodic acid-Schiff granules appear in the cytoplasm. Based on the gonadosomatic index and histological changes in ovary, the reproductive cycle was divided into five stages: multiplication, from December to January; developing, from February to March; ripe in April and early May; spawning, from late May to August; and recovery, from August to November. Each crab spawned more than once during the spawning season.  相似文献
