N,N′-bis(trans-cinnamaldehyde)-1,2-diiminoethane and its derivatives were designed and synthesized. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and nuclear magnetic resonance (1H-NMR) techniques were applied to characterize chemical structures, and the filter paper disk method was used to test for antifungal effect of the products against Aspergillus niger, Paecilomyces variotii, and Paecilomyces lilacinus. Chemical structure charaterization showed that the products are target compounds. Antimicrobial experiment results indicated that N,N′-bis(trans-cinnamaldehyde)-1,2-diiminoethane displayed reliable antifungal effects against three fungi, and its antifungal effect is close to that of cinnamaldehyde. N,N′-bis(p-methoxy cinnamaldehyde)-1,2-diiminoethane and N,N′-bis(p-chlorocinnamaldehyde)-1,2-diiminoethane also showed antifungal effects at a low concentration. Of the two, N,N′-bis(p-methoxy cinnamaldehyde)-1,2-diiminoethane appeared to be more suitable as it was more effective at higher concentrations against Paecilomyces.  相似文献

Medicinal plants play a crucial role in maintaining human health. Kalanchoe pinnata has been used for treatment of different ailments like infections, rheumatism, and inflammation. Data showed that Kalancho pinnata methanolic extract (100 or 1000 μg/ml) significantly inhibited growth of shoots (hypocotyls) and roots (radicals) of rice compared to control after 3 or 7 days treatment. Further, the Kalancho pinnata methanolic extract (50–1000 μg/ml) exhibited antioxidant properties and scavenged free radicals in dose-dependent manner compared with a standard antioxidant (ascorbic acid). Kalancho pinnata methanolic extract also possesses antifungal property that inhibited approximately 76% and 51% growth of Aspergillus flavous and Aspergillus niger, respectively, using the extract at 200 μg/ml.  相似文献

A potential method to detoxify pesticides in aquatic system is using bioremediation. In this study, four microorganisms (Pseudomonas sp (EB11), Streptomyces sp. (EB12), Aspergillus niger (EB13) and Trichoderma viride (EB14) were isolated from cucumber leaves previously treated with cymoxanil using enrichment technique. These strains were evaluated for their potential to detoxify cymoxanil in aquatic system at the concentration level of 5×10?4M. The effect of pH and temperature on the growth ability of the tested strains was also investigated by measuring the intracellular protein and mycelia dry weight for bacterial and fungal strains, respectively. Moreover, the remaining toxicity of cymoxanil after 28 days of incubation with tested strains was evaluated to confirm the complete removal of any toxic materials (cymoxanil and its metabolites). The results showed that the optimum pH for the growth of cymoxanil degrading strains (bacteria and fungi) was 7. A temperature of 30°C appears to be the optimum for the growth of either fungal or bacterial strains. Pseudomonas sp. (EB11) was the most effective strain in cymoxanil degradation followed Streptomyces sp (EB12), Trichoderma viride (EB14) and Aspergillus niger (EB13), with half-lives of 4.33, 9.5, 17.3 and 24.7 days, respectively. The degradation of cymoxanil by bacterial strains was much faster than fungal one. There is no remaining toxicity of cymoxanil detected in aqueous media previously treated with Pseudomonas sp. (EB11) for 28 days. The results suggest that bioremediation by Pseudomonas sp. (EB11) are promising for the detoxification of cymoxanil in aqueous media.  相似文献

The goal of this work is to make ecotoxicologically-relevant substance bands visible on thin-layer chromatographic plates. Bacteria (Bacillus subtilis, Vibrio fischeri, Salmonella typhimurium), fungi (Aspergillus niger), algi (Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata) and pollen (Impatiens walleriana) were used as test organisms. With the aid of these organisms, it has been possible to identify bactericide, fungicide, algicide, phytotoxic and genotoxic bands.  相似文献

The present study aimed to elucidate the remediation potential of visibly dominant, naturally growing plants obtained from an early colonized fly ash dump near a coal-based thermal power station. The vegetation comprised of grasses like Saccharum spontaneum L., Cynodon dactylon (L.) Pers., herbs such as Tephrosia purpurea (L.) Pers., Sida rhombifolia L., Dysphania ambrosioides (L.) Mosyakin & Clemants, Chromolaena odorata (L.) King & H.E. Robins along with tree saplings Butea monosperma (Lam.) Taub. The growth of the vegetation improved the N and P content of the ash. Average metal concentrations (mg kg?1) in the ash samples and plants were in order Mn (345.1)?>?Zn (63.7)?>?Ni (29.3)?>?Cu (16.8)?>?Cr (9.9)?>?Pb (1.7)?>?Cd (0.41) and Cr (58.58)?>?Zn (52.74)?>?Mn (39.09)?>?Cu (10.71)?>?Ni (7.45)?>?Pb (5.52)?>?Cd (0.14), respectively. The plants showed fly ash dump phytostabilization potential and accumulated Cr (80.19–178.11 mg kg?1) above maximum allowable concentrations for plant tissues. Positive correlations were also obtained for metal concentration in plant roots versus fly ash. Saccharum spontaneum showed highest biomass and is the most efficient plant which can be used for the restoration of ash dumps.

The social spider mites (Acari: Tetranychidae) of Stigmaeopsis weave dense nests on the underside of host leaves. Four species occur on the leaves of bamboo in Japan: Stigmaeopsis longus, S. celarius, S. takahashii and S. saharai. We initially reconfirmed the occurrence of distinct variation in nest size among the species. Based on the hypothesis that this variation plays a role in protecting the spider mites from predators, we looked at the behavior of the natural enemies that occur on the host plants along with members of Stigmaeopsis. We found considerable variation in the ability of nests to protect the spider-mite eggs. The smallest nests protected the eggs against three predators, whereas the largest nests protected the eggs against only one predator species. So, decreases in nest size increased egg defense. Thus we concluded that nest-size variation reflects a strategy for reducing predation.Communicated by D. Gwynne  相似文献

Summary In aquarium experiments, the two marine gobiid fish species Pomatoschistus minutus and Gobius niger were allowed to build nests and to spawn in the presence and absence of a predator (cod, Gadus morhua); behind a glass wall the predator was kept where it could be clearly seen by the gobies and vice versa. P. minutus showed no difference in number of nests or number of spawnings in the different treatments; approximately half of the males built nests, and the females spawned in half of those nests. G. niger, on the other hand, responded differently to the simulated predation risk. No nests were built in sight of the predator, whereas in the absence of predators, half of the males built nests and received eggs. The G. niger individuals in this experiment were 2–3 years old. However, when comparing the reproduction of G. niger of different age in the presence of a predator, older individuals (4–5 years) spawned, whereas younger (2–3 years) did not. No difference in vulnerability towards predators was found between equal-sized P. minutus and G. niger. The optimal behavior during the breeding season must depend on prospects of survival, based both on maximal lifespan and vulnerability to predation.  相似文献

A field study was conducted in a petroleum-contaminated site in Kermanshah refinery (Iran) to find the petroleum-resistant plant species and the rhizospheral fungi for being used in bioremediation. Results showed that the amounts of petroleum pollution in non-vegetated areas is 6.8% and in vegetated areas is 2.2%. Plant samples were collected from petroleum-polluted areas and determined using morphological characters. It was found that eight plant species were growing on the contaminated sites: Polygonum aviculare, Amaranthus retroflexus, Noea mucronata, Alhaji cameleron, Crozophora heirosolymitrana, Poa sp., Convolvulus arvensis and Trifolium repense. The rhizospheral fungi of the plants were collected and determined using microscopic studies and taxonomical keys. The results determined the presence of 21 species in the rhizosphere of the plants growing in the polluted areas; three of these species were common in all of the plants and the others have species-specific distribution within the plants. The highest number of rhizospheral fungi (11 species) were determined for P. aviculare in non-polluted areas and nine species in polluted areas. It seems that the plant is the best candidate for using phytoremediation. However, the variation of fungi in petroleum-polluted areas was more than non-polluted zones. The culture of fungi in oil-contaminated media showed that, although all the studied fungi were resistant to low petroleum pollution (1% v/v), a few species, especially Fusarium species, showed higher resistance to petroleum pollution (10% v/v) and hence they may be suitable for mycoremediation in highly polluted areas.  相似文献

The antifungal activity of molecular identified Chilean saprobiontic fungi, Trichoderma viride, Schizophyllum commune and Trametes versicolor, on the fungal plant pathogens Botrytis cinerea and Fusarium oxysporum, and the saprotrophic mould Mucor miehei was investigated using two types of inhibition bioassay: (1) bi-compartmented Petri dishes and (2) two Erlenmeyer flasks connected by their upper parts. The chemical composition of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) released by saprobiontic fungi was also investigated using headspace solid-phase microextraction (SPME) and gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC-MS) analysis. Of the saprobiontic fungi evaluated, one isolate of S. commune showed the highest inhibitory activity against B. cinerea and M. miehei, 86.0±5.4 and 99.5±0.5% respectively. The volatile profiles of fungal isolates were shown to contain a different class of compounds. The major components in the headspace of mycelial cultures were 6-pentyl-α -pyrone (T. viride), ethanol and β -bisabolol (S. commune), and a sesquiterpene alcohol (Tr. versicolor). This is the first study reported on the release of VOCs by Chilean native fungi and their antifungal activity wrt. plant pathogenic fungi.  相似文献

A pot experiment was conducted to evaluate the potential effects of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) on growth, nutrient uptake, and inoculation effectiveness on Phragmites japonica. Spores of AMF strains (Gigaspora margarita Becker &; Hall) were collected from the commercial product ‘Serakinkon’. Four treatments, namely, natural soil (NS), natural soil inoculated by AM fungi, sterilised soil (SS) inoculated by AM fungi, and SS without AM fungi inoculation were selected to determine the effects of applied and indigenous AMF on P. japonica. The average colonisation level of P. japonica was 24–33%, whereas no colonisation was found in the SS. AMF colonisation increased the chlorophyll content (r?=?0.84, p?r?=?0.89, p?相似文献

Acquisition of mycotic keratitis has been linked to agricultural activities. Although fungi were identified in injured eyes, data derived directly from farmlands are limited. Following five cases of fungal corneal ulcers in onion harvesters in the monsoon area of Taiwan, the present study further determined fungi genera and their concentrations in onion crops and surface soils of onion farmlands. In total, 52, 100 and 100 samples of soils, onion leaves and bulb scales, respectively, were collected from three monsoon and one non-monsoon farmlands. Fungal colonies were counted and microscopically examined after incubation at 25°C for 4–7 days on malt extract agar with 40?g?mL?1 chloramphenicol. Results showed the peak fungi levels were mostly observed at harvest time. Among keratitis-related fungi, Aspergillus predominated in soils as well as in onion bulb scales, while Alternaria in onion leaves. Cladosporium was also prevalent in soils, onion leaves and scales. Other keratitis-related fungi included Acremonium, Curvalaria, Fusarium, Mycelia, Penicillium, Rhizoctonia and Rhizopus. The present study provides an exposure link between onion harvesters and presence of keratitis-related fungi from onion crops and soils, which may account for mycotic ocular infection via hand-to-eye contact and airborne transmission during the monsoon season.  相似文献

In this research, we evaluated the toxic effect of metal ions on mycelial growth and phosphate-solubilising activity of soil-borne micromycetes isolated from the Phragmites australis rhizosphere using Pikovskaya-agar plates supplemented with four metal concentrations. The diameter growth rate (DGR) decreased as the metal concentration rise for all tested fungi. Trichoderma atroviride had the fastest growth rate (1.48?cm2?day?1) and was the least susceptible to Al3+, Cd2+, Cr3+, Cu2+ and Pb2+ with a median effective concentration (MEC50) of 12.19, 0.48, 4.51, 11.44 and 50.05?mM, respectively. Aspergillus japonicus was the most tolerant to Co2+, Ni2+ and Zn2+, with MEC50 values of 3.36, 1.095 and 2.34?mM, respectively. Penicillium italicum was the most tolerant to Cr6+ (MEC50?=?0.677?mM). The ability to solubilise phosphate remained, despite the decrease in the DGR, and P. italicum and Penicillium dipodomyicola had the highest Phosphate Solubilisation Indexes (PSIs) at 1.97 and 2.12, respectively. In particular, P. italicum recorded the highest PSI of all the studied isolates at 0.62?mM Cr3+ (PSI?=?4.74). A. japonicus and T. atroviride were the most tolerant isolates to all tested metals, which suggests that these isolates are promising candidates for further study with regard to mycoremediation and biofertilisation of metal-polluted soils.  相似文献

The pattern of genetic variability of two species of Mediterranean gobiids was compared, with reference to their different life history traits (Aphia minuta paedomorphic and pelagic; Gobius niger metamorphosed and benthic). The aim was to evaluate how different life histories can affect the genetic structure in these marine teleosts. The study was carried out on populations of both species sampled in the western Mediterranean and in the Adriatic Sea. Seven restriction endonucleases were used for the RFLP analysis of a mitochondrial DNA segment comprising the NADH dehydrogenase subunits 3, 4L and 4. The results highlighted two different patterns of genetic variation, a weak genetic structure in A. minuta and population subdivision in G. niger. These observations may be explained not only in terms of the different dispersal capabilities of these species, but also considering that A. minuta is an abbreviate iteroparous spawner while G. niger is a protracted iteroparous spawner. Because abbreviate iteroparity is a reproductive strategy selected in stable environments with high resource availability, Pliocene and Pleistocene climate oscillations may have represented factors that negatively influenced the reproductive success of A. minuta, producing demographic fluctuations and bottlenecks, as suggested by the mismatch distribution analysis. The weak genetic structure of A. minuta populations seems to be therefore due to a more recent re-colonization of the Mediterranean basin after a severe population decline, rather than to the high vagility of this pelagic goby.  相似文献

The use of microorganisms as biological control agents (BCAs) has become an effective alternative to chemical means of controlling plant pathogens. The antagonistic and inhibitory activity of 71 Bacillus spp. strains, which were isolated from different Mexican sites, were tested against several phytopathogen fungi, Fusarium oxysporum, Fusarium equiseti, Fusarium avenaceum, Bipolaris spp. and Alternaria spp. From the antagonism study, the strain ELI149 showed a marked inhibition of growth against all tested fungi; therefore crude metabolites from this strain were extracted using ethyl acetate and amberlite resin and probed against the same fungi as well as strains of Mucor sp., Penicillium spp. and Paecilomyces spp. The results indicated that amberlite was more suitable for extraction of secondary metabolites with antifungal activity. Finally, observation of cell damage in the tested pathogenic fungi showed marked morphological changes on reproductive structures in all tested fungi indicating that antibiosis was the mechanism of the antagonistic effect. These results suggest that metabolites from the Bacillus strains have a wide spectrum of antibiotic activities, which can be used as biocontrol agents for controlling fungal plant diseases of agricultural importance.  相似文献

Summary The thick-legged first instar soldiers of the gall-forming aphid Pemphigus spyrothecae Pass. are able to protect the aphids in the gall from being eaten by a range of insect predators. In artificial galls, the soldier aphids were able to kill first instar ladybirds Adalia bipunctata (L.) (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae), early third instar hoverfly larvae Eupeodes (Metasyrphus) corollae (Fab.) (Diptera: Syrphidae), and first-third instar Anthocoris nemoralis (Fab.) (Hemiptera: Cimicidae). Almost all the aphids that attacked the predators were themselves killed. The soldiers were also able to kill predators introduced into natural galls. Experiments were devised in which individuals of Anthocoris minki, which is the most important insect predator of the gall generations of Pemphigus at the study site, were free to enter and leave the gall: the soldiers were effective both in preventing the predator's access to the gall and in killing those predators that did manage to get in. In galls with experimentally manipulated numbers of soldiers and non-soldiers, it was clearly shown that it is the soldiers alone that kill the predators (Anthocoris minki and 1st instar Adalia bipunctata) (see Table 3). Even though many soldiers may die during these encounters, the selective advantage of killing the predators is high, since observations show that individual A. minki can pass through more than one instar inside a gall and kill all the aphids therein. The aphids were not observed to attack conspecific aphids from other galls or the cohabiting aphid Chaitophorus leucomelas Koch. The primary role of the soldier caste is therefore the defence of the aphid colony against predators.  相似文献

The reductive adsorption of hexavalent chromium (Cr6+) using six indigenous microorganisms isolated from contaminated soil and water samples was investigated. Quantification of Cr6+ reduction was determined using the 1,5-diphenylcarbazide method followed measuring the absorbance at OD540. Bacterial isolates identified as Klebsiella pneumoniae, Bacillus firmus and Mycobacterium sp. were capable of absorbing Cr6+ efficiently into their biomass, whereas the fungal isolates, Aspergillus flavus, Aspergillus sp. and A. niger were capable of transforming Cr6+ to Cr3+ relative to cell-wall-binding properties. Infrared spectral analysis of functional groups showed that ?OH, ?NH2 and C?O with conjugated ?NH were the binding groups responsible for adsorption of Cr6+ within the biomass of isolates. The data highlight the promising biotechnological application of these isolates in removing carcinogenic and mutagenic Cr6+ from contaminated ecosystems.  相似文献

Summary. The parasitic wasp Microplitis croceipes (Cresson) (Hymenoptera: Braconidae) learns to associate odors with food resources and subsequently exhibits a characteristic food-seeking behavior when encountering the learned odor. Wasps so conditioned, learned and subsequently demonstrated an ability to distinguish among aflatoxigenic and non-aflatoxigenic Aspergillus flavus and A. parasiticus strains. The effects of fungal species, strain, age (5, 10-12, 20, and 30 d) and growth media (potato dextrose agar, peanut agar and corn agar) on the learning and recognition responses of the conditioned wasps were examined. The level of differentiation between fungal strains by conditioned wasps was lowest when working with 5-d-old fungal cultures but increased with age and generally peaked with 20-d-old fungi. Wasps responded generally stronger to the fungal strain conditioned to independent of growth media. This ability of parasitic wasps to learn and distinguish fungal odors can open new avenues in insect learning.  相似文献

Summary. An aphidiid wasp, Paralipsis eikoae, was associated with both Lasius niger and L. sakagamii attending the wormwood root aphid Sappaphis piri. An L. sakagamii worker was observed carrying a winged female P. eikoae to its nest with its mandible, but it did not kill the wasp. Once accepted by the ants, the wasp often mounted and rubbed against the worker ants and sometimes teased them to regurgitate food to itself. No workers in the colony attacked the wasp. Conspecific foreign workers, however, viciously attacked the wasp when encountered. Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry analyses showed that the accepted wasp had complex cuticular hydrocarbons that were very similar to those of its host ants, whereas the winged wasps collected outside the ant nest showed only a series of n-alkanes. Additionally, the accepted wasp had a hydrocarbon profile closer to that of its host ants than to the conspecific foreign ants. We believe the wasp mimics ant cuticular hydrocarbons to integrate into the ant nest, acquiring the hydrocarbons by mounting and rubbing against the ants. In contrast, the cuticular hydrocarbons of the emerged wasp contained larval and pupal hydrocarbons of L. sakagamii that were also similar to those of L. niger. Both ant species rejected adult workers of the other species but accepted their larvae and pupae. We suggest that the emerged P. eikoae mimics the cuticular hydrocarbons of these Lasius larvae and pupae, which allows P. eikoae to be accepted by both L. sakagamii and L. niger. The predation impact of the two chaetognaths Eukrohnia hamata and Sagitta gazellae on mesozooplankton standing stock were investigated in three depth layers during two 24 h stations occupied in the vicinity of Marion Island in late austral summer (April/May) 1986. The zooplankton community at both stations was dominated by small copepods (Oithona spp., Microcalanus spp.), which accounted for >95% of total zooplankton abundance. Chaetognaths comprised <2% of total zooplankton abundance. E. hamata constituted >95% of the total chaetognath stock. The general trend in both species was decreasing abundance with increasing depth, which appeared to be correlated to the distribution of copepods (r 2 = 0.45; P <0.05). Gut-content analysis showed that copepods (mainly Oithona spp., Calanus spp. and Rhincalanus gigas) and ostracods were the main prey of both species, accounting for 87 and 61% of the total number of prey in E. hamata and S.␣gazellae stomachs, respectively. In the guts of S.␣gazellae, pteropods (Limacina spp.) and chaetognaths were also well represented. The mean number of prey items (NPC) for E. hamata ranged from 0.02 to 0.06 prey individual−1 which corresponds to an individual feeding rate (Fr) of between 0.05 and 0.12 prey d−1. For S.␣gazellae, the NPC values were higher, varying between 0.04␣and 0.20 prey individual−1, or between 0.15 and 0.76 prey d−1. The daily predation impact of the two chaetognaths was estimated at between 0.3 and 1.2% of the copepod standing stock or between 7 and 16% of the daily copepod production. Predation by S. gazellae on chaetognaths accounted for up to 1.6% of the chaetognath standing stock per day. Received: 26 November 1996 / Accepted: 31 October 1997  相似文献

Experimental transplantation investigations, using laboratory raised axenic seedlings of Enhalus acoroides and natural populations of Syringodium isoetifolium, Thalassia hemprichii and Halodule pinifolia in the Gulf of Mannar Marine Biosphere Reserve, found that the denuded seagrass ecosystem of this Gulf can effectively be restored with plug and turfs methods of seagrass transplantation. Axenically developed E. acoroides, transplanted by the staples method, established by adapting to the prevailing environmental conditions. 0% seedlings “washed ashore” when the staples method was adopted using ‘L’ shaped bamboo sticks for transplanting E. acoroides and S. isoetifolium seedlings. This suggests that the seagrass transplantation using “L” shaped bamboo sticks, as staples will be technically feasible and eco-friendly for future seagrass transplantation programmes. Substratum type, duration of low tide exposure and environmental parameters like surface water temperature and turbidity are key parameters determining the success of the transplantation attempts.  相似文献
