Formulation and Validation of an Empirical Moisture Damage Index

An empirical moisture damage index was developed in order to reduce the subjectivity of the estimation of moisture damage in domestic residences, in relation to occupant health. The database was generated using information gathered from a sample of 164 houses that were examined by civil engineers, and questionnaire data collected from the occupants. The index was formulated to associate with the occupant reported respiratory symptoms by calculating weighted estimates of selected moisture damage attributes using 80% of the sample. The remaining 20% of the sample was used to verify the final index. The index associated strongly with the health symptoms of interest. This index is a tool that may be used as an indicator of moisture damage induced exposure in domestic residences.

4种中草药的超临界CO2萃取物对霉菌的抑制效果

利用气相扩散法、固相扩散法、平板法研究了荷叶、艾叶、佩兰、细辛4种中草药的超临界CO2萃取物对霉菌的抑制作用和最低抑制浓度(MIC).结果表明,4种中草药的超临界CO2萃取物对单一或混合霉菌均有较强的抑制作用,荷叶和细辛的MIC<1.56g/L,佩兰的MIC<0.63g/L,艾叶的MIC<0.2g/L.表3参11     

Volatile metabolites from indoor molds grown on media containing wood constituents

Since volatile mold metabolites are used for the detection of mold growth in buildings, it was interesting to determine whether different indoor mold species show different affinity for the major components of wood, a common building material. Growth and volatile metabolites were studied when Aspergillus versicolor, Penicillium chrysogenum, and P. palitans were grown on laboratory substrates containing the major wood constituents cellulose, xylan and lignin. Microbial volatile organic compounds (MVOCs) were characterized by thermal desorption/gas chromatography/mass spectroscopy. Growth and volatile metabolites varied considerably and there appeared to be complementary substrate specificities for P. chrysogenum, and P. palitans grown on cellulose and xylan. The failure of A. versicolor to produce characteristic MVOCs when grown on media containing wood constituents suggests that systems using volatile metabolites to detect microbial growth in buildings may be fundamentally unreliable for the detection of this species.

LiCl溶液对4种空调典型霉菌、细菌的抑制研究

为防止空调系统内霉菌、细菌的过度孳生,本文以空调系统内常见的黑曲霉（A. niger）、大肠埃希氏菌（E. coli）、金黄色葡萄球菌（S. aureus）、枯草芽孢杆菌（B. subtilis）为典型霉菌、细菌,基于纸片扩散法药敏试验,研究了空调除湿常用工质LiCl溶液对上述典型菌种的抑制作用及浓度影响规律.结果表明：在常见除湿浓度范围（35%~40%）内,LiCl溶液对上述4种典型菌种均有抑制作用;特别是对A. niger抑制效果最强,在15%的低浓度下即可产生明显抑制;其次为E. coli,而对S. aureus和B. subtilis的抑制相对较弱.此外,所得抑制效果随LiCl溶液浓度的提高而明显增强,特别是对A. niger和E. coli,溶液浓度与抑菌圈直径呈显著的正相关性.     

地球化学动力学反应器原理和速率方程测定

Volatile sesquiterpenes from Stachybotrys chartarum: Indicators for trichothecene producing mold species?

Trichodiene, a volatile sesquiterpene which is structurally related to trichothecene mycotoxins, has been identified in the headspace of growing Stachybotrys chartarum by GC/MS. It is possible that volatile sesquiterpene patterns can be used to characterize S. chartarum and related mold isolates as trichothecene producers, thus providing clear criteria for decisions concerning the occupancy and renovation of contaminated buildings.
