The feasibility of using two types of biochars to reduce steroid hormone pollution from poultry and swine manure application on agricultural land was evaluated. The sorption affinity and desorption resistance of softwood and hardwood biochars were also determined for two estrogen hormones,17β-estradiol(E2) and its primary metabolite estrone(E1).The softwood and hardwood biochars demonstrated high retention capacity for both estrogens. The effective distribution coefficient(K_d~(eff)) of soil-softwood-derived biochar(SBS_(450)) was significantly higher than soil-hardwood-derived biochar(SBH750),indicating the stronger sorption affinity of SBS450 for estrogens. To validate the laboratory results,a field lysimeter experiment was conducted to study the fate and transport of E2 and E1 in soil and leachate in the presence of 1% softwood-biochar(BS450) in topsoil and to compare it with soil without any amendments. The spatio-temporal distribution of both estrogens was monitored at four depths over a 46-day period. The lysimeters,in which the surface layer of soil was amended with biochar, retained significantly higher concentrations of both estrogen hormones.Although they leached through the soil and were detected in leachates, collected at 1.0 m depth, the concentrations were significantly lower in the leachate collected from biochar-amended lysimeters. The result confirmed the efficacy of biochar amendment as a remediation technique to alleviate the manure-borne hormonal pollution of groundwater. 相似文献
Metal–organic frameworks are porous polymeric materials formed by linking metal ions with organic bridging ligands. Metal–organic frameworks are used as sensors, catalysts for organic transformations, biomass conversion, photovoltaics, electrochemical applications, gas storage and separation, and photocatalysis. Nonetheless, many actual metal–organic frameworks present limitations such as toxicity of preparation reagents and components, which make frameworks unusable for food and pharmaceutical applications. Here, we review the structure, synthesis and properties of cyclodextrin-based metal–organic frameworks that could be used in bioapplications. Synthetic methods include vapor diffusion, microwave-assisted, hydro/solvothermal, and ultrasound techniques. The vapor diffusion method can produce cyclodextrin-based metal–organic framework crystals with particle sizes ranging from 200 nm to 400 μm. Applications comprise food packaging, drug delivery, sensors, adsorbents, gas separation, and membranes. Cyclodextrin-based metal–organic frameworks showed loading efficacy of the bioactive compounds ranging from 3.29 to 97.80%.
Static and dynamic adsorption studies of Co (II) ions have been undertaken at fixed pH and ionic strength taking binary biopolymeric beads of cross-linked calcium alginate and carboxy methylcellulose as biosorbents. The adsorption data were applied to Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm equations and various static parameters were calculated. The dynamic nature of adsorption process was quantified in terms of several kinetic constants such as rate constants for adsorption (K) and Lagergreen rate constant (Kad). The influence of various experimental parameters such as solid-to-liquid ratio, pH, and temperature, the presence of salts and chemical composition of biopolymeric beads were investigated on the adsorption of cobalt ions. 相似文献
Objectives: The aim of this study was to estimate the main driving-impairing medications used by drivers in Jordan, the reported frequency of medication side effects, the frequency of motor vehicle crashes (MVCs) while using driving-impairing medicines, as well as factors associated with MVCs.
Methods: A cross-sectional study involving 1,049 individuals (age 18–75 years) who are actively driving vehicles and taking at least one medication known to affect driving (anxiolytics, antidepressants, hypnotics, antiepileptics, opioids, sedating antihistamines, hypoglycemic agents, antihypertensives, central nervous system [CNS] stimulants, and herbals with CNS-related effects) was conducted in Amman, Jordan, over a period of 8 months (September 2013–May 2014) using a structured validated questionnaire.
Results: Sixty-three percent of participants noticed a link between a medicine taken and feeling sleepy and 57% stated that they experience at least one adverse effect other than sleepiness from their medication. About 22% of the participants reported having a MVC while on medication. Multiple logistic regression analysis showed that among the participants who reported having a crash while taking a driving-impairing medication, the odds ratios were significantly higher for the use of inhalant substance (odds ratio [OR] = 2.787, P = .014), having chronic conditions (OR = 1.869, P = .001), and use of antiepileptic medications (OR = 2.348, P = .008) and significantly lower for the use of antihypertensives (OR = 0.533, P = .008).
Conclusion: The study results show high prevalence of adverse effects of medications with potential for driving impairment, including involvement in MVCs. Our findings highlight the types of patient-related and medication-related factors associated with MVCs in Jordan, such as inhalant use, presence of chronic conditions, and use of antiepileptics. 相似文献
In this paper cellulose nanocrystals were prepared by treating microcrystalline cellulose with 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium
hydrogen sulphate ionic liquid. Cellulose nanocrystals, after separation from ionic liquid, were characterized by X-ray diffraction
(XRD), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), Field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) Transmission Electron Microscope
(TEM) and Thermogravimetric analysis. XRD results showed no changes in type of cellulose after the treatment with ionic liquid,
however, high crystallinity index was observed in the ionic liquid treated sample. Cellulose nanocrystals, having length around
50–300 nm and diameter around 14–22 nm were observed in the ionic liquid treated sample under FESEM and TEM, and similar patterns
of peaks as that of microcrystalline cellulose were observed for cellulose nanocrystals in the FTIR spectra. The thermal stability
of the cellulose nanocrystals was measured low as compare to microcrystalline cellulose. 相似文献
