Using a scenario‐based experiment, this study examined how employee attitude and employee communication styles affected managers' reactions to employees' objections to a company policy. In the experiment, employee attitude (cynical versus trusting) and employee communication styles (aggressive versus diplomatic) were manipulated, and managers' reactions to voicing discontent were assessed through a questionnaire. Based on a sample of 185 middle managers working in various organizations in South Korea, the results showed that managers were more likely to engage in social undermining and were less likely to provide social support when cynical (rather than trusting) employees objected to a company policy. Also, attributed motives (i.e., personal attack and health concern) fully mediated the relationship between employee attitude and social support and social undermining. In addition, managers more likely attributed the objection to moral concerns when trusting (rather than cynical) employees communicated in an aggressive manner. Mesoporous MCM-48 silica was synthesized using a cationic-neutral surfactant mixture as the structure-directing template and rice husk ash (RHA) as the silica source. The MCM-48 samples were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), N2 physisorption and SEM. X-ray diffraction pattern of the resulting MCM-48 revealed typical pattern of cubic Ia3d mesophase. BET results showed the MCM-48 to have a surface area of 1024 m2/g and FT-IR revealed a silanol functional group at about 3460 cm−1. Breakthrough experiments in the presence of MCM-48 were also carried out to test the material's CO2 adsorption capacity. The breakthrough time for CO2 was found to decrease as the temperature increased from 298 K to 348 K. The steep slopes observed shows the CO2 adsorption occurred very quickly, with only a minimal mass transfer effect and very fast kinetics. In addition, amine grafted MCM-48, APTS-MCM-48 (RHA), was prepared with the 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane (APTS) to investigate the effect of amine functional group in CO2 separation. An order of magnitude higher CO2 adsorption capacity was obtained in the presence of APTS-MCM-48 (RHA) compared to that with MCM-48 (RHA). Ambient air PCB concentrations in the Lake Calumet region in Southeast Chicago have been found to be significantly higher than in nearby non-urban areas. This area is highly industrialized and also contains municipal sludge drying facilities and landfills. In an effort to quantify the importance of the sludge drying facilities to the elevated concentrations, upwind/downwind air samples from the Calumet East sludge drying bed were obtained between April and October 2002. For these samples, the downwind minus upwind (downwind-upwind) concentration varied from 0.33 to 1.27ngm(-3) for non-northeast (NE) direction winds suggesting sludge drying is a source of PCBs to the atmosphere. However, the upwind concentrations were higher than the downwind for winds from the NE of the sampling site suggesting more significant source(s), possibly Lake Calumet or the so called "Cluster site" NE of the sludge drying beds. Flux chamber experiments carried out during the sampling period measured average PCB fluxes of 210ngm(-2)h(-1) (range 43-910ngm(-2)h(-1)) which resulted in an overall flux of 0.005kgday (d)(-1) ( approximately 2kgyr(-1)). A developed regression equation between moisture content and sludge concentration estimated higher PCB losses of 0.26kgd(-1) ( approximately 95kgyr(-1)). Although these two approaches yielded different values, they both indicate that the emission from the Calumet East sludge drying beds were of minimal importance when compared to the total estimated amount of 2-70kgd(-1) (700-2100kgyr(-1)) of PCBs entering the Chicago atmosphere. 相似文献

Dechlorination and destruction characteristics of polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and polychlorinated dibenzofurans (PCDDs/PCDFs) in fly ashes from commercial-scale municipal solid waste incinerators by low temperature thermal treatment using a laboratory-scale heating system were investigated. Experiments were carried out in reducing atmosphere at temperatures of 300 degrees C, 450 degrees C and 600 degrees C respectively, for the treatment time of 1h and 3h. Concentrations of PCDDs/PCDFs in raw fly ashes ranged from 35.5 to 107.3 microg kg(-1) (1.5-3.4 microg TEQ kg(-1)) and treated fly ashes ranged from 0.34 to 45.3 microg kg(-1) (0.012-1.63 microg TEQ kg(-1)). Concentrations of PCDDs/PCDFs in fly ashes treated at the different temperatures and times were observed to decrease with increase of treatment temperature and time by dechlorination or destruction. The distribution of octa- and hepta-chlorinated congeners were decreased and tetra-, penta- and hexa-chlorinated congeners were increased at 300 degrees C and 450 degrees C, but the distribution of octa- and hepta-chlorinated congeners were increased and tetra-, penta- and hexa-chlorinated congeners were again decreased at 600 degrees C. Total destruction efficiencies of PCDDs/PCDFs in fly ashes showed above 95% at the treatment temperature of 450 degrees C for 3h. However, removal efficiency of each congener in fly ashes varied, especially, 2,3,7,8-TeCDD and 1,2,3,7,8-PeCDD in fly ash A increased. And the dechlorination and destruction characteristics of PCDDs/PCDFs in fly ash A and B was different due to difference in contents of Ca-compounds and metal oxides such as CuO and PbO in fly ashes. 相似文献

Site-specific estimates of the values of spatial configuration and forest composition are presented. Amenity values of forest
patches are found to vary the most by urban and sprawling development patterns of specific areas and forest types. For example,
smaller patches of deciduous forest are more highly valued in the urban and sprawling areas of Greensboro, North Carolina,
whereas larger patches of deciduous forest are more highly valued in the urban and sprawling areas of Greenville, South Carolina.
Within the Greenville and Greensboro areas, visible landscape complexity is highly valued for deciduous and evergreen forest
patches, whereas lower visible landscape complexity, i.e., smoothly trimmed forest patch boundaries, is highly valued for

The aim of this study was to isolate and characterize Bacillus cereus bacteriophages of various origins. Twenty-seven bacteriophages against B. cereus were isolated from various Korean traditional fermented foods and soils. Plaque size, transmission electron microscopy, virulence profile, and in vitro lytic activity of bacteriophage isolates were examined. Transmission electron microscopy confirmed B. cereus bacteriophages belonging to the family Siphoviridae. Among B. cereus bacteriophages with broad host range, 18 isolates (66.7%) did not harbor any B. cereus virulence factors. Among them, bacteriophage strain CAU150036, CAU150038, CAU150058, CAU150064, CAU150065, and CAU150066 effectively inhibited B. cereus in vitro within 1 h. Therefore, they are considered potential candidates for controlling the contamination of B. cereus in food or other applications. 相似文献

Noroviruses are major causative pathogen of nonbacterial acute gastroenteritis worldwide. Of the seven genogroups of noroviruses suggested recently, genogroup II genotype 4 (GII.4) had been the most common genotype identified in hospitalized patients in the last few decades. However, since the latter half of 2014, new variants of GII.17 have been reported as the main causes of outbreaks over GII.4 in East Asia and have also occurred in America and Europe. In this study, we monitored norovirus GII in coastal streams at South Gyeongsang province and South Jeolla province of South Korea from March 2015 to May 2016. Norovirus GII.17 capsid sequences were predominantly detected until September 2015 in water samples. However, we found that the number of positive cases of the norovirus GII.4 Sydney 2012 capsid sequence has been increasing since December 2015, overtaking that of GII.17 in 2016. The RdRp genotype of this predominant GII.4 variant in 2016 was identified as GII.P16. The emergence and predominance of the GII.4 pandemic capsid sequence harboring a different RdRp genotype suggested the potential for a future pandemic. 相似文献

Escherichia coli is known to respond to certain toxic chemicals through an increased expression of various stress genes. In this study, therefore, the expression of recA, katG, fabA and grpE genes was used as a representative for DNA, oxidative, membrane and protein damage, respectively, after E. coli was exposed to different polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), i.e., phenanthrene, naphthalene and benzo[a]pyrene. To accomplish this, the expression levels of these four genes were quantified using a real-time RT-PCR analysis when E. coli cultures were under stressful conditions, such as those caused by an exposure to mitomycin C, hydrogen peroxide and phenol. It was found that the primary toxic effect of each chemical is clearly seen when the expression levels of the different genes are compared. Tests with the PAHs showed naphthalene and benzo[a]pyrene to be genotoxic, while phenanthrene had no clear effect on the expression of any of these genes. Based on these results, the effects due to these toxic chemicals and the extent of each stress can be evaluated with ease using the expression levels of different stress responsive genes. 相似文献

Polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins, polychlorinated dibenzofurans, and dioxin-like polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) in char and slag produced from automobile shredder residue by pyrolysis and melting process were analyzed to measure changes in the characteristics and distribution of their congeners caused by thermal treatment. In particular, a large quantity of dioxin-like PCBs occurred in low-chlorinated congeners. The concentration of PCDDs/PCDFs in char was 0.542 microg/kg, with mostly PCDFs dominant and its toxicity equivalent concentration (TEQ) was about 70ngTEQ/kg. The concentration and toxicity equivalent concentration of dioxin-like PCBs in char were 0.869 microg/kg and 1.60ngTEQ/kg, respectively. Melted char slag was produced using various cooling methods: water quenching, air cooling, and slow cooling. The concentrations of PCDDs/PCDFs in slag produced by the methods were 1.51, 1.38, and 2.43ngTEQ/kg, respectively; those of dioxin-like PCBs were close to 0.01ngTEQ/kg. The congener distributions varied only slightly among the cooling methods. Applying melting procedure to char reduced PCDD/PCDF concentration by 95.3%, and the corresponding TEQ concentration was reduced by 97.9%. We thus conclude that melting process is an efficient way to reduce the concentrations of PCDDs/PCDFs in solids produced by pyrolysis. 相似文献
