Changes in speciation and mobility of As by indigenous bacteria in As-contaminated sediments (339 mg/kg) from an abandoned
Au–Ag mine area in Korea were investigated after biostimulation with a variety of carbon sources, including acetate, lactate
and glucose in batch experiments. Sequential extraction analysis designed to determine the form of As occurrence revealed
that 40 and 47% of As were present in the sediment as Fe-associated and residual fractions, respectively. After 22-day incubation
with acetate and lactate, the presence of indigenous bacteria increased the amount of total dissolved As from both Fe-associated
and residual fractions in the sediment. More than 99% of dissolved As existed as As(V) in biotic slurries in contrast to sterile
controls (less than 50% of total dissolved As), which indicated that indigenous bacteria transformed some dissolved As(III)
to As(V). In real environments, depending on the pH, microbially-produced aqueous As(V) may be either immobilized through
adsorption or reduced to As(III) after migration to the anoxic subsurface. 相似文献

Polycaprolactone/tapioca starch/octadecylamine modified clay (OMMT) nanocomposites were successfully prepared by melt blending.
X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) of the products showed that they are nanocomposites of a mixture
intercalated and exfoliated types. In addition, the TEM also revealed that the OMMT layers are homogeneously distributed in
the polymer matrix. The presence of 1 php of OMMT improved the compatibility of the polymers in the blends which consequently

This study assessed bacterial concentrations in indoor air at 25 underground railway stations in Seoul, Korea, and investigated various related factors including the presence of platform screen doors (PSD), depth of the station, year of construction, temperature, relative humidity, and number of passengers. A total of 72 aerosol samples were collected from all the stations. Concentrations of total airborne bacteria (TAB) ranged from not detected (ND) to 4997 CFU m?3, with an overall geometric mean (GM) of 191 CFU m?3. Airborne bacteria were detected at 23 stations (92%) and Gram-negative bacteria (GNB) were detected at two stations (8%). TAB concentrations of four stations (16%) exceeded 800 CFU m?3, the Korea indoor bio-aerosol guideline. The results of the study showed that TAB concentrations at the stations without PSD showed higher TAB concentrations than those with PSD, though not at statistically significant levels. TAB concentrations of deeper stations revealed significantly higher levels than those of shallower stations. Based on this study, it is recommended that mitigation measures be applied to improve the indoor air quality (IAQ) of underground railway stations in Seoul, with focused attention on deeper stations. 相似文献

The aim of this research is to find the optimum smoke extraction rate through the ventilation shaft in case of a fire in a long road tunnel. Furthermore, it is also investigated whether the current emergency ventilation design practice using a vertical shaft can limit the smoke propagation from a fully loaded gasoline tank lorry fire. For this research, scaled model experiments were carried out using a 20 m- long model tunnel with a vertical shaft. The characteristics of bubble properties and the chaotic flow behavior of gas were investigated in an annular fluidized bed
(0.102 m in inner diameter and 2 m in height) because the behavior of gas flow in such a reactor is one of the important factors
governing reactor operation, reactor performance, and the reaction itself. Pressure fluctuations as a state variable for the
analysis of gas flow behavior were measured and analyzed. Bubble properties were determined by adopting the cross-correlation
function of pressure fluctuations. The resultant chaotic flow behavior of gas was interpreted by means of chaotic parameters
such as the Kolmogorov entropy. It was found that the Kolmogorov entropy could be utilized effectively to explain the nonlinear
dynamic behavior of gas-solid flow in the annular fluidized bed. The pierced length and rising velocity of bubbles increased
with increasing gas velocity, bed temperature, and particle size of the bed material. The bubble frequency increased with
increasing gas velocity and bed temperature, while it decreased with increasing particle size of the bed material. Correlations

Catalytic reduction of sulfur dioxide with carbon monoxide over tin dioxide for direct sulfur recovery process 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
SO(2) reduction by CO over SnO(2) catalyst was studied in this work. The parameters were the reaction temperature, space velocity (GHSV) and [CO]/[SO(2)] molar ratio. The optimal temperature, GHSV and [CO]/[SO(2)] molar ratio were 550 degrees C, 8000 h(-1) and 2.0, respectively. Under these conditions, the SO(2) conversion and sulfur selectivity were about 78% and 68%, respectively. The following reaction pathway involving two mechanisms was proposed in SO(2) reduction by CO over SnO(2) catalyst: in the first step involving Redox mechanism, the elemental sulfur was produced by the mobility of the lattice oxygen between SO(2) and SnO(2) surface. In the second step, COS was formed by the side reaction between elemental sulfur and CO or metal sulfide and CO. In the third step involving COS intermediate mechanism, the abundant elemental sulfur was produced by the SO(2) reduction by COS which was produced in the second step and was more effective reducing agent than CO. 相似文献

Copper is an essential micronutrient for plants. Present at a high concentration in soil, copper is also regarded as a major toxicant to plant cells due to its potential inhibitory effects against many physiological and biochemical processes. The interference of germination-related proteins by heavy metals has not been well documented at the proteomic level. In the current study, physiological, biochemical and proteomic changes of germinating rice seeds were investigated under copper stress. Germination rate, shoot elongation, plant biomass, and water content were decreased, whereas accumulation of copper and TBARS content in seeds were increased significantly with increasing copper concentrations from 0.2mM to 1.5mM followed by germination. The SDS-PAGE showed the preliminary changes in the polypeptides patterns under copper stress. Protein profiles analyzed by two-dimensional electrophoresis (2-DE) revealed that 25 protein spots were differentially expressed in copper-treated samples. Among them, 18 protein spots were up-regulated and 7 protein spots were down-regulated. These differentially displayed proteins were identified by MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry. The up-regulation of some antioxidant and stress-related proteins such as glyoxalase I, peroxiredoxin, aldose reductase, and some regulatory proteins such as DnaK-type molecular chaperone, UlpI protease, and receptor-like kinase clearly indicated that excess copper generates oxidative stress that might be disruptive to other important metabolic processes. Moreover, down-regulation of key metabolic enzymes like alpha-amylase or enolase revealed that the inhibition of seed germinations after exposure to excess copper not only affects starvation in water uptake by seeds but also results in failure in the reserve mobilization processes. These results indicate a good correlation between the physiological and biochemical changes in germinating rice seeds exposed to excess copper. 相似文献

The coast of the Korean peninsula experiences a range of human impacts, including pollution, shipping, reclamation, and aquaculture, that have motivated numerous local studies of macrobenthic organisms. In this paper, 1,492 subtidal stations were compiled from 23 studies (areas) to evaluate environmental quality on a broader scale. A common index in biomonitoring, Shannon–Wiener evenness proportion (SEP), could not incorporate azoic or single-species samples. This shortcoming was overcome by developing an inverse function of SEP (ISEP), which was positively correlated with independent measures of water quality available for nine sites and was not biased by the size of the sampling unit. Additionally, at Shihwa Dike, where samples were collected before and after reinstating a tidal connection with the ocean, ISEP values improved over time, as expected. Thus, it is now possible to assign Korean subtidal sites to seven ISEP “grades” and to use their values and trends to guide coastal management. 相似文献
