During 1998 regional surveys were conducted to evaluate natural radiation exposure of people in the vicinity of the six Spanish nuclear power stations. Indoor radon, external gamma dose rates outdoors and indoors and radioactivity in soil were measured in these surveys. The highest mean annual effective dose to the population was found in the surroundings of the Almaraz nuclear power plant in the province of Cáceres and was mainly due to the presence of high radon concentrations in homes. In order to make a more accurate assessment of the dose coming from the radon in this area, a new and more extensive surgery on indoor radon with a total of 380 measurements was carried out in 2000 in the Campo Ara?uelo region around the Almaraz nuclear power station. From the results obtained in this survey, a population-weighted mean annual effective dose from radon exposure of 1.7 mSv y(-1), 44% lower than that previously reported in 1998, was estimated for the whole Campo Ara?uelo region. The maximum dose value due to radon exposure, about 4 mSv y(-1), was reached in the so-called La Vera area located in the north of this region. The relationship between the indoor radon concentrates experimentally measured, the geological characteristics of this geographic area and the information provided by the radiation map of the Spanish MARNA Project is also analyzed, confirming that La Vera area should be considered as a high radon level area. 相似文献

Radon mass exhalation rate of soil samples was measured using an exhalation chamber of 10 dm(3) volume and a Lucas cell. The results show that mass of sample, grain size and water content influence the radon mass exhalation rate. For soil of (226)Ra activity concentration about 2500 Bq kg(-1) and samples within the range from 0.20 kg to 0.50 kg, the radon mass exhalation rate values are higher than those for samples of other masses. The observed radon exhalation rate is an inverse function of the average grain size. At the water content about 6% by weight, the radon mass exhalation rate reaches maximum, then it decreases with both increasing and decreasing of the water content in the sample. 相似文献

The progress of the technology is directly related to the growth of production and consumption of electrical/electronics equipment, especially of personal computers. This type of equipment has a relatively short average lifetime, 2-3 years. The amount of defective or obsolete equipment has been increasing substantially; consequently its disposition and/or recycling should be studied. In this work, printed circuit boards, which are used in personal computers, were studied in order to recover the metals in the circuit boards through mechanical processing, such as crushing, screening, as well as magnetic and electrostatic separation. The results obtained demonstrate the feasibility of using these processes to separate metal fractions from polymers and ceramics, and that it is possible to obtain a fraction concentrated in metals containing more than 50% on average of copper, 24% of tin and 8% of lead. 相似文献

Enchytraeids are typical inhabitants of many soils, contributing to vital processes of this environmental compartment. Indirectly they are involved in regulating the degradation of organic matter, as well as improving the pore structure of the soil. Due to their behaviour, they are able to avoid unfavourable environmental conditions. Avoidance tests with enchytraeids, initially developed with earthworms by several authors, are quick and easy to perform. With these tests a first assessment of the toxicity of a (contaminated or spiked) soil is possible in just 48 h by using the reaction of the enchytraeids as measurement endpoint. In this period of time the organisms can choose between the control soil and the other soil (a contaminated or spiked or another soil with different physico-chemical properties). In the tests reported here, the enchytraeids were exposed to control soils spiked with the fungicides Benomyl and Carbendazim and the herbicide Phenmedipham. Several chemical concentrations were tested in order to evaluate the avoidance behaviour to toxic substances. In fact, often these short-term screening tests gave results showing avoidance at concentrations in a range similar to the acute test results but, higher than in chronic tests. Further tests are needed to decide whether the results gained in this study can be extrapolated to other chemicals. It is proposed to standardize the Enchytraeid Avoidance Test as it is currently done for the Earthworm Avoidance Test by the International Standard Organization (ISO). 相似文献

Monitoring benzenesulfonates (BS) and naphthalenesulfonates (NS) took place in five municipal sewage treatment plants (STP). A previously optimized method based on solid phase extraction with polymeric cartridges followed by ion-pair liquid chromatography-electrospray-mass spectrometry (SPE-IPC-ESI-MS) was used. This work confirmed the little or no effect of primary settlement on total organic carbon (TOC) and monosulfonated compounds removal, whereas the main reduction is obtained at the biological stage. However, the most polar compounds, such as naphthalenedisulfonates (NDS), were not effectively removed using the biological treatment. An aromatic sulfonated compound is suggested to be used as a tracer of the origin of industrial pollutants discharged into STPs. A bioluminescence inhibition test, Microtox assay, allowed toxicity determination of the most relevant aromatic sulfonated compounds detected and toxicity comparison between primary and secondary effluents. 相似文献

Calcareous or dolomitic, often secondarily silicified, laminated microbial structures known as stromatolites are important
keys to reconstruct the chemical and biotic evolution of the early ocean. Most authors assume that cyanobacteria-associated
microbialitic structures described from Shark Bay, Western Australia, and Exuma Sound, Bahamas, represent modern marine analogues
for Precambrian stromatolites. Although they resemble the Precambrian forms macroscopically, their microstructure and mineralogical
composition differ from those characterizing their purported ancient counterparts. Most Precambrian stromatolites are composed
of presumably in situ precipitated carbonates, while their assumed modern marine analogues are predominantly products of accretion
of grains trapped and bound by microbial, predominantly cyanobacterial, benthic mats and biofilms and only occasionally by
their physicochemical activity. It has therefore been suggested that the carbonate chemistry of early Precambrian seawater
differed significantly from modern seawater, and that some present-day quasi-marine or non-marine environments supporting
growth of calcareous microbialites reflect the hydrochemical conditions controlling the calcification potential of Precambrian
microbes better than modern seawater. Here we report the discovery of a non-marine environment sustaining growth of calcareous
cyanobacterial microbialites showing macroscopic and microscopic features resembling closely those described from many Precambrian

Copper binding by peat fulvic and humic acids extracted from two horizons of an ombrotrophic peat bog 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
We studied the binding of Cu(II) to humic acids and fulvic acids extracted from two horizons of an ombrotrophic peat bog by metal titration experiments at pH 4.5, 5.0, 5.5, and 6.0 and 0.1 M KNO3 ionic strength. Free metal ion concentrations in solution were measured using an ion selective electrode. The amounts of base required to maintain constant pH conditions were recorded and used to calculate H+/Cu2+ exchange ratios. The amount of Cu(II) bound to the humic fractions was greater than the amount bound to the fulvic fractions and only at the highest concentrations of metal ion the amount of Cu(II) sorbed by both fractions became equal. The proton to metal ion exchange ratios are similar for all humic substances, with values ranging from 1.0 to 2.0, and decreasing with increased pH. The amount of Cu(II) bound is practically independent of the horizon from which the sample was extracted. The results indicate that the humic substances show similar cation binding behaviour, despite the differences in chemical composition. The copper binding data are quantitatively described with the NICA-Donnan model, which allows to characterize only the carboxylic type binding sites. The values of the binding constants are higher for the humic acids than for the fulvic acids. 相似文献

The content of 30 polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) and the enantiomeric fractions of 10 chiral PCBs were determined in 17 infertile eggs from three different predatory bird species collected in Do?ana National Park (DNP, Spain) in the period 1999-2000. The highest PCB concentration was found in eggs from red kites (0.52-110 microg/g on a fresh weight basis, f.w.) followed by buzzard (0.08-13 microg/g f.w.) and booted eagle (0.10-1.5 microg/g f.w.). Seventy-five percent of the red kite eggs had PCB levels above 4.7 microg/g f.w., which is associated in the literature with reproductive failure. This could be related to the fact that red kite populations have decreased by more than 50% in the last five years in DNP. PCBs # 138, 153, and 180 were the most abundant in all cases. This is the first time that atropisomers of 10 chiral PCBs (PCBs # 45, 84, 91, 95, 132, 135, 136, 149, 174, and 176) in predatory bird eggs have been performed. The enantiomeric fractions (EFs) for most PCBs investigated were non-racemic (EF not = 0.5), ranging from 0.05 to 0.95. The results suggested that predatory birds, mainly red kite species, are highly polluted by PCBs, and PCBs # 95, 132, 135, 136, and 174 strongly deviate from the racemic-mixture values. 相似文献
