The present study was conducted to determine the physico-chemical properties and heavy metal contents in soils under three land uses (agricultural, riverbank and roadside) from areas situated around rivers (Beas and Sutlej) in Punjab, India. Heavy metal contents in wheat samples (grain and fodder) growing in the area were also analyzed in order to find out potential human health risk through wheat consumption. The studied soils under the three land uses were found to be basic in nature with sandy texture, low soil organic matter and other soil nutrients. Comparatively higher amounts of soil nutrients were observed in soils under agricultural land use as compared to riverbank and roadside land uses. The amounts of heavy metals (Cr, Cu, Co and Pb) analyzed in soils were lower than the various national and international maximum permissible limits, but heavy metal contents observed in wheat fodder samples exceeded the maximum permissible limits for fodder. The soil-to-plant metal bioaccumulation factor was found to be highest for Cu (3.812 for soil–wheat grain and 1.874 for soil–wheat fodder), which showed the bioaccumulation of heavy metals from soils to crops, and the wheat straw-to-grain translocation factor was found to be highest for Co (4.375). The hazard index calculated to assess non-carcinogenic health risks was found above 1 for children, meaning that the wheat grains can pose health risks to children. 相似文献

Water-quality parameters and concentrations of various metals in bed sediments of the River Kali and the River Hindon in India were analysed to understand their behaviour in subtropical fluvial systems. Variations in the physico-chemical parameters of the river water and metal content in the bed sediments were recorded in four seasons of the year (post-monsoon, winter, summer and monsoon). Results show that water and sediments contain high cadmium (Cd) and Zinc (Zn). Total and soluble Cd and Zn profiles show that in summer, metals in the water phase exist predominantly in the bound form. Cd and Zn in bed sediments increase from the post-monsoon to the summer season. During and after the monsoon season, metal concentrations in sediments fall rapidly. Thiacloprid, a neonicotinoid insecticide with novel mode of action, is found to be effective against several lepidopteran as well as hemipteran pests. The present studies were carried out to observe the persistence pattern of thiacloprid on brinjal and to suggest suitable waiting period for the safety of consumers. Persistence of thiacloprid in brinjal was studied following three applications of thiacloprid (Alanto 240 SC) at 180 and 360 g a.i. ha?1 at 7 days interval. Residues of thiacloprid in brinjal were estimated by high-performance liquid chromatography and were confirmed by liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry. The average initial deposits of thiacloprid were observed to be 0.48 and 1.05 mg?kg?1 on the brinjal fruit following third application of thiacloprid at recommended and double the recommended dosages, respectively. Half-life periods for thiacloprid were found to be 0.47 and 0.50 days at single and double the application rates, respectively. Residues of thiacloprid declined below its limit of quantification of 0.05 mg?kg?1 after 3 and 5 days, respectively, at recommended and double the recommended application rates. Therefore, the use of thiacloprid does not seem to pose any risk hazard and a waiting period of 1 day is suggested for safe consumption of brinjal fruits. 相似文献

Twelve bacterial species were evaluated to know the degradation pattern of thiamethoxam in liquid medium. All the bacterial species could actively degrade phorate in a mineral salt medium containing phorate (50 μg ml–1) as sole carbon source. As these species have ability to degrade, we used these for the degradation of thiamethoxam—a neonicoitinoids. Screening of 12 active phorate-metabolizing bacterial species resulted in selection of Bacillus aeromonas strain IMBL 4.1 and Pseudomonas putida strain IMBL 5.2 causing 45.28 and 38.23 % thiamethoxam (50 μg ml?1) reduction, respectively, in 15 days as potential thiamethoxam degrading species. These two bacterial species grew optimally at 37 °C under shake culture conditions in MSMT medium raised with initial pH of 6.0–6.5 and use of these optimum cultural conditions resulted in improved thiamethoxam degradation by these bacterial species. These species caused maximum thiamethoxam degradation only in the presence of thiamethoxam as sole source of carbon and energy and the same was reduced in the presence of easily metabolize able carbon (C0 and C1) and nitrogen ((N0, N1 and N2) sources. This could be attributed to involvement of repressible metabolic pathways, reactions of which are inhibited by the presence of easily available nutrients for growth. Besides above, qualitative analysis of thiamethoxam residues by gas liquid chromatography revealed complete metabolization of thiamethoxam without detectable accumulation of any known thiamethoxam metabolites. 相似文献

The paper exploits the development of novel, simple and sensitive methodology involving matrix solid phase dispersion (MSPD) and the comparison of MSPD with liquid-liquid extraction (LLE) for the evaluation of residual penoxsulam in soil and rice samples. Extracted samples were analyzed by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) with ultraviolet detector at 230 nm. Both methods were optimized, considering different parameters, and under optimum conditions, the mean recoveries obtained were in the range of 85–104 % for MSPD and 78.8–90.7 % for LLE. Precision values expressed as relative standard deviation (RSD) were ≤10 for MSPD and ≤15 for LLE. Linearity for penoxsulam was in the range of 0.01–20 μg mL?1 with limits of detection and limits of quantification of 0.01 and 0.03 mg kg?1, respectively. 相似文献

Often the lifecycle data occur as count of the vital events and are recorded as integers. The purpose of this article is to model the fertility behavior based on religious, educational, economic, and occupational characteristics. The responses of classified groups according to these determinants are examined for significant influence on fertility using Poisson regression model (PRM) based on the National Family Health Survey -3 dataset. The observed and predicted probabilities under PRM indicate modal value of two children for the Poisson distribution modeled data. Presence of dominance of two child in the data motivates the authors to adopt multinomial regression model (MRM) in order to link fertility with various socioeconomic indicators responsible for fertility variation. Choice of the explanatory factors is limited to the availability of data. Trends and patterns of preference for birth counts suggest that religion, caste, wealth, female education, and occupation are the dominant factors shaping the observed birth process. Empirical analysis suggests that both the models used in the study perform similarly on the sample data. However, fitting of MRM by taking birth count of two as comparison category shows improved Akaike information criterion and consistent Akaike information criterion values. Current work contributes to the existing literature as it attempts to provide more insight into the determinants of Indian fertility using Poisson and MRM. 相似文献
