Two monitoring surveys were repeated in Galicia (NW Spain): one in 2003 concerned the rocky shore gastropod Nucella lapillus (19 populations, the reference campaign in 1996), the other dealt in 2005 with the infaunal snail Nassarius reticulatus (25 sites, the previous one in 2000). Samples were subject to a standard protocol to determine the concentrations of butyltins (BTs) in tissues. Results show that pollution in most populations has considerably decreased over the last decade: for N. lapillus the mean descent ranged from 37% (for tributyltin -TBT-) to 66% (for monobutyltin -MBT-), and TBT concentrations were on average halved in N. reticulatus. However, derivatives generally increased in this latter species, to the extent that dibutyltin -DBT- in several 2005 samples exceeded the aggregate of all three BTs in 2000. As a consequence, a major change in the bioaccumulation patterns becomes evident, particularly when computing the butyltin degradation index [BDI: (DBT+MBT)/TBT]. This shift is most marked at sites where pollution has always been lowest, and it shows significant negative correlation between both gastropods. Since sources other than antifouling paints are not important in the area, it is proposed that observations are due to BT desorption from sediments through some interplay involving the different characteristics of the chemicals and the contrasting biology of the animals. 相似文献

In recent years, volatile fatty acid (VFA) production through anaerobic fermentation of sewage sludge, instead of methane production, has been regarded as a high-value and promising roadmap for sludge stabilization and resource recovery. This review first presents the effects of some essential factors that influence VFA production and composition. In the second part, we present an extensive analysis of conventional pretreatment and co-fermentation strategies ultimately addressed to improving VFA production and composition. Also, the effectiveness of these approaches is summarized in terms of sludge degradation, hydrolysis rate, and VFA production and composition. According to published studies, it is concluded that some pretreatments such as alkaline and thermal pretreatment are the most effective ways to enhance VFA production from sewage sludge. The possible reasons for the improvement of VFA production by different methods are also discussed. Finally, this review also highlights several current technical challenges and opportunities in VFA production with spectrum control, and further related research is proposed. 相似文献

Bioaerosol concentrations were investigated in a totally indoor composting facility processing fermentable household and green wastes to assess their variability. Stationary samples were collected by filtration close to specific composting operations and then were analysed for cultivable mesophilic bacteria, thermophilic bacteria, mesophilic fungi, thermophilic fungi, endotoxins and total airborne bacteria (DAPI-staining). Indoor concentrations exceeded the background levels, between 500 and 5400 EU m(-3) for endotoxins, 10(4) and 10(6) CFU m(-3) for cultivable bacteria and generally below 10(5) CFU m(-3) for airborne cultivable fungi. No significant (p > 0.05) differences were observed between the indoor composting operations. Successive 30 minute bioaerosol samples were collected to investigate the variation of cultivable mesophilic microorganisms over the work shift. Concentrations of mesophilic bacteria and fungi varied up to 1 log unit depending on the time at which they were collected in the day. Total airborne particles, counted using an optical particle counter, were present at up to 10(8) particles m(-3) and several concentration peaks were noted. Values for total airborne bacteria were roughly 70-fold higher than cultivable bacteria. These results raise the question of the sampling strategy (duration of sampling; number of samples to be collected) used in similar studies. They provide new bioaerosol concentration data in a composting facility and suggest that the filtration sampling method might be a useful tool for exposure measurements in that occupational environment. 相似文献

This work was initiated to study the effects of climate induced soil water status variations which can reach extreme values under natural conditions on the sorption process of hydrophobic organic compounds. Based on the classical slurry batch methodology an approach is developed that allows the fast and careful complete drying of soil suspensions (microwave technique). Classical adsorption experiments were followed by three desorption steps with and without drying cycles. Drying and re-wetting enhanced the sorption-desorption hysteresis and Freundlich adsorption coefficients increased from 5.9 to 16 and 5.2 to 21 over three drying cycles for diuron and terbuthylazine respectively. Assuming the validity of a dual stage adsorption process, model evaluation suggests that drying is as a shrinking-like process leading to conformational changes of the dominant sorbent (soil organic matter) which restrict the intra-micro-particle diffusion. The production of Acid Mine Drainage (AMD) as a result of the oxidative dissolution of sulphides is one of the main pollution problems affecting natural watercourses in mining environments with sulphide-rich residues. In this work, the generation of AMD was prevented by means of the addition of fly ash to sulphide-rich residues in non-saturated column experiments. A column experiment filled with a pyrite-rich sludge with artificial irrigation leached acid drainages (pH approx. 2) containing high concentrations of sulphate, iron and other metals. However, non-saturated column experiments filled with pyritic-rich sludge and fly ash drained leachates characterized by alkaline pH (pH up to 10), low sulphate concentration, and lack of iron and other metals in solution. The pyrite oxidative dissolution at high pH, as a consequence of the leaching of fly ash, favours the metal precipitation inside the column (mainly iron), the coating of pyrite grains, and the attenuation of the oxidation process, resulting in a great improvement in the quality of the leachates. 相似文献

Parque Porcino de Ventanilla has an extension of 840ha with 2200 farmers dedicated to pig production. There is a lack of services in the area (i.e., water supply, electricity, or waste collection). Anaerobic treatment of pig manure would replace current dumping and incineration, reducing environmental pollution and hazards to public health, as well as providing an organic fertilizer and biogas. The objective of the present work was to study the viability of ambient temperature anaerobic digestion of pig manure diluted in urine, by means of on-site pilot scale reactors. The final goal was to establish design parameters for anaerobic digesters to be implemented; since it was part of a project to improve life conditions for the farmers through the incorporation of better management techniques. Experiments were carried out in a low-cost pilot plant, which consists of three anaerobic digesters (225L total volume), without heating or agitation, placed in a greenhouse. The start-up of the digestion process was performed with a mixture of temperature adapted pig manure-sludge and fresh rumen, and showed a good performance regardless of the dilution of pig manure with water or urine, which is a key parameter due to the scarcity of water in the area under study. 相似文献

The cytotoxic effects of seven carbamate pesticides, aldicarb, aldicarb sulfone, aldicarb sulfoxide, benfuracarb, pirimicarb, propoxur and thiobencarb, were compared in Chinese hamster ovary (CHO-K1) cell line of Circetulus griseus. The endpoints evaluated were lysosomal function by neutral red assay and mitochondrial integrity by 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT assay). The carbamates tested were evaluated in both serum-free medium and in serum-containing medium. Results demonstrate that CHO-K1 lysosomes appeared more susceptible to propoxur, aldicarb and its metabolites than mitochondria. Aldicarb was the most toxic carbamate pesticide tested on CHO-K1 cells and aldicarb sulfoxide the least. The presence of foetal calf serum (FCS) diminished significantly the cytotoxicity of tested carbamates. 相似文献

The deficiency trials of some trace metals (copper, nickel, zinc) were made in laboratory Upflow Anaerobic Sludge Blanket (UASB) reactors containing the inoculum of an industrial anaerobic sludge, a basal medium with the rest of nutrients and vitamins in comparison with a control reactor with the optimal doses of trace elements. From the main control parameters (alkalinity, acidity, DQO), no inactivation by deficit of essential elements was detected, but the control reactor showed greater mineralization and solid content, being necessary to make purge to avoid bulking. The inoculum has high metallic element contents, so the additional contribution produces high bacterial growth, also purge being necessary to avoid bulking. The purge, made after 120 days in continuous operation, eliminates a great quantity of solids and increases the volatile solids (VS)/total solids (TS) ratio. The comparison of the initial content of metallic elements in the solid and liquid phases with the contents after 120 days showed a progressive depletion of metals in all reactors without a clear appreciation of the lack of the studied metals. Finally, in 210 days, the reactors without addition of a metallic element accumulated greater quantity of major (Ca, Fe, Mg) and trace (Co, Ni, Cu) elements in the solid phase with respect to the control. 相似文献
