Selective catalytic reduction of NO x by H2 in the presence of oxygen has been investigated over Pt/ Al2O3 catalysts pre-treated under different conditions. Catalyst preparation conditions exert significant influence on the catalytic performance, and the catalyst pre-treated by H2 or H2 then followed by O2 is much more active than that pre-treated by air. The higher surface area and the presence of metallic Pt over Pt/Al2O3 pre-treated by H2 or pretreated by H2 then followed by O2 can contribute to the formation of NO2, which then promotes the reaction to proceed at low temperatures. 相似文献

A local-scale spatially refined multimedia fate model (LSRMFM) was developed to evaluate in detail the multimedia transport of organic compounds at a spatial level. The model was derived using a combination of an advection?Cdispersion?Creaction partial differential equation, a steady-state multimedia fugacity model, and a geographical information system. The model was applied to predicting four major volatile organic compounds that are produced as emissions (benzene, toluene, xylene, and styrene) in an urban and industrial area (the 50?×?50-km area was divided into 0.5?×?0.5-km segments) in Korea. To test the accuracy of the model, the LSRMFM was used to predict the extent of dispersion and the data compared with actual measured concentrations and the results of a generic multimedia fate model (GMFM). The results indicated that the method developed herein is appropriate for predicting long-term multimedia pollution. However, the comparison study also illustrated that the developed model has some limitations (e.g., steady-state assumption) in terms of explaining all the observed concentrations, and additional verification and study (e.g., validation using a large observed data set, integration with a more accurate runoff model) would be desirable. In comparing LSRMFM and GMFM, discrepancies between the LSRMFM and GMFM outputs were found, as the result of geographical effects, even though the environmental parameters were identical. The geographical variation for LSRMFM output indicated the existence of considerable local human and ecological risks, whereas the GMFM output indicated less average risk. These results demonstrate that the model has the potential for improving the management of pollutant levels under these refined spatial conditions. 相似文献

Oil concentrations in the seawater, seabed sediments, and shoreline sediments were measured from the samples collected 165 days after the Keumdong oil spill accident, which had occurred in Kwangyang Bay of the South Sea, Korea in September 1993. Distribution patterns of the concentrations in the seabed and shoreline sediments have allowed us to hindcast the transport and fate of the spilled oil. Overall, the patterns agree better with the southward (seaward) surface water circulation than with the northward (landward) bottom water circulation over the region. Rapid, initial dispersal of the spilled oil to the south and its subsequent grounding onto the intertidal seabed sediments, as well as onto the shorelines, appear to have made ineffective the subsurface oil transport by the bottom current. 相似文献

Plastic recycling has been the key issue for reducing environmental problems and resolving resource depletion. To improve the recovery rate of plastics, the plastic wastes are correctly identified according to their resin type. However, the identification system, which is able to identify black plastics according to not only the type of black plastics but also the grade of resins correctly, has not been introduced. In this paper, laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy, intelligent algorithms and preprocessing algorithms are used to improve the identification of black plastics such as polypropylene, polystyrene (PS), and acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS). The laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy is capable of obtaining the characteristic spectrum regardless of material’s physical state. To extract the new features which are very valuable to improving learning performance, increasing computational efficiency, and building better generalization models from the obtained spectra through laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy, the hybrid preprocessing algorithm, composed of principal component analysis and independent component analysis, is used. In addition, the intelligent algorithm named the extended radial basis function neural networks inheriting the advantages of fuzzy theory and neural networks is used to identify black plastic samples into several categories with respect to their resins. The proposed identification system, composed of three parts such as laser induced breakdown spectroscopy, hybrid preprocessing algorithms, and an efficient intelligent classification algorithm, is able to show the synergy effect on the black plastic identification problem. From several experimental results, it can be seen that the identification system based on laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy and the intelligent algorithm is used for identification of black plastics by resin type. 相似文献

A CGA→TGA mutation at codon 111 in exon 3 of the phenylalanine hydroxylase (PAH) gene was recently identified in a Chinese phenylketonuria (PKU) patient. This paper reports the prenatal diagnosis of a Chinese fetus at risk for PKU using DNA amplification with PCR and oligonucleotide hybridization. RFLP analysis revealed that the fetus had inherited a PKU gene from his mother, but his paternal PAH gene was uninformative. PCR amplification of 300 bp which included exon 3 plus the flanking intronic sequences of the PAH gene was performed. The amplified DNA was hybridized with a pair of allele-specific oligonucleotide probes. The results indicated that the fetal DNA carried a PAH 111 Arg→Ter mutant gene inherited from his father. Thus, the fetus was predicted to be affected with PKU. 相似文献

Experiments were performed to investigate various adsorbents for their mercury removal capabilities from incineration flue gases. Four different materials were tested; Zeolite, Bentonite, activated carbon (AC), and wood char. Real incineration off-gas and in-lab simulated combustion flue gases (N2 + Hg) were used. Three cylindrical-shaped sorbent columns with 5 cm in diameter and 20 cm in length were used. The gas flow rate was fixed at 660 l/h at all times. Concentrations of NO, CO, O2, CO2, SO2, H2O, HCl, and mercury were continuously monitored. Mercury removal efficiencies of natural Zeolite and Bentonite were found to be much lower than those of the referenced AC. Amount of Hg removed were 9.2 and 7.4 microg/g of Zeolite and Bentonite, respectively. Removal efficiencies of each layer consisted of inorganic adsorbents were no higher than 7%. No significant improvement was observed with sulfur impregnation onto the inorganic adsorbents. Organic adsorbents (wood char and AC) showed much higher mercury removal efficiencies than those of inorganic ones (Zeolite and Bentonite). Mercury removal efficiency of wood char reached over 95% in the first layer, showing almost same effectiveness as AC which currently may be the most effective adsorbents for mercury. Amount of mercury captured by wood char was approximately 0.6 mg/g of wood char, close to the amount captured by AC tested in this study. This study was initiated to identify the impact of metals and uranium enriched soil and black shale in groundwater quality and contamination. From a Piper diagram, groundwater was classified into four types as (Ca+Mg)–HCO3 type, (Ca+Mg)–SO4 type, the mixed type of these two and Na–HCO3 type, reflecting the complicated nature of geology of the study area. Silicate weathering appeared to be the major water–rock interaction. In groundwater, metals including Cr, Pb, Cu and V, previously identified as being enriched in soils and black shale, were much lower in concentrations than Korean and US EPA drinking water guidelines. Instead, Fe and Mn caused major water-quality problems. In the artesian groundwater from an abandoned uranium mine, the uranium concentration was 21.3 µg L–1, slightly higher than EPA guidelines of 20 µg L–1. Heavy metals in groundwater appeared to be controlled mostly by sorptions on to Fe- and Mn-oxyhydroxides. They could be remobilised in groundwater with changes of pH and Eh conditions due to acid mine drainage from black shale or the recharge of fresh water. Uranium would be associated with carbonate and sulphate complexes in groundwater. Because of the remaining water-quality problems in the study area, we suggested containment of identified mine wastes, considering remedial measures for local problems with Fe and Mn, continuous monitoring of groundwater and developing groundwater from deep aquifers. 相似文献

Haemoglobin A2 (HbA2) levels were determined on 25 β-thalassaemia carriers by the microcolumn method and were found to range from 4.5–7.2 per cent (mean 5.2±0.82 S.D.). The haemoglobin level (Hb), mean corpuscular volume (MCV), plasma ferritin and HbA2 levels were measured on a further 299 cconsecutive Chinese pregnant women at a gestation of less than 24 weeks. 18 patients (6 per cent) had HbA2 level greater than 4.5 per cent and were diagnosed to be β-thalassaemic carriers. It was observed that all these patients had a MCV below 75 fl. If this level is selected in a screening procedure based on measurement of MCV alone all β-thalassaemia carriers could be detected and 11 per cent of the population screened would require HbA2 estimation. At a lower cut-off level of 70 fl, 8 per cent of the population screened wouid require HbA2 measurement (a decrease of 27 per cent) but the detection rate will be lowered considerably (83 per cent). The high false positive rate at all cut-off levels of MCV was largely due to the prevalence of iron deficiency anaemia in the population. Estimation of plasma ferritin level in patients with low MCV will reduce this false positive rate, but there will be a considerable delay in diagnosis in patients with concomitant iron deficiency and β-thalassaemia. The presence of iron deficiency in β-thalassaemia carriers did not reduce their HbA2 level below the diagnostic range in this study. Measurement of Hb level did not appear to be useful as a screening method since one third of the β-thalassaemia carriers had a Hb level over 11 g/dl. The validity of the MCV cut-off levels derived from the first part of the study was assessed in screening a larger population. 61 β-thalassaemia carriers (6 per cent) were detected out of 1166 patients screened. This incidence was not significantly different from the first part of the study. All these 61 patients had a MCV less than 75 ml. It was concluded that a two-step screening policy, based on MCV measurement followed by HbA2 estimation when the MCV value is less than 75 fl, is suitable for our population.
