Circling and linear flights of a hairstreak Chrysozephyrus smaragdinus were recorded in natural habitat with a high-speed video camera. Circling flight paths were resolved into rotation and shift
components; values on X- and Y-coordinates of the butterfly position were separately extracted against time and fitted with a regression line composed of
a sinusoidal curve and a linear line. From the obtained parameters, diameter, rotation number, and flight velocity were calculated.
Flapping movements were also analyzed. Two types of circling flights, horizontal and vertical, were discriminated. In both
flights, the rotation diameter was about 10 cm, rotation number of 3/s, flight velocity of 0.9 m/s, and wing-beat frequency
of 20/s. The coordination of paired butterflies in circling flight showed a higher correlation in the horizontal circling
flight. In the vertical circling flight, butterflies accelerated the downstroke speed of the wing in the ascending phase.
They flew about four times faster in linear flights than in circling flights due to the higher frequency of wing beats. 相似文献

A sample of commercial BADGE was fractioned by HPLC and eight impurities including novel propyl derivatives (2), (5) and (6) were identified by NMR spectrometry, FAB-MS and GC-MS. The estrogenicity, both agonist and antagonist, of fractions containing these impurities was measured with a yeast two-hybrid assay incorporating the human (hER alpha) and a competitive binding assay for hER alpha (ELISA). In the yeast two-hybrid assay, estrogenic antagonist activity was found in two fractions, while estrogenic agonist activity was not found in any. In the ELISA method, the binding affinity to hER alpha was found in three fractions. It is probable that a comprehensive assessment of the estrogenic properties of commercial BADGE, and their implications for human health, will require examination of all its components as described here. 相似文献

Five fluidized bed incinerators combusting municipal solid waste were assessed for the impact of coplanar PCBs on total TEQ emission. In 17 stack measurements, the coplanar PCBs contributed on average less than 3% to total TEQ with a maximum contribution of 7.5% to total TEQ in one measurement. Differences in the design of the flue gas cooling section did not show an effect on the impact of coplanar PCBs on total TEQ. The effect of emission control devices on the impact of coplanar PCBs on the total TEQ was studied in more detail at one incinerator. The relative contribution of PCBs to total TEQ increased along the flue gas line. This was caused by a slightly higher removal efficiency for TEQ relevant PCDDs/PCDFs compared to coplanar PCBs by the bag filters and a higher destruction efficiency for PCDDs/PCDFs compared to PCBs by the SCR catalyst. Additionally, the removal efficiencies of the emission control devices (bag filters and catalyst) for other chlorinated aromatic compounds which have been proposed as TEQ indicator compounds (polychlorinated benzenes and polychlorinated phenols) were compared with those for PCDDs/PCDFs and coplanar PCBs. Removal efficiencies for polychlorinated benzenes or polychlorinated phenols considerably differed from those of PCDD/PCDF and coplanar PCBs. Implications for TEQ assessments using indicator compounds as proposed in the literature are discussed. 相似文献

Controlled laboratory experiments were conducted to examine how photosynthesis and growth occur in Potamogeton wrightii Morong under different photoperiods and nutrient conditions. The experiment was based on a 3×2 factorial design with three photoperiods (16, 12 and 8 h) of 200 μE · m?2·s?1 irradiance and two nutrient conditions, high (90 μmol N · L?1·d?1 and 9 μmol P · L?1·d?1) and low (30 μmol N L?1·d?1 and 3 μmol P · L?1·d?1). After 14, 28, 56 and 70 days of growth, plants were harvested to determine net photosynthesis rate and various growth parameters. Above- and below-ground biomass were investigated on days 56 and 70 only. Plants under low nutrient conditions had greater leaf area, more chlorophyll a, a higher rate of net photosynthesis and accumulated more above- and below-ground biomass than plants in the high nutrient condition. Plants with an 8 h photoperiod in the low nutrient condition had a significantly higher rate of net photosynthesis, whereas 8 h photoperiod plants in the high nutrient condition had a lower rate of net photosynthesis and their photosynthetic capacity collapsed on day 70. We conclude that P. wrightii has the photosynthetic plasticity to overcome the effects of a shorter photoperiod under a tolerable nutrient state. 相似文献

A simple system to evaluate the 222Rn (radon) exhalation rate from soil has been improved. A sampling cuvette of 2.1 L is placed so that it covers the targeted ground soil, and radon emanating from the soil accumulates within the cuvette for 24 h. Its internal radon concentration is measured by the combination of an activated charcoal (PICO-RAD) and a liquid scintillation counting system. This study shows variations of the conversion factor (CF: unit Bq m(-3)/cpm) of PICO-RAD. The range of CF due to temperature (10-30 degrees C) was between -21% and +69%, and this due to humidity (30-90%) was between 0% and -15%. Humidity and radon concentration in the cuvette covering soil tended to saturate in a few hours. The above information was used to correct the CF for the evaluation. The improved system shows high reliability and can be easily applied to natural environments. 相似文献

We investigated the changes in temperatures in Takamatsu, Tadotsu and Osaka areas in Japan. Data of temperatures in Takamatsu (urban area: 1942-2009), Tadotsu (rural area: 1893-2009) and Osaka (metropolitan area: 1883-2009) areas around the Inland Sea in Japan was obtained from Japan Meteorological Agency. The changes in temperatures in three areas in Japan were analyzed and compared. By using data from 1942 to 2009, various parameters of temperatures were significantly correlated with years. The changes in mean temperature in August and in a year in Takamatsu area for 50 years were highest (August: 1.6°C, Year: 1.8°C) among three areas. In addition, correlation coefficient rate between years and the number of days over the level of 34°C in August in Takamatsu area was highest (r = 0.567, p < 0.0001). Parameters of temperatures were gradually increased with years in all three areas. The heat island effect in Takamatsu area was similar to Osaka area in Japan. 相似文献

Preparation of alginate-chitosan hybrid gel beads and adsorption of divalent metal ions 总被引:4,自引:0,他引:4
Naturally occurring polysaccharides such as alginic acid and chitosan have been recognized as one of the most effective adsorbents to eliminating low levels of heavy metal ions from waste water stream. The present study intended to use alginic acid and chitosan simultaneously, which are expected to form a rigid matrix structure of beads due to electrostatic interaction between carboxyl groups on alginic acid and amino groups on chitosan, and to prepare alginate-chitosan hybrid gel beads. This could be achieved for the first time by using water-soluble chitosan, which was obtained by deacetylating chitin to 36-39% degree. The water-soluble chitosan dissolved in water could remain in solution in the presence of sodium alginate, and the homogeneous solution of chitosan and alginate was dispensed into a CuCl2 solution to give gel bead particles. The resultant beads were then reinforced by a cross-linking reaction of aldehyde groups on glutaraldehyde with amine groups on the chitosan. The cross-linking reaction made the beads durable under acidic conditions. The adsorption of Cu(II), Co(II), and Cd(II) on the beads was significantly rapid and reached at equilibrium within 10 min at 25 degrees C. Adsorption isotherms of the metal ions on the beads exhibited Freundlich and/or Langmuir behavior, contrary to gel beads either of alginate or chitosan showing a step-wise shape of adsorption isotherm. 相似文献

For the precise estimation of the risk to human health caused by persistent organic pollutants (POPs), it is important to discuss enantiomer fraction value (EF value) because it is reported that behaviors such as stability and toxicity of enantiomers are quite different in human body. Among POPs, polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB) is known as one of the most persistent compounds in human breast milk samples. The main exposure source of PCB for human body is mostly from food especially in seafood. The contamination of fish and shellfish has been a serious problem for the Japanese, who consume a large amount of fish in their diet. PCBs have 19 congeners which are chlorine-substituted in 3- or 4- ortho positions are known to have enantiomers. In this study, we analyzed PCB 183 (2,2′,3,4,4′,5′,6-hepta CB) in human breast milk and fish samples enantioselectively and revealed the time trends of the EF value. Though EF value of PCB 183 in fish samples sustained close to racemate (EF?=?0.5) from 1982 to 2012, that in breast milk increased over time. This fact indicates that (+)-PCB-183 has greater bioaccumulation potential than (-)-PCB-183 in human body; therefore, the toxicity of (+)-PCB-183 should be emphasized. 相似文献
