In the rapidly urbanizing country like India, the transportation sector is growing rapidly, which lead to overcrowded roads
producing air and noise pollution. Noise of a particular region is influenced by the volume of traffic on the highway, in
addition to other causative factors like existing infrastructure and industrial setup etc. In the present paper, a geographical
information system (GIS)-based noise simulation model has been developed to generate noise levels in Versova region of Mumbai,
India. The study area comprises effect of infrastructure, road network, traffic volume, and various mechanical components
like sewage pumping station and wastewater treatment facility. Various meteorological parameters and effect of land use and
land cover on noise attenuation are also considered in the model. In this way, commutative noise prediction for point as well
as mobile sources has been presented in the study. GIS-based noise simulation has been calibrated with observed noise levels
during day and night time with correlation of 0.84 and 0.74, respectively. 相似文献
In the present study, noise levels were measured in two different areas within Haridwar City viz., residential and commercial
area, on festive day and non-festive day (after) of Deepawali in November 2007. The results show that there is an enhanced
pressure of noise during the festival of light. The average noise level on festive day shows a rise of 29.6 and 18.1% when
compared to non-festive day, respectively, for residential and commercial area. 相似文献
Groundwater samples from the shallow unconfined aquifer were collected from fifteen borewells in Kalpakkam nuclear plant site and were analysed for various physico-chemical parameters. The pH, temperature, salinity, TDS and EC were measured in the field. The borewell samples were analysed in the laboratory for Ca(2+), Mg(2+), Na(+), Cl(-), [Formula: see text], [Formula: see text], [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text]. The Piper Trilinear diagram showed that majority of the borewell samples fall in Na - Cl +SO(4) type and Na - CO(3)+HCO(3) type. The Cl: HCO3 ratio of some borewell samples are categorized under injuriously contaminated to highly injurious type. The higher salinity levels encountered in some borewells emphasized the need for better understanding of groundwater corrosiveness. Accordingly, the Langeliar saturation Index (SI), Aggressivity index (AI) and Larson ratio (LnR) were evaluated for assessing the corrosive nature of the groundwater. The saline water incursion in the southern part of the study area increased the ionic concentration of Cl(-) and [Formula: see text] that made the groundwater corrosive. 相似文献
ABSTRACT: Drawing an analogy between the popular Soil Conservation Service curve number (SCS‐CN) method based infiltration and metal sorption processes, a new partitioning curve number (PCN) approach is suggested for partitioning of heavy metals into dissolved and particulate bound forms in urban snowmelt, rainfall/runoff, and river flow environments. The parameters, the potential maximum desorption, ψ, and the PCN analogous to the SCS‐CN parameters S and CN, respectively, are introduced. Under the condition of snowmelt, PCN (or ψ) is found to generally rely on temperature, relative humidity, pH, and chloride content; during a rainstorm, ψ is found to depend on the alkalinity and the pH of the rainwater; and in the river flow situation, PCN is found to generally depend on the temperature, pH, and chloride content. The advantage of using PCN instead of the widely used partitioning parameter, Kd, is found to lie in the PCN's efficacy to distinguish the adsorption (or sorption) behavior of metals in the above snowmelt, rainfall/runoff, and river flow situations, analogous to the hydrological behavior of watersheds. 相似文献
The locomotor activity rhythm of flies from four populations of Drosophila melanogaster, maintained under constant light for more than 600 generations, was recorded in continuous light (LL) and continuous darkness (DD) using four different protocols. The main objective behind these experiments was to estimate the proportion of flies exhibiting circadian rhythm of locomotor activity in LL, and to investigate whether this could be increased by subjecting the flies to various light regimes. About 26% of the flies exhibited a circadian rhythm of locomotor activity in LL, and the proportion increased to about 48% after an exposure to 12 h of darkness. About 77% of the flies exhibited a circadian locomotor activity rhythm in DD. Persistence of circadian locomotor activity rhythm in a considerable proportion of these flies suggests an intrinsic adaptive value to possessing circadian rhythmicity, derived, perhaps, from the need to synchronise various processes within the organism. 相似文献
Cybil, 25%EC formulation of Cypermethrin, induces biochemical changes in the liver of wistar rats after oral intubation of the same at acute (one day) and subacute (7, 14 and 21 days) levels. The changes were tallied with the controls run simultaneously. LD50 of Cybil was estimated to be 622mg/kg body weight The acute dose is 80mg/kg body weight exposed for one day i.e. 24 hours and subacute dose is 4mg/kg body weight exposed for 7, 14 and 21 days. When compared with the control values, both the doses enhanced the level of glycogen, cholesterol, total lipid and acid phosphatase activities, while decreased activity of alkaline phosphatase. Alterations in glycogen, cholesterol, total lipid, acid phosphatase and alkaline phosphatase resulted in the impairement in liver physiology. 相似文献
Residues of several organochlorine insecticides were monitored in the ground water from a rural area near Farrukhabad in the vicinity of the Ganga River in northern India for one year (1991–1992). Almost all the samples were found to be contaminated with residues of Hexachlorocyclohexane (HCH) and Dichloro-diphenyl-trichloroethane (DDT). Residues of Aldrin, endosulfan and heptachlor were also detected in a large number of samples. The concentrations of aldrin residues greatly exceeded the WHO guideline value for drinking water, concentrations of heptachlor and DDT residues also occasionally exceeded the specified limits. Migration of pollutants through ground water recharge with polluted Ganga River water and monsoon rains carrying undergraded residues downwards from the soil surface are throught to be important sources of insecticide contamination of ground water in the region. 相似文献
Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), organochlorine pesticides (OCPs) and phenolic compounds (PCs) are persistent organic compounds. Contamination of these potentially toxic organic pollutants in soils and sediments is most studied environmental compartments. In recent past, studies were carried out on PAHs, OCPs and PCs in various soils and sediments in India. But, this is the first study on these pollutants in soils and sediments from an urbanized river flood plain area in Delhi, India. During 2018, a total of fifty-four samples including twenty-seven each of soil and sediment were collected and analyzed for thirteen priority PAHs, four OCPs and six PCs. The detected concentration of ∑PAHs, ∑OCPs and ∑PCs in soils ranged between 473 and 1132, 13 and 41, and 639 and 2112 µg/kg, respectively, while their concentrations in sediments ranged between 1685 and 4010, 4.2 and 47, and 553 and 20,983 µg/kg, respectively. PAHs with 4-aromatic rings were the dominant compounds, accounting for 51 and 76% of total PAHs in soils and sediments, respectively. The contribution of seven carcinogen PAHs (7CPAHs) in soils and sediments accounted for 43% and 61%, respectively, to ∑PAHs. Among OCPs, p, p’-DDT was the dominant compound in soils, while α-HCH was found to be dominated in sediments. The concentrations of ∑CPs (chlorophenols) were dominated over ∑NPs (nitrophenols) in both the matrices. Various diagnostic tools were applied for the identification of their possible sources in soil and sediments. The observed concentrations of PAHs, OCPs and PCs were more or less comparable with the recently reports from various locations around the world including India. Soil quality guidelines and consensus-based sediment quality guidelines were applied for the assessment of ecotoxicological health effect.
