Effect of low molecular weight organic acids on adsorption and desorption

The effect of four low molecular weight organic acids on F− adsorption by two variable charge soils was investigated using a batch method. The organic acids reduced F− adsorption through competition by the acids with F− for sorption sites. Oxalic and malonic acids, both of which have simpler chemical structures, were more effective than citric or malic acid. The effect of organic acids on F− adsorption was more prominent at higher pH values and with larger amounts of the organic acids. The desorption study showed that the organic acids enhanced the desorption of F− adsorbed by the soils. In the control and malic acid systems, desorption increased sharply with decreasing pH, while in the oxalic acid system, desorption rose slightly with decreasing pH. Desorption also increased with increasing amount of organic acid added. There are two possible mechanisms for the effect of the organic acids on F− adsorption and desorption: (1)␣competition of the organic acids with F− for adsorption sites and (2) dissolution of the adsorbents, especially dissolution of soil Al. 相似文献

在实验室条件下,研究了Shewanella oneidensis MR-1对磺胺甲噁唑(Sulfamethoxazole,SMX)的降解特性以及低分子有机酸强化Fe(Ⅲ)还原介导的S.oneidensis MR-1对SMX的降解.结果表明,S.oneidensis MR-1对不同浓度SMX的降解能力与体系中的有机酸和Fe(Ⅲ)密切相关.低浓度SMX对其生长影响不大,高浓度时细菌生长则受到抑制,进而抑制SMX的降解率.当低分子有机酸单独加入体系后,S.oneidensis MR-1对SMX的最大降解率为58.5%;Fe(Ⅲ)单独加入体系后,S.oneidensis MR-1对SMX的最大降解率为67.6%.此外,当柠檬酸和Fe(OH)3同时加入体系后,S.oneidensis MR-1对SMX生物降解和铁还原作用促进效果最显著,培养5 d后SMX降解率为90.3%.最后,采用液相色谱-质谱联用仪(LC-MS)对SMX的降解中间产物进行了分析,推测SMX的可能降解途径是由S-N键断裂引起的.本研究以期为地下水污染场地修复提供理论依据. 相似文献

A feasible and relatively readily available analytical method was adapted for the assessment of alcohol ethoxylates (AE) and fatty alcohols (FA) in sediments. This study illustrates the simultaneous measurement of 38 of 114 possible alcohol ethoxylate ethoxymers (AE) and fatty alcohols (FA) found in commercially important AE products. We predicted toxicity for all identified fractions, as well as the total mixture toxicity, relative to three exposure scenarios via sewage treatment plants (STP) for these widely used chemicals in consumer products and hence generate a preliminary environmental risk screening for AE and FA in sediments. The method is based on derivatization of solvent or solid-phase extracts with 2-fluoro-N-methylpyridinium p-toluenesulfonate (Pyr+). The derivatized extracts were analyzed with liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry (LC/MS) operating in the positive ion electrospray mode. The extraction efficiency of AE and FA in three different sediments of varying composition was evaluated with spike-recovery studies, ranging from 64% to 80%. The detection limits for individual ethoxymers typically ranged from 1 to 5ngg−1on a dry weight basis. The mean limit of detection (LOD) was 6ngg−1and the median LOD was 3ngg−1. AE and FA in sediments were found to be stable for two weeks if preserved with 3% (v/v) formalin and stored at 4–6∘C. Based on equilibrium partitioning, background concentrations of AE and FA were predicted to be below concentrations known to elicit chronically toxic effects. Total worst case mixture toxicities for all AE ethoxymers combined with FA were predicted to result in a risk quotient less than 0.6. Activated sludge treatment (STP) significantly reduced the release of total AE and FA by four-fold, suggesting that the total mixture risk quotient would be < 0.15 for sediment dependent organisms. 相似文献

Microbial source tracking (MST) methods need to be rapid, inexpensive and accurate. Unfortunately, many MST methods provide a wealth of information that is difficult to interpret by the regulators who use this information to make decisions. This paper describes the use of classification tree analysis to interpret the results of a MST method based on fatty acid methyl ester (FAME) profiles of Escherichia coli isolates, and to present results in a format readily interpretable by water quality managers. Raw sewage E. coli isolates and animal E. coli isolates from cow, dog, gull, and horse were isolated and their FAME profiles collected. Correct classification rates determined with leaveone-out cross-validation resulted in an overall low correct classification rate of 61%. A higher overall correct classification rate of 85% was obtained when the animal isolates were pooled together and compared to the raw sewage isolates. Bootstrap aggregation or adaptive resampling and combining of the FAME profile data increased correct classification rates substantially. Other MST methods may be better suited to differentiate between different fecal sources but classification tree analysis has enabled us to distinguish raw sewage from animal E. coli isolates, which previously had not been possible with other multivariate methods such as principal component analysis and cluster analysis. 相似文献

Raw water from the Bangkok (Thailand) main municipal water supply canal was examined for its natural organic composition by fractionation with adsorption resins. DAX-8 resin was the first resin employed to fractionate the hydrophobic fractions. Fractionation at neutral pH resulted in the separation of the hydrophobic neutral components; at a high pH level (approx. 10) separation of the hydrophobic base components occurred; and at a low pH level (approx. 2) the hydrophobic acid components were separated. AG-MP-50 cationic resin was then used to separate the hydrophilic base components, and WA-10, a weak anionic resin, was applied finally to fractionate the hydrophilic acid and neutral components. Subsequently, each fraction was tested for its chlorine disinfection by-product (DBP) formation potential. The HAA formation tests demonstrated that the various organic fractions had different reactivity levels for the formation of haloacetic acids (HAAs). For this source water, the hydrophilic neutral fraction dominated over the other five fractions in being the main organic component and the most significant precursor of HAAs formation. On the other hand, in terms of specific HAA formation potential (FP), the hydrophobic and hydrophilic base fractions were the most reactive precursors to the formation of HAAs. 以固定化酶酸化相和UASB产甲烷相为两相厌氧系统进行连续流实验,研究了酸化相和产甲烷相中的有机酸和乙醇的变化特征、变化速率,挥发性有机酸组成,发酵类型以及对COD去除率的影响.结果表明:酸化相的酸化率为28.2%,水解产物组成中乙醇>乙酸>丁酸>丙酸,其中乙醇占44.8%,乙酸占38.4%,丙酸为6.9%,丁酸为9.8%,为乙醇型发酵类型.在产甲烷相中乙醇被去除99.8%,乙酸为92.0%,丙酸为59.1%,丁酸为46.2%,呈乙醇>乙酸>丙酸>丁酸;比较有机酸和乙醇的去除速率呈乙醇>乙酸>丁酸>丙酸,其中乙醇在产甲烷相中去除速率最快为0.21h-1.系统运行稳定,COD去除率达到90%以上,其中对COD去除贡献率顺序为乙醇>乙酸>丁酸>丙酸, 相似文献

处于稳定产甲烷阶段的填埋层具有降解回灌渗滤液有机物的能力,但高浓度渗滤液的主要组分(挥发性脂肪酸(VFA))可能影响填埋层的甲烷化代谢,导致填埋层对回灌渗滤液有机物降解效率恶化.采用实验室模拟填埋柱回灌不同ρ(VFA)模拟渗滤液的方法,研究不同VFA负荷对稳定产甲烷阶段填埋层甲烷化代谢的影响.结果表明:稳定产甲烷填埋层具有处理高ρ(VFA-C)渗滤液的能力,其有机碳的转化能力小于1.0 g/(kg·d);当回灌渗滤液中的ρ(VFA-C)大于14.8g/L(有机负荷为2.2 g/(kg·d))时可抑制填埋层的甲烷化代谢,但这种抑制可随着回灌渗滤液中ρ(VFA-C)的降低而得到解除;为保证填埋层内垃圾的降解,应控制回灌渗滤液的有机负荷不超过1.0g/(k·d). 相似文献
