This paper describes emergency medical preparedness during FIFA (Fédération Internationale de Football Association) World Cup matches in Frankfurt, Germany, in 2006. The methods employed were document analysis and personal observation of games over five days in June–July 2006. The medical authorities in Frankfurt drew on a wide range of scientific literature and experiences to elaborate a National Concept. They paid attention to different models of handling mass catastrophes in shaping the final version of the document. The participation of designated authorities, associations, and volunteer organisations was coordinated sufficiently and the games in Frankfurt proceeded without great incident, even though more than 300,000 people in total attended. The adopted emergency medical procedure was appropriate for a mass gathering event. Official and volunteer organisations collaborated precisely in emergency preparedness. While one uniform concept for all mass gatherings events cannot be developed, case reports and experiences are useful tools. 相似文献

The spatial and temporal repercussions of climate change are of an extremely complex nature. Coping with climate change is,
first and foremost, a challenge to political decision making and, considering the long-term effects of the climate system,
to planning. However, there have never been more doubts that the political-administrative system is able to meet these requirements.
Although much evidence has been put forward in favor of such skepticism, sometimes, it is dangerous to overstate the existing
limits. Drawing on two case studies in the area of flood risk management in Germany, the article illustrates how and why significant
path change came about. In both cases, the state proved to still being a pivotal actor, due to a number of functions that
cannot be assumed by other actors. However, other actor groups—such as actors from science, the media, NGOs, and citizen groups—play
a significant role as well by providing relevant expertise and influencing the public discourse, thus mobilizing significant

High spatial resolution maps of deposition loads in Germanyare produced as an input for abatement strategy research andfor critical loads exceedance calculations on a nationalscale. In this paper methods ofmapping total deposition loads in Germany and preliminarymaps of nitrogen and sulphur deposition loads for the year1993 are presented. A comparison of these mapping resultswith EMEP deposition mapping results has been carried out.The differences in the results of the German national and theEuropean EMEP mapping, due to different databases anddifferent methods, are quantified and discussed. Highresolution maps of deposition loads are compared to Europeanlow resolution maps on the same temporal and spatial scale,assuming that on average both should lead to similar results.However, the average differencescalculated for 23 EMEP 150 × 150 km2 grid cells over Germanywere found to be 33% higher for sulphur (S) total depositionby the German method 65% higher for S dry deposition and1% lower for S wet deposition. The German results fornitrogen (N) total deposition are 2% higher than the EMEPresult 22% higher for N dry deposition and 10% lower for Nwet deposition. 相似文献

Abstract German reunification had significant political, economic, social, and environmental impacts. A major environmental impact involved changes to the German technological hazardscape (especially in the East). Hazardscapes are defined here as the spatial distribution and attributes of human engineered facilities such as industrial plants, military bases and power stations that contain or emit substances harmful to humans and the environment. The purpose of this paper is to explain how and why the German technological hazardscape changed after reunification. A cursory analysis might ascribe hazardscape change to the application of strict West German environmental laws and sophisticated environmental protection technologies to the East. This paper contends, however, that it was a political economy rather than an environmental imperative that drove the changes to the hazardscape, and that this continuing conflict may have serious repercussions on the future environmental health of eastern Germany. 相似文献

Most living mammal orders, including our own, started their career during the first 10 million years of the Cenozoic, the
Age of Mammals. The fossil record documents that early Paleogene adaptive radiations of various clades included tiny species
of the size of living shrews. Remains of particularly diminutive limb bones are described from the late Paleocene site of
Walbeck, Sachsen-Anhalt. Discovered in 1939, it has remained the only known Paleocene mammal-bearing locality from Germany.
The remains are referred to the family Adapisoriculidae, which is considered on the basis of the present postcranial evidence
to represent plesiadapiform primates rather than alleged lipotyphlan insectivores as previously proposed. The Walbeck fossils
compete with the Early Eocene species Toliapina vinealis from Europe and Picromomys petersonorum from North America for the status of the smallest known primate, fossil and living. Their estimated body weights are as small
as 10 g. The limb bones show features related to enhanced flexion at the elbow and hip joint, suggesting arboreal habits and
environments such as terminal branches. The diminutive size and tooth morphology suggest feeding on small insects and other
invertebrates. Postcranials are important to assess early radiations, such tiny specimens as the present ones are extremely
