Water quality for 13 wells in El-Salaam, in a new city near Cairo, has been investigated. Those wells were dug specifically to provide water for a company specializing in broiler poultry production. The water was analyzed for the following bacteriological parameters: total bacterial counts (102–104), total coliforms (<1?102), fecal coliforms (<1?102) fecal streptococci (<1?103), aerobic spore formers (102–104) and total counts for Clostridia (<1?103) per 100 mL. Chemical parameters such as pH, sulphate, alkalinity, hardness, and pesticides indicate that the water is unacceptable for poultry production. This study illustrates the need for monitoring and maintaining the integrity of groundwater sources at El-Salaam. 相似文献

The impact of anaerobic digestion and post composting of the digested slurry on total bacterial counts, total coliform, fecal coliform, and fecal streptococci was investigated. Anaerobic digestion removed up to 99% of the bacterial parameters; however, the residual numbers present in the digested slurry were still high. The residuals ranged from 105/g to 1013/g for total bacterial counts, 102/g to 108/g for total coliform, 104/g to 108/g for fecal coliform, and 102/g to 108/g for fecal streptococci. The digested slurry was mixed with soil for one week and then for two months, but the density of bacterial parameters was not reduced. There was an increase in numbers during the two composting steps. 相似文献

The temperature effects on the nitrification process were studied via enrichment and soil perfusion techniques. Enrichment technique yields optimum data at 30 to 37°C wether the inoculum was soil or soil suspension. Activities of nitrifying microorganisms were observed above 40°C and extended to 50°C in the majority of samples. Direct inoculation of enrichment medium with soil showed satisfactory results for nitrifiers growth rather than the use of soil suspension as inoculum for the same medium. The quantitative study for nitrite formation as an intermediate product in the nitrogen cycle was carried out at 44°C. Nitrite formed by an ammonium oxidizing group was accumulated to high levels at the beginning of percolation. This was followed by a sharp drop, and a gradual decrease was observed afterwards. The rate of nitrification was increased to some extent by using an autoclaved soil sample. 相似文献
