DDT—1,1,1-trichloro-2,2-bis(4-chlorophenyl)ethane—is a pesticide that has been widely used to control insects in agriculture. TCP—2,4,6-trichlorophenol—has been used in pesticide formulations as a preservative, disinfectant and antiseptic. Detoxification of DDT and TCP is very difficult due to their stable chemical structure. Here, a mixture of NaBH4 and Devarda alloy was applied for the first time to detoxify DDT and TCP. Results show 94 % dechlorination of DDT at 100 °C and 97 % dechlorination of TCP at 80 °C. The presence of diphenyl ethane suggests the complete dechlorination of DDT. The formation of benzene suggests a strong reduction. The method is efficient, cost-effective and may be applied at the industrial-level. 相似文献

Summary. In a local population of Ostrinia zaguliaevi Mutuura & Munroe (Lepidoptera: Crambidae), extensive variation was found in the blend ratio of three sex pheromone components,
(Z)-9-tetradecenyl acetate (Z9-14:OAc, 10.2-63.8%), (Z)-11-tetradecenyl acetate (Z11-14:OAc, 32.2-86.8%), and (E)-11-tetradecenyl acetate (E11-14:OAc, 2.1-11.9%). The variation was observed over a three-year period (2002-2004). Mother-daughter
regression analyses have shown that although the heritability of the minor component E11-14:OAc was not significant, the heritability
of the proportions of Z9-14:OAc and Z11-14:OAc were substantial (0.5–0.6). In artificial selection experiments, the mean % Z9-14:OAc in the sex pheromone changed significantly within three generations (37% in the control line, 48 and 52% for two
lines selected for increase, and 23 and 30% for two lines selected for decrease). Despite these changes, the amounts of fatty
acyl pheromone precursors, (Z)-9-, (Z)-11- and (E)-11-tetradecenoate, in the pheromone gland were not significantly affected by the selection. Taken together, variation in
the pheromone blend of O. zaguliaevi is likely to be attributable to a few genes involved in the reduction or acetylation of fatty acyl pheromone precursors,
the last two steps in pheromone biosynthesis. 相似文献

Summary. The sex pheromone of Ostrinia orientalis
(Lepidoptera: Crambidae) was analyzed by gas chromatography–electroantennographic detection (GC–EAD), GC–mass spectrometry and a series of bioassays. Three EAD-active
compounds were detected in the female sex pheromone
gland extract, and identified as tetradecyl acetate (14:OAc),
(Z)-11-tetradecenyl acetate (Z11-14:OAc) and (E)-11-tetradecenyl acetate (E11-14:OAc). The titers (ratio) of 14:OAc, Z11-14:OAc and
E11-14:OAc in 3-day-old virgin
females were 0.49 ng (10), 4.86 ng (98) and 0.10 ng (2),
respectively. In a wind-tunnel bioassay, the 98:2 blend of
Z11- and E11-14:OAc, but not Z11-14:OAc alone, elicited
the same male behavioral responses as virgin females and
crude gland extracts. 14:OAc was inactive by itself, and did
not show any synergistic effect on the binary blend.
Field trapping experiments also confirmed the attractiveness
of the binary blend to O. orientalis
males. Based on
these results, we concluded that the sex pheromone of
O. orientalis
is a 98:2 mixture of Z11-14:OAc and
E11-14:OAc. This sex pheromone is very similar to that of the Z-type European corn borer,
O. nubilalis. The present
finding raises the question of whether O. orientalis
, which is indistinguishable from O. nubilalis
based on external morphology,
is a biologically distinct species independent from
O. nubilalis. 相似文献

This article reports high dechlorination of toxic polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) under mild conditions. PCBs are priority
pollutants acting as endocrine disruptors, human carcinogens and environmental estrogens. Previous remediation methods involving
high temperature and pressure have drawbacks such as high cost, de novo dioxins synthesis and difficult recovery of vaporized
PCBs. On the other hand, dechlorination methods using mild conditions show the problem of catalyst deactivation. Here, activated
carbon was used for the first time as catalyst to dechlorinate 2,4,5 trichlorobiphenyl. High dechlorination, of 87%, was achieved
under mild conditions. 2,4,5 trichlorobiphenyl was treated at 40–150°C with calcium hydroxide, sodium hydroxide and sulfur
in mixed water and organic solvents. Dechlorination products were biphenyl, orthohydroxy biphenyls, 2,4 dihydroxy biphenyls
and biphenyl-2-thiol. Dichlorobiphenyl and orthochlorobiphenyls were found in trace quantities. We found that carbon particles
catalysed dechlorination by substitution reactions and suppressed further chlorination. Dechlorination at biphenyl ortho position
was preceded by substitution reaction by hydroxyl and thiol ions. Moreover, in the absence of carbon, dechlorination was lower
and substituted products were not observed. These findings may be applied at industrial scale to remediate PCB-contaminated
waste. 相似文献

Some members of the family Tachinidae (Insecta: Diptera) deposit numerous very small eggs, termed “microtype” eggs, on the food plants of their caterpillar hosts. Parasitization is successful only when the hosts ingest these eggs. To increase the chance of hosts encountering the eggs, microtype tachinid parasitoids have to choose a suitable plant that harbors hosts and lay their eggs near the hosts. In their host location process, semiochemicals emitted by host-infested plants offer the tachinids a reliable cue. We investigated the behavioral responses of two microtype tachinid parasitoids, Pales pavida and Zenillia dolosa, to maize plants infested with their caterpillar host, Mythimna separata, in a wind tunnel. P. pavida females showed a significantly higher rate of landing on caterpillar-infested plants than on mechanically wounded or intact plants, whereas Z. dolosa landed on both the caterpillar-infested and mechanically wounded plants at significantly higher rates than on intact plants. We also examined which part of a caterpillar-infested maize leaf induces oviposition. P. pavida deposited eggs on the margin of the leaf, whereas Z. dolosa preferentially laid eggs around a caterpillar-infested area or a mechanically wounded spot. P. pavida eggs retained their parasitization ability for more than 15?days after they were deposited, whereas the eggs of Z. dolosa could not survive more than 5?days after oviposition. Our results suggest that each tachinid parasitoid employs a different host location strategy to exploit semiochemicals coming from plant–herbivore interaction as cues in order to increase their parasitization success. 相似文献

Dioxins like polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins (PCSDDs), polychlorinated dibenzofurans (PCDFs) and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) are mainly emitted from waste incinerators (WIs) and have become an international research focus because of its serious concerns over the adverse health effects. The detoxification of PCCDs/Fs and PCBs is very difficult because of their stable chemical structure. A significant hydrodechlorination/detoxification of polychlorinated 1-dioxins (PCDDs), polychlorinated dibenzofurans (PCDFs) and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) were achieved in fly ash by using an aqueous mixture of calcium hydroxide and sulfur. Two different fly ashes were studied: originating from municipal waste incinerator (FA1) and industrial waste incinerator (FA2). They were heated with the aqueous mixture at 150 °C for 30 or 60 min with agitation. Higher decomposition (87%) and detoxification (87.7%) of PCDD/Fs and PCBs were achieved at 150 °C with two runs; every run was for 30 min, compared to one run for 60 min. FA2 gave higher decomposition and detoxification as compared to FA1, which might be due to higher metal content that played a catalytic role to decompose and detoxify the PCDDs, PCDFs and PCBs. The decomposition and detoxification of PCDFs in fly ash was higher than PCDDs and was augmented with increasing number of chlorides on aromatic compounds. As the highly significant decomposition and detoxification of higher concentration of PCDD/Fs and PCBs were achieved in 1 hour without additive catalyst and at low temperature of 150 °C, therefore, the developed method is cost effective and most suitable to apply on commercial/industrial level. The detail results of hydrodechlorination/detoxification of PCDD, PCDFs at different conditions are described and its mechanism is discussed. 相似文献

An efficient dechlorination/detroxification method for p-nitrochlorobenzene, p-chloroanisole and 1-chloronaphthalene on municipal waste incinerator fly ash in presence of reducing agents with water/alcohol mixtures was developed. Dechlorination% was higher in water/isopropanol mixture at temperature <100 °C. Metal contents of fly ash played a vital role in enhancing dechlorination at low temperature. Moreover, the fly ash particles provided the surface to accomplish reduction and substitution reactions by adsorbing the chlorinated aromatic compound, hydrogen and hydroxyl ions. The mechanism of dechlorination was envisaged. 相似文献

In the expression of bioaccumulated elemental mercury (Hg 0) toxicity, the first Hg 0 oxidation step is crucial. Therefore, to clarify the mechanism underlying the interactions of sulfhydryl (SH) compounds and Hg 0 in the present study, we analyzed the oxidation of reduced glutathione (GSH) and L-cysteine (Cys) in the presence of Hg 0 in aqueous solution by cyclic voltammetry (CV). Production of Hg2+ in the reaction mixture was found to increase along with a decrease in free SH residues. CV showed that the oxidation of Cys increased after a 4-h incubation in the presence of Hg(0), but the oxidation of Cys after a 24-h incubation was suppressed. Conversely, GSH oxidation increased with incubation time in the absence of Hg(0). In the presence of Hg(0), the oxidation of GSH was suppressed. The different reactivities of Cys and GSH with Hg(0) may arise from differences in their oxidation/reduction potentials and pH. The important SH compound interactions with Hg(0) oxidation were as follows: (i) oxidation of Hg(0) to form either mercurous ion (Hg+) or mercuric ion (Hg2+) which both form stable complexes in aqueous solution as Hg I (RS) or Hg II(RS)2; (ii) catalyzed oxidation of SH compounds in the presence of Hg 0; and (iii) suppression of the oxidation of SH compounds due to the reduced concentration of free SH compounds through the binding of SH compounds with Hg+ or Hg2+ The present results demonstrate the chemical reaction processes by which Hg 0 dissolves in aqueous solution in the presence of SH compounds, and contribute to our understanding of SH compounds in non-enzymatic Hg 0 oxidation in vivo. 相似文献

A supernatant solution, obtained after immobilization of heavy metals involved in fly ashes by a solution of sulfur and calcium hydroxide, was re-used for immobilization of heavy metals and decomposition of asbestos in construction materials. Asbestos was decomposed to more than 99.9 % by mixing it with the supernatant in a ball mill at room temperature. The decomposition of asbestos was confirmed by X-ray diffraction (XRD), a phase contrast microscope after staining the asbestos with solutions of different diffractive indexes and a scanning electron microscope. XRD indicated complete disappearance of specific main peaks of asbestos: chrysotile, crocidolite, amosite and tremolite. Heavy metals such as chromium(VI) and lead(II) in fly ashes were completely immobilized by the supernatant. It is the first time that a solution obtained after the treatment of wasted fly ash is recycled for decomposition of hazardous waste materials such as asbestos. 相似文献
