The known advantages of solid-phase microextraction as a simple, one-step, rapid and solvent free extraction technique are exploited to study the photodegradation kinetics of polychlorinated biphenyls "on-fibre". The obtained results show the possibilities of this new approach not only to monitor the photolysis pathways of such compounds but to determine the photoproducts produced at different irradiation times and/or wavelengths. Photoproducts of PCB decomposition were less chlorinated biphenyls, among them some coplanar congeners have been found, which is important from a toxicological point of view.  相似文献

A new strategy for preparing composite samples of special interest and applicability in environmental screening studies is presented. The use of supersaturated experimental design matrices to conduct the sample composition of water sample specimens in screening studies is demonstrated. In contrast to well known conventional sample composition, this strategic approach provides analytical objects allowing the accurate prediction of analyte concentration levels in the original individual sample specimens while fixing the number of experiments to be carried out down to the very number of sample specimens. This will be of special importance when dealing with analytes that require complicated, labour intensive and expensive analytical processes. To reach this goal, two main conditions must be fulfilled. The first one is the sparsity effect (Pareto principle) which holds for the specimens in the sampling campaign. This means that the number of really anomalous or contaminated specimens, as compared to the total number of specimens to be analysed, is low. In environmental screening studies, frequently this situation can be reasonably assumed. The second condition is to have an effective manner to develop and solve the experimental designs required to build-up the composite samples. The challenging problem of screening PCBs in water samples has been tackled to show the usefulness of this strategic approach by combining chemometrically assisted sample composition and rapid analysis using solid-phase microextraction of the composite samples.  相似文献

A method based on ultrasound-assisted emulsification-microextraction (USAEME) and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) has been developed for the analysis of regulated fragrance allergens in water. Extraction conditions such as the type of solvent, extraction temperature, irradiation time, and salting-out effect were optimized using a multivariate approach. Compounds were extracted during 2 min in an acoustically emulsified media formed by 100 μL chloroform and 10 mL sample. The USAEME process provided an efficient and exhaustive extraction (enrichment factor ~100) and, after centrifugation, the extract was ready for GC analysis. Validation was performed using spiked ultrapure water as well as other most complex matrices such as sewage water. Recoveries between 75% and 110% were generally obtained, and precision was characterized by RSD values <10% in most cases. The limits of detection (LODs) were at the sub-nanogram per millilitre level. The proposed procedure was applied to the determination of allergens in several real samples including tap water, baby bathwater, recreational place water, public washing place water, and sewage water. The presence of some of the target compounds was confirmed in all the samples excluding tap water, demonstrating the ubiquity of this group of cosmetic and personal care products ingredients.  相似文献

In this work the photochemical behaviour of a technical mixture of polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) (BDE-47, BDE-99, BDE-100, BDE-153 and BDE-154) has been studied. The mixture of BDEs was extracted from aqueous solutions using SPME fibers that were subsequently exposed to different UV irradiation times, procedure so-called Photo-SPME. PBDEs photochemical studies in such medium have been accomplished for the first time. Twenty one different photoproducts, all of them generated by successive bromine atoms losses, have been identified, being their photoformation-photodegradation curves easily determined by the Photo-SPME technique.  相似文献

Photo solid-phase microextraction (photo-SPME) is applied for the first time to study the photochemical behavior of an emerging pollutant, triclosan, in real contaminated wastewater samples using a solar simulator. In this study, water samples are extracted by SPME and then, the fiber coating is irradiated for a selected time. This on-fiber procedure, so-called photo-SPME, followed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry makes it possible to study photodegradation kinetics and the generation of byproducts. Several photoproducts were identified in the real samples including the 2,8-dichlorodibenzo-p-dioxin, dichlorophenols and a compound tentatively identified as other DCDD congener or a dichlorohydroxydibenzofuran. Accordingly, it was possible to postulate main photodegradation mechanisms. Photo-SPME demonstrated slower kinetics in wastewater than in spiked ultrapure water probably due to the presence of dissolved organic matter. This technique was extensively compared with conventional aqueous photodegradation showing high similarity. The influence of pH on the triclosan photolysis and on the triclosan-dioxin conversion was also investigated in wastewater. Photodegradation of triclosan and formation of 2,8-DCDD occurred independently of sample pH. This study represents an advance in the use of photo-SPME to understand the photochemical fate of environmental organic pollutants and demonstrates its clear advantages with real samples.  相似文献

Summary Some of the environmental and developmental activities assisted by Britain's Programme of Overseas Aid are outlined. In particular, the article draws attention to a new booklet published by the Overseas Development Administration to mark the European Year of the Environment which, in the Minister's words, shows how through British aid, programme improvements are possible by a combination of sound scientific research and a sensitivity to people's needs.Mr Christopher Patten, Member of Parliament for Bath, is the UK's current Minister for Overseas Development. He also serves as Minister of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs. The Minister may be contacted through the offices of the Overseas Development Administration, Eland House, Stag Place, London SW1E 5DH, UK.  相似文献
