Using histological techniques, changes in histomorphological characteristics of the liver were revealed in two fish species from lakes with different levels of anthropogenic impact. The most significant changes in the liver of roach from Kostomukshskoe Lake (used as a tailing dump of the Kostomuksha Mining and Ore-processing Plant) included initial stages of parenchymal protein dystrophy and, to a lesser extent, fatty dystrophy; in pike, fatty liver dystrophy prevailed. Compared to roach, pike proved to be more sensitive to ecological conditions in Kostomukshskoe lake, including increased water mineralization. In both fish species from Koivas Lake (20 km from the pollution source), only the initial stages of local dystrophic changes could be detected. The fish from clean Kamennoe Lake (located in a protected area) had no pathological changes in the liver. 相似文献

A comparative study on the lipid composition of the liver and muscles has been performed in daubed shanny caught in summer
(July) in Arctic waters at three different sites (biotopes) along the north-western coast of Spitsbergen. In marine organisms
living at high latitudes, lipids play an especially important role, primarily as reserve substances and as a factor influencing
adaptation to severe environmental conditions. Since the ecology of daubed shanny is poorly known, the data obtained may be
considered novel. 相似文献

Bivalves have a known ability to accumulate different contaminants from ambient water and can therefore serve as bioindicators. The paper analyses certain biochemical and physiological parameters of blue mussels in response to varying oil product concentrations. The heart rate (HR) of blue mussels from the sublittoral zone exposed to different levels of oil products was investigated in a long-term experiment using non-invasive monitoring. A sharp rise in HR was observed at oil concentrations of 8.0 and 38.0 mg/l. A decreasing in mussel HR under the effect of lower concentrations (0.4 and 1.9 mg/l) was significant on the fourth day. Strong fluctuations of the cardiac activity were noted under all concentrations. After 6 days of oil treatment, tissues of the mussels were sampled to determine the total lipid composition. Low concentrations of oil products produced no reliable changes in the lipid composition whereas high concentrations induced significant changes in the ratio of lipid components (cholesterol and phospholipids). 相似文献

The patterns of growth and development have been studied in L. maculatus early life stages of different ecological groups (pelagic and demersal) from Kongsfjorden and Billefjorden (the northwestern coast of West Spitsbergen). It has been found that the growth rate of larvae markedly increases by age 2+ (stage L2), which is due to their transition to exogenous feeding. Consideration is given to changes in the length and condition of the lipid sac (a provisory organ) in the period of its formation, growth, and resorption in the course of ontogeny. The lipid sac reaches the maximum size at stage L4* and is resorbed at stage L5. Analysis of individual variation in the size and body weight of fish early life stages provides the possibility to evaluate the adaptation capacity of a species under specific conditions of the Arctic. 相似文献

The dynamics of lipid and fatty acid composition of the muscles (flesh) and lipid sac in L. maculatus early life stages of different age collected in Kongsfjorden (Svalbard, Norway), in winter, during the polar night was studied. We showed that the total lipid content in the muscles increases on account of energetic triacylglycerols derived from the lipid sac, which is resorbed in juveniles as they switch to a demersal mode of life. The fatty acid spectrum directly reflects age-dependent and seasonal features of L. maculatus early life stages. The results of the study elucidate the specific role of lipids and fatty acids in the ecological and biochemical mechanisms related to ontogenic development of fish from the family Stichaeidae, particularly arctic-boreal L. maculatus, which assumed to become increasingly frequent in the Spitsbergen water area. They are important for understanding the ability of organisms to maintain and preserve the functional stability of ecosystems as a whole, especially under conditions of climate change in the Arctic. 相似文献
