| Abstract: | The required capacity of warehouses for use in humanitarian emergencies is very often overestimated. This paper reviews some of the principal factors affecting warehouse capacity for emergency humanitarian operations in developing countries. The growing difference between modern commercial warehousing practice and the approach typically used in humanitarian emergencies is highlighted. The principal constraints on capacity are identified and discussed. A simple method for estimating the storage capacity of warehouses for emergency operations is then presented. |
