| Abstract: | The research progress on the quality assessment of sediments contaminated by polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) was reviewed in this paper. The characteristics, distribution, environmental behavior and toxicity of PCBs were simply evaluated. Advances on the research of assessment methods of the sediment and sediment quality criteria were also discussed in details. Finally, present status and existing problems of the quality assessment of sediments contaminated by hydrophobic organic compounds, including polychlorinated biphenyls, were summarized emphatically in the review. |
