Discussions on Toxicants and Their Elimination in Anaerobic Treatment of pulp and paper Mill Effluents

Interest in applying anaerobic processes to treat pulp and paper mill effluents has increased.This paper mainly discusses toxicants which will inhibite anaerobic processes in the treatment of pulp and paper mill wastewaters and their removal methods.The toxicants discussed includes inorganic sulfur compounds(sulfate,sulfite and sulfide),oxidants including hydrogen peroxide,volatile organic acids and heavy metals,wood extractives including resin acids and organic additives such as DTPA,a strong chelating agent.
