The Life-cycle Analysis of Wastewater Treatment Works

The environmental impact of wastewater treatment works could be evaluated using the technique of LCA. Subject to satisfactory wastewater treatment and sludge disposal, the LCA technique identified additional impacts of importance, which had implications for energy management, works design,supplier manaement and general environmental policy. The wastewater treatment works could be evaluated using the LCA technique to identify and quantify material use, energy use and environmental releases during construction, operation and demolition. LCA was found to provide a useful perspective on environmental policy of two wastewater treatment works and had value as a decision-making aid, both comparative analysis and identification of improvements to activities.
