Review of comprehensive benefit appraisal and soil health for ecological agriculture system and prospects for the application of ecological-economic model

Attention has been focused on the development of ecological agriculture in China and its comprehensive benefit appraisal systems. Traditional agriculture cannot meet the demands of a growing population and current agricultural practice has also been posing environmental problems and causes agricultural production hazard in the future. Although as a direction for the development of sustainable agriculture, theories of ecological agriculture has matured, and is widely acknowledged and practiced, researches on the comprehensive benefit appraisal system and optimized model of ecological agriculture are still at the beginning stage, which has considerably restricted the popularization and extension of ecological agriculture. It is difficult to appraise its ecological benefit because of the complexity and diversity of the ecosystem. This article aims at analyzing and discussing measurements of comprehensive benefit appraisal of ecological agriculture system, based on both the Chinese and overseas experience. Considering the characteristics and important role of land health evaluation in appraising sustainable agricultural development, the method of calculating ecological benefit can be simplified and its relevance in the comprehensive benefit strengthened. The advantages and prospects of ecological-economic integration model research for setting up optimized ecological agriculture system was also discussed.
