Abstract:
Soil quality plays a deciding role in the quality of agricultural products and the sustainable development of agricultural production.However,soil degradation has become one of the limiting factors of agricultural production.Research has shown that soil conditioner application can help to slow down soil degradation.The soil conditioner used in this study is composed of earthworm cast,straw mushroom residue,vermiculite,sodium molybdate(50 g·kg-1),and boric acid(13.3 g·kg-1),and the ratio between the earthworm cast,straw mushroom residue,and vermiculite was 6:3:1.To investigate the effects of the conditioner on soil physico-chemical properties and fertility and its stimulating effects on boron and molybdenum uptake and growth of eggplant,five treatments of different application levels of the conditioner were set up:CK(0 kg·m-2),QY-T1(0.75 kg·m-2),QY-T2(1.12 kg·m-2),QY-T3(1.5 kg·m-2),and QY-T4(2.25 kg·m-2).The results showed that conditioner application raised soil temperature.The highest soil temperature at the 5 cm depth recorded at 9 AM was in QY-T4,while that at the 10 cm depth recorded at 2 PM was in QY-T3.Soil bulk density decreased significantly to below 1.50 g·cm–3 with increasing application level of the conditioner.Soil pH increased from 4.93 in CK to 5.57 in QY-T4.Compared with CK,microbial biomass carbon was 29.9%,36.1%,47.6%,and 52.2%higher and organic matter was 10.8%,11.7%,12.5%,and 7.0%higher in QY-T1,QY-T2,QY-T3,and QY-T4,respectively.Soil available boron was 0.35,0.36,and 0.42 mg·kg-1in QY-T2,QY-T3,and QY-T4,respectively.Soil available molybdenum increased and then decreased with increasing application level of the conditioner,being 0.107,0.140,0.101,and 0.092 mg·kg-1in QY-T1,QY-T2,QY-T3,and QY-T4,respectively.Both boron and molybdenum contents of eggplant in QY-T1,QY-T2,QY-T3,and QY-T4 were significantly higher(P<0.01)than those in CK and increased with increasing application level of the conditioner.Compared with CK,eggplant yield was 29%,36%,190%,and 66%higher,eggplant fruit number was 25%,28%,155%,and 66%higher,eggplant height at day 59 was 23%,1.4%,23%,and 16%higher,and leaf area at day 59 was 6.8%,11%,9.3%,and 7.4%higher in QY-T1,QY-T2,QY-T3,and QY-T4,respectively.However,leaf number was not significantly different between the treatments.Therefore,an application level of 1.5×104kg·hm-2as that in QY-T3 was recommended for the conditioner.This study was aimed to provide a basis for the application of soil conditioners to improve degraded soils.
