Abstract:The development and advances on the study of activated sludge models (ASM) are briefly reviewed and discussed from the traditional ones based on Monod equation to the very recent dynamic models such as ASM1, ASM2 and ASM3. The characteristic of the models is compared with each other and the developments of activated sludge process software, which has been commercially applied, are further summarized. Based on the discussion, future investigation and applications of the activated sludge models and process software are presented.
