Abstract:The concentrating characteristics for Cd, Cu and Zn of the edible parts of 12 vegetables grown on heavily metal-polluted soils in Fujian province was investigated. The average concentrating coefficients of the vegetables for Cd, Cu and Zn were 0.017, 0.116 and 0.014, respectively. The difference between the highest and the lowest Cd concentrating coefficients was 315 times, much higher than those for Cu and Zn. Wild rice stem, cowpea and lotus had the lowest concentrating coefficients for Cd, which can be chosen for planting on Cd-polluted soil. Leaf mustard, taro, water spinach should not be grown on Cd-polluted soil because they showed a strong ability to uptake Cd from soil.
Keywords:vegetable  Cadmium   copper  zinc  concentrating coefficient
