Abstract:An anaerobic contact reactor was used for the pretreatment of synthetic wastewater containing high-concentration acrylic acid (AA). After sludge acclimation of the reactor, the removal rate of AA was above 95% with effluent acrylic acid less than 160 mg/L and COD removal rate of 20%~40%, under the following conditions: hydraulic retention time of 12 h, influent concentration of 1 000~3 000 mg AA/L, volumetric load of 2~6 kg AA/(m3·d), sludge load of 0.67~2.00 kg AA/(kg VSS·d). The reactor can transform each 4 mol acrylic acid into 1 mol acetic acid and 1.7 mol propionic acid, and thereby achieve the detoxification of acrylic acid, which can faciliate the following methane production.
