Abstract:A microbial membrane was made by immobilized cells inside a double-layeredmembrane. The cells could not be washed away,which owed a lot to a special process. BODmicrobial sensor consists of microbial membrane and an oxygen electrode. By using the sensor,the BOD of a sample solution can be measured within 6 minutes. The relationship between electric current decrease and BOD is linear in the range of 2-50mg/L. When it wasused to measure the BOD of the environmental standard samples,the relative standard deviation was about 3. 8% with the mean error about- 1. 6 %. The output of the sensor is constantfor over 2 months,and it was well interrelated to what determined by using conventionalBOD5 analysis method.
