长江三角洲耕地资源态势与保护对策

SITUATION OF CULTIVATED LAND AND ITS CONSERVATION STRATEGIES IN THE CHANGJIANG DELTA

The Changjiang River delta is the most developed area in eastern China, and takes an important economic position in China. With the economic growth, the region has faced serious resource and environmental problems which are threatening sustainable development. Especially the cultivated land has decreased rapidly since 1992, meanwhile the reserve land resource for agriculture is very limited, resulting in a more and more intense status between population and land, or between population and food. To protect the cultivated land effectively in the area, some strategies are suggested. Firstly, the essential farming land must be protected, so the land use for non-agriculture purpose must be under rigid control. Secondly, the economic mechanism for farming land protection shoud be established soon. Furthermore, the different sources for investment in land, especially in reclamation of soil should be encouraged.
