The Technology of Questionnaire Design in the Contingent Valuation Method

The contingent valuation method (CVM),and approach for economic valuation of environment,is now widely used by western countries.Since CVM can be applied to a very wide range and it can hope to capture the full values associated with environmental goods,its advantages are obvious.On the other hand,because of the bias,CVM needs to be studied and designed carefully,especially on the issue of questionnaires.This paper is mainly focused on the technology of how to design a good questionnaire,including the environmental goods,the payment vehicle,the context of valuation and the pretest.The ultimate goal of adopting suitable technology in questionnaire design is to reduce the bias and improve the validity of the results.
