Progress on Quick Estimation of Fertilizer Value of Animal Manure

Rapid and timely information on manure nutrient content offers potential benefits in reducing environment contamination from over-use nutrients and better matching of manure nutrient with fertilizer. Three rapid methods were reviewed to predict manure nutrient content, including hydrometer, conductivity meter and near infrared reflectance spectroscopy. The hydrometer is an indirect method of estimating total nitrogen and phosphorus, while conductivity meter can estimate ammonia nitrogen and total potassium. Near infrared reflectance spectroscopy is being available for testing total nitrogen, ammonia nitrogen, nitrate nitrogen and moisture with high precision.
