Visual Detection of Anions in Water Environment by Lanthanide Complexes

Abstract:The development of rapid and convenient detection technology for anions in water environment is of great significance for assessing water environmental pollution in watersheds and proposing relevant watershed governance countermeasures.The paper proposed to use lanthanide metal ion Eu3+ as the coordination metal ion,and to synthesize the lanthanide complex by hydrothermal method with 2,6 dipicolinic acid.Then the synthesis material is applied to the qualitative and quantitative analysis of nine common anions in water environment.The results show that the prepared europium dicarboxylateEu(DPA)3]has good dispersibility in wa?ter.Under the excitation wavelength of 280 nm,the Eu(DPA)3 aqueous solution can be observed with the naked eye with a strong characteristic red light under an ultraviolet lamp,and thus visual detection of anions can be realized.The qualitative test results show that different anions quench the fluorescence of Eu(DPA)3 aqueous solution differently.It was found that Eu(DPA)3 has high sensitivity and selectivity for detection of Cr2O72-.The quantitative test results show that the high concentration of Cr2O72-ions can completely quench the fluorescence of Eu(DPA)3.In the low concentration range,the fluorescence intensity has a good linear rela?tionship with the concentration(R2=0.9858).This research shows that lanthanide complexes has good application prospects for the qualitative and quantitative detection of specific anions in water environments.In the future,a smart phone fluorescence sensor APP can be developed for instant detection of anions in water environments.The fluorescence sensor APP signal reader can digitize the intensity of red fluorescence to realize visual detection.
