Spatial and Temporal Evolution of Habitat Quality in the Three Gorges Reservoir Area(Chongqing Section)Based on InVEST Model

Abstract:In order to identify specific areas where the habitat quality is good or bad,and reveal the characteristics of the temporal and spatial evolution of habitat quality under land use changes,a study on habitat quality was carried out in the Three Gorges Res?ervoir area(Chongqing section),which is an integration of large rural and large reservoir areas.Based on the land use data of 2000,2010 and 2020,a quantitative assessment on the habitat quality of the area was carried out with InVEST model,and specific areas of habitat quality deterioration were indentified with transition matrix method.The results show that:1)from 2000 to 2020,the dom?inant land types in the Three Gorges Reservoir area(Chongqing section)are forest land and cultivated land,which account for more than 86%of the total area and are distributed in a concentrated and contiguous manner;The dynamics all show the characteristics of“four increases and two drops”,construction land has shown explosive growth,and urban expansion is relatively rapid;there are varying degrees of conversion among different regions.2)From 2000 to 2020,the overall habitat quality index of the Three Gorges Reservoir area(Chongqing section)was relatively good.The high-values were concentrated in the northern mountainous ar?eas of the reservoir region,and the low-values were distributed in the urban areas of the reservoir region,but the overall habitat quality showed a trend of decline.which is distributed and diffused radially with cities and towns as the core.3)From 2000 to 2020,the habitat quality level of the Three Gorges Reservoir area(Chongqing section)are mainly excellent grades,better grades or above are distributed on forest land and cultivated land in the reservoir area,and the relatively poor and poor grades are concentrat?ed on construction land.4)In the past 20 years,the habitat quality level of the Three Gorges Reservoir area(Chongqing section)has remained unchanged.The improved area was larger,while the deterorated area was smaller in the early period than in the later times.Grade deterioration mainly occurs in the transformation from various land types into construction land and grade improve?ment are manifested in the transformation from various land types into forest land and cultivated land.This study helps to compre?hensively understand the evolution of habitat quality in the Three Gorges Reservoir area and provides support for the development of a scientific strategy for habitat quality protection.
