Abstract:
The paper summarizes the properties of humic substances, and discusses the combining characteristics with organic pollutants including adsorption organic pollutants by hydrogen bonds and hydrophobic interactions, solvability enhancement of organic pollutants in the aqueous matrix, evaporation decrease, strength of photo-degradation rate, change of bioavailability and effect on toxicity of organic pollutants etc.Furthermore, the application of humic substances for removing the organic pollutants from water and soil are introduced, humic substances has the higher cleanse effect to coloration contamination, and HA is thought to accelerate the degradation of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons(PAHs) by enhancing PAH solubility and increasing the PAH bioavailability to microorganisms, humic substances also can increase solubilization of PCBs and to a different accessibility of PCBs by the specialized bacteria. At the last the potential research tendency of humic substances in the field of environmental protection is indicated.
Keywords:humic substances  organic pollutant  soil  purification mechanisms
