| Abstract: | Yangcheng Lake is the third biggest fresh water in Taihu plain and the important water source in Suzhou. The phytoplankton investigation was carried out three times in Yangcheng Lake from March to October in 2004. 211 species of 83 genera of 8 phyla of phytoplankton had been identified, with 153 species of 71 genera in the west lake, 140 species of 68 genera in the central lake, and 151 species of 74 genera in the east lake. The water quality was assessed by the biological diversity index of phytoplankton. The water quality in Yangcheng Lake was regarded as severe pollution and pollution in the west lake was even more serious than in the east lake. |
