Water security assessment in Haihe River Basin using principal component analysis based on Kendall τ

Abstract:Kendall τ has reasonable theoretic background than Pearson correlation. It can be applied more widely in all aspects. Instead of using widely adopted Pearson correlation or its extensions in a large number of principal component analysis (PCA) instances, we introduce the Kendall τ into the PCA method. PCA is a well-known statistical data analysis algorithm and is aimed to extract feature from high-dimensional data. It is designed to reduce the number of variables to a small number of indices while attempting to preserve the relationships present in the original data. This paper uses PCA based on Kendall τ in water security assessment of Haihe River Basin.
