Abstract:The concentration of alkylmercury in natural water was determined by high performance liquid chromatography with on-line UV irradiation, generation of hydrides and cold vapor and atomic fluorescence detection(HPLC-UV-CV/HG-AFS). A comparison was made between two pretreatment methods-preconcentration by sulphydryl cotton fibre and liquid-liquid extraction. A simple, high selectivity and sensitive method was proposed to determine hence alkylmercury in natural water through the optimum of analytical condition. The detection limit(3S/N) for methylmercury was 0.3 and 0.6ng/L for ethylmercury in 1L water. Precision was tested by analyzing two different concentration of standard samples for 6 determinations, the relative standard deviation (RSD) of methylmercury and ethylmercury found was in the range of 2.8%~4.6%.
