| Abstract: | The present paper summarizes the major environmental accidents in China during the period from September to December in the year 2002. These accidents are classified into five categories (Tables 1~5), i.e. dust storm, pollution accidents, landslide and mud-rock flow, insect pests as well as natural calamities. Total 3, 10, 12, 2, and 30 major events are reported with their detailed statistics on the casualty, places, and the nature of the accidents respectively. Causes are also listed which actually led to the 57 events. In addition, discussions are also extended at the end of the paper, on the meteorological disaster (including drought, typhoon, sandstorm, overheat, flood, hail, snow and freeze disasters), oceanic disasters on the seas, as well as the geological ones. |
