| Abstract: | The present paper summarizes the major environmental accidents in China during the period from May to August in the year 2002. These accidents are classified into five categories (Tables 1~5), i.e. dust storm, pollution accidents, landslide and mud rock flow, insect pests as well as natural calamities. Total 3, 22, 33, 13, and 68 major events are reported with their detailed statistics on the casualty, places, and the nature of the accidents respectively. Causes are also listed which actually led to the 139 events. In addition, discussions are also extended at the end of the paper, on the natural disaster. The losses and the characteristics of the disaster are presented and discussed. |
